Despite its high incidence, the topic is rarely discussed, as few cases result in death. The aim of the current study is to describe public policies and the role of the State in ensuring care and preventing skin cancer related to occupational exposure. This is an integrative review conducted between May and July 2024 in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), MEDLINE/PubMed, and Cochrane electronic databases. The search strategy employed in the databases used the following English-language descriptors, recognized by the Health Sciences Descriptors system: (\"skin neoplasms\" OR \"melanoma\" OR \"basal cell carcinoma\" OR \"squamous cell carcinoma\") AND (\"health policy\" OR \"labor legislation\" OR \"human rights\") AND (\"ultraviolet rays\" OR \"occupational exposure\"). Twenty articles were selected, with most studies (n = 12) discussing the role of public policies in the context of skin cancer in workers exposed to radiation. Although there have been advances in workplace sun safety policies, gaps remain in their effectiveness, and it is necessary to invest in training, communication, and international references to improve them.</p>","PeriodicalId":38694,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Medicina do Trabalho","volume":"23 3","pages":"e20251477"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12463323/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145186952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzed the occupational risks related to lung cancer and their implications for workers' health. It is an integrative literature review, with searches conducted in SciELO, LILACS, and PubMed databases as well as institutional publications. A total of 13 studies were selected, including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and observational studies, providing a comprehensive view of the impact of prolonged exposure to carcinogenic substances in sectors such as construction, mining, and the chemical industry. The results show an association between occupational exposure and an increased incidence of lung cancer among workers. Weaknesses in inspection and in the implementation of preventive measures exacerbate this scenario. Studies highlight the need for stricter public policies, stronger regulations, and the expansion of early screening programs for exposed workers. Replacing harmful substances, combined with effective preventive measures, can significantly reduce cases of occupational lung cancer.</p>","PeriodicalId":38694,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Medicina do Trabalho","volume":"23 3","pages":"e20251417"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12459172/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145151338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Study characteristics, sample details, explored syndromes, and results were recorded. The search identified 7,898 articles. After removing duplicates and assessing eligibility criteria, 67 articles were reviewed, with 12 included in the final analysis. Brazil had the highest number of included studies. Most samples consisted of women and physicians and nurses. All studies addressed burnout syndrome, with reported prevalence ranging from 13.2% to 70.3%. High emotional exhaustion was reported in 15.9% to 39.4% of participants, high depersonalization in 11.8% to 44.2%, and low personal fulfillment in 0% to 61.3%. Findings on sociodemographic and occupational variables were heterogeneous, showing both convergence and divergence with existing literature. These principles align with the person-centered clinical method, a theoretical framework that offers techniques to assist health care professionals in clinical practice, especially physicians. This method positions the patients as the protagonists of their own health, actively participating in setting priorities and making decisions. However, when applied by occupational physicians, the person-centered clinical method still involves gaps and challenges to integrating prevention and health promotion, although it can add value to occupational health examinations, promote health within companies, and ensure the overall functionality of workers and the rational and sustainable use of health services. Patient-centered examinations not only meet Regulatory Standard 7 requirements but also provide an efficient examination and comprehensive care for workers that extend beyond work activities.
