The questionnaire was distributed to 32 (N=32) Diploma Hotel Catering students from Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan, Johor (PIS). Data obtained was analysed using WINSTEP version 3.68 software. The finding showed that POCLQ had high reliability with five categories of difficulties items. So, it can be concluded that POCLQ is reliable and strongly accepted. Meanwhile, analysis of items fit showed there were six items that are not in the specified range and based on standardised residual correlation measurement value; there were five items found to be overlapped that should be dropped. All the items that needed to be dropped based on the analysis of result had been refined and retained for the purpose of the study and based on expert's view. Therefore, all items remained after Rasch analysis. It is hoped that this study will give emphasis to other researchers about the importance of analysing items to ensure the quality of an instrument being developed.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129029907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HE, as we already aware, is a practice where the usability experts use their expertise and knowledge in assessing websites or systems. Whilst the practice is commonly performed manually, using tools in HE would theoretically assist the experts, but to what extent? This paper attempts to answer the posed question by performing a comparison study of a paired t-test or repeated measure t-test (within subject) between heuristic experts. They performed a HE on an e-commerce website under two conditions: normal HE method, and, HE assisted with Visual Clarity Checker (VC2) tool. The results of the experiment, shows the use of VC2 was helpful in issues compilation; as it does help the experts to at least find issues that are explicitly related to visual clarity of images and categorized them accordingly. But not all issues are incorporated in the final HE report, as the consideration is made by the experts. The feedback about the usage of the tool however are mixed, as the experts found it as time consuming to analyze the VC2 results.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128224691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system brings a new contribution beyond the state of the art by adding two novel features: the use of natural language and the ability to react in real-time to changes in parking occupancy. A group of 5 experts evaluated the prototype using Nielsen's set of heuristics in a think-loud approach. Results and implications for further design are presented. The prototype evaluation is considered within the broader context of smart city.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114350178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Between 2010 and 2040, Malaysians aged 60 years and above are projected to increase more than three folds of the 2010 population. The older adults who stay alone will feel so lonely and no longer have social lives like they used to be when they were younger. A robot is introduced in the life of the older adults to emulate feeling of closeness to their children or their friend. The robot becomes their friend to make them feel happy. Past research has highlighted the importance of emotion and social characteristics as human attribute to machine as a result from machine behaviour. Nevertheless, no study was done focusing on the eastern culture, such as from the perspective of Malay ethnicity, where similar concern exists in emotion, social characteristic, and robot with aging population. Hence, this paper report an investigation for robot interaction to help older adults who are lonely to have a better Quality of Live (QoL). There were 12 older adults involved in this research to determine response of the older adults towards robot interaction. The method used was interview with 2 caregivers for care house information and questionnaire to 12 older adults aged 60 years old and above. The questionnaire is based on older adults perception after watch a different video of robot. Result from the questionnaire shows that most of the older adults agree that robot can be their companion in daily lives and help reduce their loneliness. This study also found that majority of the older adults preferred humanoid robot instead of pet robot. This found will be used for the next objective with a real robot. The result provides insights of the benefit use of robot in the older adults lives to stimulate positive emotion for a better QoL.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114701444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In past, only those with certain level of musical knowledge were able to compose music as it is very time consuming to learn and practice musical instruments. Since the advent of modern computing, various methods were introduced to help music composition, such as Markov Chain (MC), Genetic Algorithm, Knowledge-Based system, and Cellular Automata. However, previous studies were paying less effort on evaluating the quality of music from human perception. The proposed system will apply a hybrid concept by combining few composition techniques to generate music with musical patterns. A framework on determining characteristics of a good music will be proposed in this paper as well.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127309929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact drastic changes in the technology have changed the research analysis from technical orientation to cognitive analysis. To date, the goal of this study is to design a User Interface (UI) which provides information for the user, to interpret and act upon effectively. In this study, close participation from the experts in the field of manufacturing industries are essential as their real time experiences in handling the system maintenance will be used as an input in developing UI prototype. Three instrumentation engineers from the manufacturing industries involved in this study, as to gather issues and problems in system maintenance by using Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA) method. In addition, system maintenance failure archived data were also analysed, to investigate the real time system maintenance problems. In order to help system users to be prepared on any possible obstacles during system maintenance, the input from the real time system maintenance problems were used to map up with the development of UI prototype. From the participatory CTA analysis, three common tasks that need to be considered in the UI prototype were cable, sensor and driver failures. Failure signal alarms were displayed on the UI prototype and solutions to overcome the system failure were also included in the UI prototype design. It is hope that by incorporating the real scenarios of the cognitive tasks in the development of the UI prototype will help users to enhance their tasks, and at the same time to increase the ease of use of the UI system at workplace.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130962245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New ethical issues are raising continuously due to the fast development of Information & Communication Technology I.C.T but ethical issues related with using I.C.T are unclear to most of the students. This research explores the attitude of the participants (students) of International Islamic University Malaysia (I.I.U.M) to the issues related to Information Property and studies the differences existence of characteristics of students such as age, level of study, gender, marital status, and computer usage regarding their attitudes with information Property issues. A total of 219 participants were questioned from postgraduate and undergraduate levels of I.I.U.M in Gombak campus. The analysis shows that most students were insensitive to the ethicality of information property and software copyright compliance. No significant changes between individual characteristics were found regarding students' attitude towards computer ethics and property. It is suggested that up to date ethics education courses taught from an Islamic perspective as part of curricula of the university can contribute students' positive attitude to information property.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114692641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technology help users to explore and share their activities through various messaging systems regardless of location and time. Messaging via texting is the essence of mobile communication and connectivity. However, it become increasingly difficult for visually impaired to use Short Message Service (SMS) technology of the limited functionality such as auto checking the texting contents before sent or read the message. This project focusing on system that using an audio as medium for exchanging information between blind user and mobile cell phone devices. This application using the voice haptic architecture model. The system containing a module which adopt with the text-to-speech (TTS) technology that converts text together with speech on the SMS application for helping these visually impaired people. The aim of this research project is to study an innovative solution as an approach to aid and support human independent living (HIL) for visually impaired community. The research defines innovative solution as smart solutions applications which is designed for the visually disabled people. Some interfaces with various numbers of simultaneous sound sources showed great potential in this field but require further evaluations and optimizations. Most of the new methods featuring audio are still not integrated into commercially available products, but have matured and proven to be very useful. We expect these alternatives to have a much stronger impact on future mobile devices, in which auditory interfaces will play an important role. The cost impact for this product is very cost-effective because it is compatible with smartphone and computer available in market today.","PeriodicalId":387278,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134213926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
