In this study, Al7075, reinforced with nano size SiC - Gr was produced by a stir casting technique and its microstructure and mechanical behavior were evaluated. Reinforcements were added in the range of 0 - 3 wt. %. The microstructure study, tensile and compression strength of the developed hybrid Metal Matrix Composites have been analyzed and examined. From the investigational study, it was found that the reinforcements are evenly dispersed in the base material. The porosity and density of the developed composites were found to be enhanced. The mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile and compressive strength of the developed MMCs could be improved by addition of SiC particulates compared to base material. Further, the strength of developed hybrid composites was found to be decreased by adding of solid lubricant such as graphite (Gr) particulates along with hard ceramic particulates. Finally, fractured surface of the tensile test specimens were analysed using a SEM analysis.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45413940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the variable quality of waste concrete, especially with various compressive strengths, can have a negative effect on the final compressive strength of recycled concrete. In this approach, the major goal of this research is to study the effect of parent concrete qualities on the performance of recycled concrete. To accomplish this task, three grades of different compressive strengths (10 to 15) MPa, (20 to 25) MPa, and (30 to 40) MPa have been analyzed in an experimental test program, in which an unknown compressive strength is introduced as well. The experimental mix use 40% of secondary aggregates (both course and fine) and 60% of natural aggregates. This led to the decreasing of the compressive strength of the test concrete between 14% and 23.7% compared to the normal concrete. This loss was improved by adding an amount of cement equivalent to 4% of the weight of the recycled aggregate used. The achieved results prove that the strength properties of the parent concrete have a limited effect on the compressive strength of the recycled concrete. Additionally, low compressive strength parent concrete, when crushed, generates a high amount of fine aggregate and large percentage of recycled coarse aggregates with less attached mortar, and presents the same compressive strength as an excellent parent concrete.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45150337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HMMCs compensate for the low desirable properties of each filler used. However, the mechanical properties of HMMCs are not well understood. In particular, microstructural investigations and wear optimization studies of HMMCs are not clear. Therefore, further studies are required. The present study is aimed at fabricating and mechanical and wear characterizing and microstructure investigating of Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Graphite (Gr) added in Aluminum (Al) alloy Al6061 HMMCs. The addition of SiC particles was in the range from 0 to 9 weight percentage (wt.%) in steps of 3, along with the addition of 1 wt.% Gr in powder form. The presence of alloying elements in the Al6061 alloy was identified using the Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX). The dispersion of SiC and Gr particles in the alloy was investigated using metallurgical microscope and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The gain in strength can be attributed to the growth in dislocation density. The nature of fracture was quasi-cleavage. The microstructure examination reveals the uniform dispersion of the reinforcement. Density, hardness, and Ultimate Tensile Strength values observed to be increased with increased contents of SiC reinforcement. Besides, wear studies were performed in dry sliding conditions. Optimization studies were performed to investigate the effect of parameters that affecting the wear. The sliding wear resistance was noticed to be improved concerning higher amounts of reinforcement leading to a decrease in delamination and adhesive wear. The predicted values for the wear rate have also been compared with the experimental results and good correlation is obtained.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47834038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This mix was typically designed to satisfy the requirements of tunnel concrete. The compressive and indirect tensile strengths were measured at room temperature, RT, and after exposure to 400°C and 800°C. Moreover, SEM micrograph and EDS spot analysis tests were done to evaluate the effect of elevated temperatures. Fifteen mixes of HPC with different ratios of W/(C+SF), SF, and PP fiber were tested. According to the test results, the compressive strength values of design mixes increased significantly after exposure to 400°C. Moreover, using SF = 10%, the results indicated remarkable improvements in the compressive strength at 400°C and 800°C, in the case of the W/(C+SF) ratio of 0.31. On the other hand, the highest effect of the presence of PP fibers was 0.211, depending on variable ratios of the W/(C+SF) ratio and the SF content. In the case of PP=0.106 and SF=10%, the mass loss was higher at exposure to temperatures of 800°C.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48896938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energy dissipation is associated with material degradation to determine the fatigue life with consideration to the irreversible thermodynamic framework. This relationship was developed by predicting a complete entropy generation using a statistical approach, where a constant amplitude loading was applied to evaluate the fatigue life. By conducting compact tension tests, different stress ratios were applied to the specimen. During the tests, the temperature change was observed. The lowest entropy generation was 2.536 MJm-3 K-1 when 3,000N load with a stress ratio of 0.7 was applied to the specimen. The assumptions of the models were considered through graphical residual analysis. As a result, the predicted regression model based on the applied load and stress ratio was found to agree with the results of the experiment, with only 9.3% from the actual experiment. Therefore, the entropy generation can be predicted to access the dissipated energy as an irreversible degradation of a metallic material, subjected to cyclic elastic-plastic loading. Thermodynamic entropy is shown to play an important role in the fatigue process to trace the fatigue life.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47450272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An experimental study was carried out on a full-scale girder under a concentrated load on two central nodes. A numerical analysis was carried out using ABAQUS in order to clearly see the behaviour of this type of joint and to make a comparison with the experimentation. This study will make it possible to examine attentively and to define the analytical model for this type of joint. The results obtained in this paper have shown that the sections with very thin-walled present different behaviours compared to the thin or more or less thick sections. As a result, the tested truss made it possible to observe the failure mode of this type of section, follow-up of a comparative study on the determination of the joint capacity by Eurocode 3 and CIDECT.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48349829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quantitative characteristic of this radiation is the wavelength at which the maximum power of the optical signal is achieved. This characteristic is called the central wavelength of the grating. The central wavelength shift depends on temperature and strain. As a rule, a linear approximation of this dependence is used. However, from the available literature it is known that, the grating wavelength shift demonstrates a strong nonlinear dependence on temperature at 5<T<200K and a weak quadratic dependence close to room temperature. Thus far, the authors have not found studies that consider all terms in the quadratic expansion of the central wavelength of the Bragg grating as a function of temperature and strain at near-room temperatures. Our work is intended to fill this gap. The article describes an experiment in which an optical fiber with Bragg grating was subjected to loading using three different weights. A step-wise temperature change from 5 to 100 0С was realized for each weight. Based on these data, all terms of the quadratic expansion of the desired function are determined. The contribution of each term is estimated.","PeriodicalId":38546,"journal":{"name":"Frattura ed Integrita Strutturale","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48631525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Incorporating fine metallic particles along with the ceramic reinforcements in the aluminium matrix tends to improve the ductility of the AMCs. This work highlights the effects of dispersing micro (5-10 μm) copper (Cu) particles along with the nano (100-400 nm) Metakaolin particles in the Al6082 matrix. The Metakaolin particles were premixed with Cu powder by means of manual stirring followed by ball milling before embedding into the Al6082 matrix. The total reinforcement composition was maintained as 7.5 wt.% in which 2.5 wt.% consisted of Cu powder. The composites were synthesized using ultrasonication-aided stir casting process. The composites samples were subjected to T6 heat treatment before performing mechanical characterization. The composites with Cu powder premixed Metakaolin particles showed improvement in tensile strength, ductility, compressive strength and hardness. The microstructure evaluation of the composites was performed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Optical Microscope (OM).
