Time series data on inflation, government revenue, government expenditure, and gross domestic product were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The aforementioned secondary data cover the period from 1981 to 2021. The Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) unit root test and Johansen co-integration test were used to testing for data stationarity and the existence or otherwise of co-integrating equations respectively. Thereafter, data were analyzed using Ordinary Least Square and Parsimonious Error Correction techniques. Findings from the study show that government expenditure and revenue both have a positive relationship with the rate of inflation, though the latter is not statistically significant. Also, there is a positive but insignificant relationship between inflation and gross domestic product. In line with the above findings, we, therefore, recommend that the Nigerian government at all levels (local, state, and federal) should be tactful in the use of fiscal policy tools to avoid triggering inflationary pressure and its negative multiplier effects on the welfare of its citizenry.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123442044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Altman Z-score model has been used to assess the financial soundness of the 23 companies of five prominent industries in Bangladesh. Secondary data have been collected from the annual reports of the selected companies. This study found that 20% and 40% of the selected companies of the ceramic industry and tannery industry fall on the safe form respectively that means where investors can invest without any doubt as they are financially sound. Similarly, 28.57%, 40%, and 25% of the selected companies of cement, ceramic, and paper and printing industries stand in the grey zone respectively which indicates the companies have a good chance of bankruptcy within two years. Again 71.43%, 40%, 75%, 60%, and 100% of companies in the cement, ceramic, paper & printing, tannery, and jute industries’ financial conditions are not satisfactory respectively as they fall in the distress zone. And only 20% of the selected industries fall in the safe zone. That means the overall financial soundness of the selected industries is not well. This study will be an important source for further study in the field of credit strength measurement. Every actor of society those are involved in the business (investors, lenders, workers, suppliers, financial institutions as well as the economy itself) can be able to make adequate decisions by the findings of the study.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114312327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study has four main sections, including an introduction, an overview of socioeconomic indicators before the pandemic, methods, results findings, and discussion. The study used mixed methods, including an approach based on secondary data. The quantitative results were analysed using both empirical methods and the researcher’s prior expertise. The analysis of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on SSA countries was based on long-term data collected by several international financial institutions. The research findings demonstrated conclusively that COVID-19 is causing the collapse of the SSA economy, the first economic recession in 25 years, $37-79 billion in lost GDP by 2020, and an export decrease of 10.6%. In education, for example, 64% of primary and 50% of secondary students lack ICT training, 89% (216 million) do not have access to a home computer, and 82% (199 million) do not have an Internet connection missed classes during the COVID-19 period. The agricultural sector in SSA is also impacted by over 239 million hungry people. COVID-19 mass vaccinations and public debt amount to over $154 billion in obligations to get the SSA economy back on its feet with zero tolerance for embezzlement of public funds. These results can be used to make the economies of SSA countries resilient to the current crises and to address some thematic issues, such as the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in all SSA countries, which will save time and money by getting rid of border taxes. Therefore, policymakers can use the findings to begin formulating plans to address issues like economic development, education, and food insecurity.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115719950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigation employed a pragmatic approach and a descriptive design. Primary data as well as secondary data were used to achieve the study objectives. Questionnaires, interviews and documentary guides were used to collect primary and secondary data respectively. There were 108 questionnaires distributed to staff members and customers of 6 sampled commercial banks in Zimbabwe having mobile banking experience. The interview guide was administered to bank managers to get a deeper understanding of the topic under research and as a mitigation strategy for addressing the flaws of the questionnaires. Analysis of quantitative data utilised descriptive analysis tools, correlations analysis tools as well as regression analysis tools whereas theme analysis was used for qualitative data. SPSS version 26 was used for this purpose. The study implications established that mobile banking and commercial banks’ performance nexus in Zimbabwe was significant and also enhanced mobile banking security capabilities and strengthened commercial banks’ performance. The investigation concluded that mobile banking’s success in enhancing commercial banks’ performance hinged on its ability to allow the user to get easier, cheaper and timely access to services. However, the study results showed that the cost of mobile banking services, government policies and intense competition inhibited the uptake of banking services. Commercial banks are recommended to continue