Most of the equipments are kept in nurse station at ward to cope with unexpected medical trouble. The number of the equipments are over 40 at large scaled medical institution like a university hospital. The missed equipments are danger because the equipments can not be maintained periodically. Location of the equipments have to be discovered to maintain safety level of patient environment. Authors propose new system to detect the equipments in hospital by passive UHF RFID tag. In this paper, fundamental characteristics of the system are estimated.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129167684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two different planar UWB antennas (loop and dipole) are used for the examinations. First, the antenna performance in free space (FS) is shown. Then, the effect of the antenna-body distance on the antenna operation is analysed in the terms of the matching, i.e., reflection coefficient S11. Measurements are carried out in the proximity of a real human body while the simulations are run by using the whole body model having a frequency-dependent behaviour. Observations are concluded to commensurate with the antenna field regions and the size of antenna's reactive near-field was satisfied to be an important factor in the evaluation of an acceptable on-body operation. No significant differences between different antennas were observed through investigations. Both antennas perform satisfactory when the distance is high enough. The results of this study are helpful to engineers and designers evaluating antennas for the use in UWB wireless body area network (WBAN) applications.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123956263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However in the conventional systems, low usability and interactivity of the system became key problems to support medication. In this research, we developed a patients-pharmacists interactive communication system and investigated it's benefit through a 2-month field trial. We carried out the trial for thirty-five outpatients plus their family, and four pharmacists in a dispensing pharmacy in Yokohama. The result showed high effectiveness of the proposed user-interface to the medication compliance and adherence.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121829069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, two kinds of hemispherical antennas, one has a helical structure and the other has a loop structure, were designed. The hemispherical antennas match for the shape of capsule endoscopes. The reflection coefficient S11 and the directivity of the hemispherical antennas in UWB low-band were investigated in detail. Next, a simplified planar design of the hemispherical loop antenna was proposed for being easy to fabricate. The characteristic of the planar loop antenna in UWB low-band was investigated by both numerical simulation and experiment. In addition to the S11, the path loss of the fabricated planar loop antenna was also measured in a fluid phantom simulating a human body tissue, with a planar unbalance dipole antenna as the receiving antenna. The measured path loss was compared with the simulated result, and good agreement was confirmed between them.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116613643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Capsule endoscopes help to examine hard-to-reach parts of the gastrointestinal tract with significantly less discomfort for the patient than traditional endoscopic methods based on the insertion of flexible tubes. A capsule endoscope is an electronic device the size and shape of a pill that is swallowed and transmits wirelessly video of the gastrointestinal tract with the aid of an integrated tiny camera and a light source. A number of commercial capsule endoscopes that operate in narrowband radio channels are already available. Nevertheless, the quality of their transmitted video can be significantly enhanced through the use of an ultra wideband radio link, which enables high data rate transmission. However, multiple design constraints make the use of ultra wideband challenging for this application, particularly the large attenuation of radio signals propagating through living tissues in frequencies above 1000 MHz. Lower frequencies would yield a larger size of the ultra wideband antenna, which is impractical for integration into an ingestible device. Hence, we propose a methodology for the computation of the appropriate transmission frequency band for the ultra wideband capsule endoscope. Our methodology takes into account two design constraints, namely attenuation caused by wave propagation through human tissues and the antenna size.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134061069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main advantages of FIT-based channel modelling is that channel characteristics for a specific environment can be obtained simply by drawing the environment on the software and selecting proper parameters for simulations. FIT-simulators face the same problem as the other corresponding simulators: large memory and computational capacity is required in complex environments. However, these requirements can be reduced significantly especially by using FIT with a careful planning of meshing for the simulation model and by proper selection for the critical parameters. The first aim of this paper is to depict and visualize how FIT-simulations should be conducted in complex scenarios taken into account the meshing, accuracy of simulation results, complexity, and simulation time. Further, this paper shows how density of meshing influences remarkably on the simulated channel characteristics in time domain, whereas in frequency domain sparser mesh is sufficient to obtain realistic results. Finally, the aim is to verify that FIT is valid in complex environments by comparing the Ultra Wideband (UWB) channel characteristics obtained by FIT-simulations and channel measurements.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116081002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to find unique propagation characteristics which can be used as fingerprints for personal authentication. The experiment results obtained demonstrate that the distribution of the fading coefficients of the intra-body channels, as well as the power frequency spectra exhibit distinguishable features which can be used to authenticate person's identity. The measurements also illustrate that by using the reference fingerprints in terms of power frequency spectra, the correct identification probability can be maintained at the level above 98% in a short time. Furthermore, it is discovered that the validity of reference fingerprints is more sensitive to the clothes that a person wears than to the displacement of scatterers in the environments and slight changes of the person's posture.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116209845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data transmission of 170 mm distance in a human hand was accomplished to show the possibility of the data transmission from the wrist to the fingertips in an adult hand. The frequency bandwidth for data transmission was restricted by the effect of strong scattering inside body tissues. In experiments using a human hand, the bandwidth was measured to be 2.80 GHz. The feasibility of BAN using diffusely scattered light in the body was verified through these analyses.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122370020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, in this paper, we develop a simple but effective virtual MIMO (VMIMO) based cooperative diversity scheme for a single antenna transmitter being aided by an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper where performance of VMIMO is evaluated in IR-UWB based WBAN systems. The theoretical analysis reveals that VMIMO not only offers a full spatial diversity, but also can collect the multipath diversity contained in the dense WBAN channels. Preliminary simulation results show that VMIMO can provide a considerable improvement on bit error rate (BER) performance compared with the single-input single-output (SISO) WBAN systems.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116780140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modelling is based on the static frequency domain measurements in an anechoic chamber. The studies are done for several on-body radio channels and with two different UWB antennas (dipole and double loop) for the frequency range of 2-8 GHz. A linear least squares (LS) polynomial data fitting is applied to the post processed measurement data resulting parameters for a path loss model. It is shown that the loop antenna outperforms the dipole antenna in respect to the slope of the attenuation. However, the path loss at the reference distance is higher for the loop. It is also shown that the signal propagation delay in the antenna structures causes error in distance measurement and unless the error is compensated significant differences in the parameters of the path loss model may occur in a WBAN case. Finally, it is observed that by using energy detection notable benefit can be obtained if all propagation paths are considered instead of the first arriving path.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132746310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
