A real-time portable emotion detection system will aid such children to interact with the external world easily by them to understand facial emotions during their face to face communication. In this paper we propose a portable low complexity emotion detector using principal component analysis. The Eigen values are obtained using power-deflation iteration method and the proposed architecture optimizes the calculation by using only the required number of selective Eigen values called as Eigen range rather than finding all the Eigen values and vectors. The proposed emotion recognizer architecture is implemented on Virtex 7 XC7VX330T FFG1761-3 FPGA. We achieved 82.3 % detection accuracy for a wordlength of 8 bits.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131857496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is difficult to locate early stage small tumors during the intraoperative period. A part of authors has already proposed an RFID-based tumor location system, which implanted miniature RFID tags in the vicinity of the target tumor [2]. The operator search for the RFID tag using the sensor antenna. Although the proposed method can find the tag location exactly, it requires a skilled operator. In order to simplify the location procedure. The proposed particle filter assisted RFID tag location system is capable of identifying the tag location with simple motion of the sensor antenna. Computer simulation result shows that the proposed method can provide the precise estimate of the location of the tag.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114115788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technology is noninvasive compared to other methods that are traditionally adopted in the examination of GI track. From the physicians' point of view, the WCE is a favorable approach because of its efficiency and accuracy. In this paper, a new discriminant mechanism of bleeding regions is proposed based on the use of Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. Different from the traditional SVM approach, in the proposed method single pixels are not used for training and testing data, however a cluster of pixels are used. This approach aims to eliminate some very small judged bleeding areas which in fact are not. The reported results demonstrate that the accuracy of the proposed method is significantly increased in comparison with traditional approaches. In addition, another improved method based on the square comparison is also proposed, and this has increased the gain.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130378105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A wearable channel sounding system using commercial off-the-shelf Zigbee radios capable of continuous, prolonged and synchronized measurement has been developed. The measured channels were statistically analyzed to identify the potential cooperator nodes for two hop relaying in a star topology WBAN. This will be useful in designing relaying and cooperative communication schemes for improving the reliability of a WBAN under various channel fading conditions. Significant performance gain for two hop link, with the selected cooperator node, over the direct link in terms of outage rate is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128670102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The feature point of the proposed system is to adopt laser projection with consideration for use outdoor. Because the laser projection shows the arrow, which indicates a direction, all a user needs to do is to follow it intuitively. The goal of this study is to realise a tele-guidance system, which provides easy understanding for elderly users with mild dementia, with laser projection. The whole system including this proposed system aims to make preparations for a super-graying society by connecting elderly people and caregivers effectively via ubiquitous network. As a first step, a prototype system was developed and a user test was conducted with elderly participants. In the result, some technical problems and visibility problems on the projected arrow were found.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130865086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reflections from a human body are detected from the UWB pulse response. In indoor environments, reflected waves from the human body must be separated and extracted from the other reflected waves. In this research, human body reflected waves are extracted using the impulse response difference between consecutive snapshots without using pre-measured response characteristics for the room. When six antennas are used in a room of 5 m2, the body position is localized with an RMS error of 20 cm or less.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123115835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focused on the inclination of body posture, assuming that Kinect is used for instant posturography in the test of balance. Subjects were asked to participate in several balance tests and the positions of motion-capture markers on subjects were recorded simultaneously with Kinect body-tracking measurements. After calibrating coordinates and compensating for temporal delay between the two sensor systems using a hybrid marker, the correspondence between the body-part locations of Kinect and those of motion capture was modeled by a linear combination model of neighboring markers with optimal parameters, which were estimated according to the criterion of trajectory minimization. The experiment for six healthy adults showed that our method can track body motion at the accuracy required for standard balance tests.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132443379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modelling of wearable antennas in BANs has been separated into antennas in the vicinity of the body (full wave simulations), including body dynamics (motion capture), and an indoor environment (clusters of scatterers). An anechoic and indoor scenarios are simulated, for a walking body, and for 3 on-body antenna placements (i.e., Arm, Head and Torso). The comparison of a path loss between simulated results and real-time measurements shows a good agreement, with an average difference of 4.5 dB (standard deviation of 0.1 dB) for the example case of the node on the Head, in an indoor environment.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129346072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Age-related changes in resting-state and task-activated functional MRI networks","authors":"S. Chen, Chiao-Yi Wu, R. Lua, M. Miyakoshi, T. Nakai","doi":"10.1109/ISMICT.2013.6521732","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISMICT.2013.6521732","url":null,"abstract":"Resting-State Networks (RSNs) shown in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have been consistently and reliably identified. Amongst these, the Default Mode Network (DMN) has been most well researched and shown to have age-related decrease in functional connectivity and negative consequences for cognition. There are two other distinct RSNs, Salience Network (SN) and Executive Control Network (ECN), shown to co-activate during fMRI tasks. The SN has been suggested to be correlated with cognitive decline in healthy aging, however, the age-related dynamics between these three RSNs are not well understood. The current study examined the DMN, SN and ECN during resting-state fMRI in young and elderly from Japan and Singapore using data-driven independent component analysis (ICA) and functional network connectivity (FNC). We further investigated if the functional connectivity of the DMN and SN varied across tasks of different cognitive demands between young and elderly. Interestingly, the elderly had increased intrinsic activity that deviated from the expected DMN, SN and ECN, and increased functional connectivity within the anterior SN relative to the young during resting-state fMRI. For task fMRI, the elderly showed decreased activation in the primary networks of visual and motor processing, and increased task related activity for higher cognitive processes. However, the DMN and SN for task fMRI revealed consistent increased activity shifted outside the expected regions for the elderly. Difference in functional connectivity between young and elderly was varied across tasks. The elderly had marginally less number of correlated component pairs compared to the young, suggesting a decline in functional network integrity in aging. The current study demonstrated that resting-state data could be combined across two sites using ICA, as well as the use of DMN and SN as reliable networks to examine age-related changes in rest and task fMRI. Understanding the dynamics of these networks in relation to aging will provide potential neuroimaging markers for enhancing cognition, as well as detecting pathological decline.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128025890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Bedside medication safety management system using a PDA and RFID tags","authors":"A. Ohsaga, K. Although objective check by information system can be conducted, reading a warped-shape barcode on patient wristband or a one which is not at the expected location is quite complicated at a bedside. To solve this problem, we focused on the “contactless” and “hidden-target-readable” property of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. We developed a RFID-equipped PDA and RFID-embedded patient wristband and label for infusion bag, and started to use in all wards in our hospital from November, 2004. The PDA operation log showed that the time required for the authentication by RFID was just the half of that by barcode. This system was also extended to the blood transfusion authentication on June, 2006. Although this system provides both medical safety and work efficiency, medical staff might forget or skip authentication procedure. So, we also developed a Drip-stand-integrated authentication system to incorporate the authentication procedure into the operation of medication itself. Drip stand was equipped with the devices for authentication and active RFID tag was used for patient and medical staff ID's. The effect was also evaluated and it can authenticate faster than a basic PDA. Thus, RFID technology applied to patient and medicine authentication will provide both “Accurate check and recording with IT device” and “the reduction of the complication in authentication at a bedside” at the same time.","PeriodicalId":387991,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122780527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