strengthening the security of mobile banking services and to boost their uptake by bank customers in Zimbabwe. The study purposively sampled fourteen (14) out of twenty-one (21) consumer goods firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc. The study used secondary sources to obtain panel data from the annual financial statements of the selected companies. Data sourced for were analyzed using random effects model and arithmetical means. Findings from the study revealed that the coefficient of share capital is positive (0.903050) and statistically significant (p=0.0099<0.05), but the beta value of retained earnings is negative (−0.683966) and significant (p=0.0023<0.05) for listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The average results found that 45% and 7% of total assets of the firms were financed by retained earnings and share capital respectively. The study confirmed that the appropriate mode of finance that could be considered for the effective performance of the firms in Nigeria is the share capital. The study concluded that share capital enhanced the performance of firms while the retained earnings did not in the country. The research recommended that the government of Nigeria should try to rebrand its dead local enterprises especially the affected consumer goods firms to enable them to attract more foreign investors into the country to enhance its economic growth.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"64 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127597055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to drastic changes in the business environment of tour and travel agencies, firms and marketing managers can now use search engine optimization to effectively position themselves. The study’s main goal is to evaluate the effect of search engine optimization on the market performance of registered tours and travel agencies in Nairobi County, Kenya. Kenya’s tourism ministry and state government work hard to improve the business climate for tour and travel companies. Despite the overall positive image, international tourist market growth rates in Kenya have been 3.5 percent slower from 2017 to 2019 compared to previous years. This was further aggregated by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the year 2020, when the growth rate of tours and travel agencies fell by 65%. The study’s main goal is to evaluate the effect of search engine optimization on the market performance of registered tours and travel agencies in Nairobi County, Kenya. This study adopted a positivist philosophy. Both descriptive and explanatory research designs were used. A self-administered semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 324 registered tours and travels agencies picked from and a sample of 179 were used. Data analysis included the development and interpretation of both descriptive and inferential statistics, such as frequencies, mean, percentages, and standard deviation, and was presented using tables and numerical values. The results of regression analysis established that search engine optimization had a positive and significant effect on market performance of the registered tours and travel agencies picked from a sample of 179. The study recommends that agency management ensure that the firm’s website is easily accessible in order to improve agency performance. Using the internet to gain a large market share can assist tours and travel agencies in improving the performance and income of their websites.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132229212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interviews and surveys were used to determine respondents’ perceptions of issues related to sustainability reporting. The results from this study found that 74 percent of the respondents are aware of sustainability reporting and its perceived strategic importance to businesses but only 29 percent of the respondent’s companies are reporting on environmental and social impacts of their business operations as indicated in the report. The results reveal that non-financial information disclosure and sustainability reporting practices among companies are at the early stage in Cambodia. The study also reveals that the nondisclosure of environmental and social activities could be due to the lack of disclosure requirements on environmental and social impacts of business operations by national law, the lack of incentives for companies to disclose, and the lack of understanding of the strategic importance of such reporting in generating competitive advantage and achieving sustainable business model. Findings in the study revealed several issues that require further analysis to identify significant factors that would influence environmental and social activities disclosure using a sustainability report.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127248473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a theoretical presentation that made is made of journals, articles, and data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) accessed on Google Scholar Websites. A total of eighty (80) articles were accessed. Results from a theoretical review revealed that while few states in Nigeria are in favor of a decentralized VAT administration in the country, quite a number of them (States) are averse to the new VAT regime due to differences among the states in terms of volume of business activities and economic power as many of the states rely on federal allocation. The study, therefore, recommends Partial Decentralization (PD) of VAT administration in Nigeria as a measure of autonomy for states that will guarantee fairness in resource control in the Nigerian Society.","PeriodicalId":387670,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Business and Economics","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127414824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
