The system for numerical experiments consists of eight sensors. The algorithm is implemented using three different initial guesses. For the calculated PD source coordinates, histograms are plotted. After finding the mean and standard deviation, coordinate values which are lying outside different fractions of sigma are removed. The average of remaining set is calculated and it is found that, the accuracy of location identification can be greatly improved.","PeriodicalId":385907,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123955079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is an attempt to deliver a performance analysis of Genetic Algorithm (GA) and the Modified Genetic Algorithm (MGA) working to optimize Artificial Neural Network (ANN) that trains itself on the fault detection and reconfiguration of the Cascaded Multilevel Inverters (CMLI). The open circuit (OC) faults occurring in the CMLI is considered for this comparative analysis of the performance. The parameters that are taken for the performance evaluation are elapsed time of recovery, Mean Square Error (MSE) and the computational budgets of ANN. Matlab/Simulink is used to develop the CMLI and M-files are used to develop the ANN and optimization algorithms like GA and MGA. The results are obtained and tabulated and performance evaluation carried out.","PeriodicalId":385907,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127783749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, powerlines are detected from UAV remote sensed images. The images are acquired from a Quad rotor UAV fitted with a GoPro® camera. In the proposed method pixel intensity-based clustering is performed followed by morphological operations. K-means clustering is applied for clustering. The number of clusters to be used in k-means clustering is automatically generated using Davies-Bouldin (DB) index. Further, the clustered data is processed to improvise the extraction using mathematical morphological operations. Performance of powerline extraction is analysed using confusion matrix method. In the observed results of powerline extraction using DB index, evaluation features derived from confusion matrix is close to one, indicating good classification.","PeriodicalId":385907,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132454772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main and typical diagnostic methods can be separated into global and local failure detection systems. An example for the global detection systems is the Dissipation-Factor-Measurement (tanδ). This technique is well established in the diagnostic and allows detecting a global failure, e.g. an electrical tree. However, this technique can't localize the failure position. Approved detection systems for local failures are the Time-Domain-Reflectometry (TDR) and the Partial-Discharge-Measurement (TE). These techniques need a failure (small insulation discontinuity or impedance skip) to detect the position. The Line-Resonance-Analysis (LIRA) is a possible solution for the detection of global and local failures. The system isn't well established and controversially discussed by experts. In this research study we investigate different algorithms applied to the LIRA in order to clarify the abilities of the LIRA. The LIRA technique is a modified type of the Frequency-Domain-Reflectometry (FDR). The main difference is that the LIRA uses the information of the resonance frequencies. The investigation of the LIRA is based on spectral analysis, which uses the Fourier-Analysis (DFT/FFT). Unfortunately this method is limited in the spacial resolution. For this reason and the fact that other investigation techniques for diagnostic use other possible detection algorithm, we want to examine more feasible mathematical functions. Potential algorithms for the spectral analysis are the Goertzel-Algorithm and the Chirp-Z-Transform (CZT). In this paper the research focus lies on the LIRA with different possible detection algorithm.","PeriodicalId":385907,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124857357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The identification of magnitude, type and duration of event is accomplished using Stockwell transform with different statistical features. During every event specific rise in rms current and reduction in efficiency of induction motor is observed. Electrical parameters are recorded using proposed energy meter model. The discussed methodology is based on energy acquired by the insulation during polarization process. Existing literature shows that steady excitation voltage is required to be applied to the insulation during polarization current measurement. During polarization, the dipoles in insulating material try to align themselves in the direction of applied field. During orientations process, these dipoles interact with each other which results in frictional loss within the dielectric material. As this loss is supplied by the excitation voltage, an increase in the frictional loss within the dielectric material leads to increment in energy requirement for completion of polarization process within the insulation. Therefore, by evaluating the amount of energy required for completion of polarization process, the condition of an insulating material can be predicted. For testing this hypothesis, three samples having different moisture content are prepared in the laboratory for testing. Once tested on the laboratory samples, the proposed method is applied on data collected from real-life power transformer. Results presented in this paper show that the discussed method can be reliably applied to real life transformers for assessing insulation condition.","PeriodicalId":385907,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"217 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114233016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of impurities in the insulation system is one of the root causes of insulation failure as they are form a weak zone inside the healthy insulation system. Therefore, early identification of degradation process like formation of electrical tree structures inside such solid electrical insulation due to high voltage tress during its operating life is utmost requirement to prevent the electrical power equipment from a sudden and complete insulation failure. To study the growth mechanism of electrical tree structure inside the insulation with different applied high voltage a commonly used insulating material like XLPE insulation in HV power cable are consider for this present work. The polymeric insulation, despite its numerous advantages, suffers from the space charge effects whenever it is subjected to high DC voltage. It is believed that space charge causes pre-mature breakdown of cable insulation. Therefore measurement of space charge in cable insulation is considered very important in view of it's use in HVDC transmission. The Pulsed Electroacoustic (PEA) method is generally used in the measurement of space charge in polymeric insulation. All the experiments were performed using PEA system developed in authors' lab.
