An effective way to extend WSN lifetime is to partition the set of sensors into several covers and activate them alternately. More covers then lead to longer lifetime. Finding the maximum number of covers under full coverage constraint has been formulated as an NP-complete problem-the SET K-COVER problem. This study proposes the tabu search with random walk to deal with this problem. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing heuristic algorithms and genetic algorithm in number of covers obtained. Moreover, it achieves comparable solution quality with much less running time than the exhaustive search method does. The simulation results further validate the advantage of random walk in improving the performance of tabu search. These preferable results demonstrate the high capability of the proposed algorithm to extend WSN lifetime.","PeriodicalId":385063,"journal":{"name":"2012 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence","volume":"944 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116432538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In time series data, similarity metric are often used to measure the similar data. Many works use different algorithms to calculate similarity between two subsequences. Also, in location clustering, the well-known algorithm k-means and k-NN propose excellent results, and many works focus on how to increase efficient and accuracy of these algorithms. However, in some cases, we need to consider both similarities between locations and time series. Like greenhouse or wildfire detection, key points in these cases play an important status. This paper addresses how to cluster both location points and time series data together. We propose a new algorithm to consider location and time series together. We further show the algorithm we proposed can solve the problem of real cases well.","PeriodicalId":385063,"journal":{"name":"2012 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127706081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The steadily increasing diabetic population and strained health resources call for a more efficient approach to diabetes care. In the past few years, smart phones have become the mainstream communications device, especially for the younger generation. Coupled with the increased ease in developing and deploying mobile applications, there has been a surge in medical and health related mobile programs. These modern smart phones provide a readily available platform for deploying healthcare related services. By employing their computing resources and connectivity, health institutions can easily provide telehealth services to chronically ill patients. In this work, we put forward a mobile framework for providing personalized diabetes telehealth. Through leveraging the power of smart phones and wireless connectivity, better care and improved quality of life can be provided for diabetic patients by this framework.","PeriodicalId":385063,"journal":{"name":"2012 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence","volume":"08 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127181797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, in the freezing robot problem, once the environment surpasses a certain level of complexity, there may be no sufficient space for a robot to navigate using these planning or navigation approaches even with perfect predictions of moving entities. In this paper, it is argued that collision-free navigation in dynamic environments is learnable from demonstrations with proper feature sets without the use of a path planner. It is feasible to solve the freezing robot problem using the policies learned from demonstration. The simulation results demonstrate that the Learning to Search (LEARCH) approach with the proposed modification is capable of achieving collision- and freezing-free navigation in dynamic environments.","PeriodicalId":385063,"journal":{"name":"2012 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132601370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several existing node classification methods mainly focus on identifying node classes by exploiting structural and attribute information. However, the information in an emerging information network is usually limited. For example, an emerging social networking service usually has very few registered users (referred to as active users) and a significant amount of new comers (referred to as non-active users) resulting in very sparse interactions among active users. Under this circumstances, distinguishing the users that is likely to be an active user in the future from large-scale new comers becomes challenging. In this paper, we propose a hybrid classification model, which can distinguish whether a non-active user will become an active user in the future by incorporating multiple relations through a unified ranking measure. More specifically, given a friendship network and a mobile communication network, we aim to discover a ranked list of users, who are likely to become active users in the future, from a massive amount of non-active users. We reported several empirical observations from real data sets and conducted extensive experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of our hybrid classification model and ranking strategy.","PeriodicalId":385063,"journal":{"name":"2012 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128301857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
