Social media use has a positive significant relationship with knowledge on public administration (public policies); 2. Social media use has a positive significant relationship with public political participation. The research collected quantitative data through online survey questionnaires. 238 university students from three universities have responded to the survey. This study concludes that social media has improved the participation of the public in decision making. Also, social media is seen as a viable form of communication to disseminate information on public administration related issues and has improved the communication between officials and the public effectively. Respondents also believed social media has a role to play in improving public administration with time as it could inform, educate, receive feedback, and involve the public in decision making.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"32 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141818270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I explicitly introduce in my cost function the route distance of the domestic network in which carriers provide their services. Due to the declined in the domestic air transport routes in Cameroon, I proposed a hub-and-spoke network which influenced the operating revenue. My results, therefore, indicated that only two out of eleven routes are profitable. Consequently, to prevent huge shortfall in airlines revenues, I argued for the creation of the Domestic Network Sustainability Trust Fund.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132745178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, as the years and generations pass, women are just as capable to be a leader in big companies, yet due to past traditions they are still viewed as the caretaker of the family. The objective of the study was to presents in detail the attributes of the women trailblazers in higher education leadership in Kenya. A feminist approach problematizes the gendered relations in universities which research has pointed to inequalities in the distribution of resources and opportunities.This study is situated within the African Feminist theoretical framework because it is central to the fight against oppression of women in Africa and has granted women a platform to voice their concerns. The plank of African feminism postulates that, in many parts of Africa, women strive to bear and rear children in addition to having economic and political roles. This theory underpinned this study because African feminist perspective problematizes the blatant discrimination against women in all cadres, particularly in leadership levels across institutions. The study was qualitative in nature and was based on a census survey design. The research targeted 107 women in leadership ranks of principals, research centers’ directors, deans, and heads of departments, as well as deputy vice-chancellors and vice-chancellors across the 32 public universities.The results from the study are mainly based on a verbatim narrative of 18 women leaders in response to the research questions. Some of the 18 participants currently occupy senior leadership positions and small number of former leaders that have since completed their terms, retired or moved on to leadership positions outside the university. Overall the respondents are associated with 12 of the 32 public universities in Kenya. The study answered the research question: What is the defining attributes of the women in higher education leadership in Kenya? The study found that the attributes can be broadly categorized as leadership style and quest for identity, the right skillset, education, and training, activism and collaboration, reliance on role models and mentors, demonstration of ambition and standing out, and being an embodiment of spiritual values. The study concluded that it’s through the exposition of this attributes that the women in higher education leadership have been able to break the glass ceiling.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126106637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design/Methodology/Approach: The study used 300 observations from countries with developed and undeveloped banking systems. The paper applies estimation methods including Pooled OLS, FEM, REM and GLS related to panel data as well as multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity tests for model selection. Research findings: Similar to previous papers, this research proved that most financial inclusion indicators have positive correlation with commercial banks profitability. In addition, this research suggested 3 new variables and pointed out: “Institutions of commercial banks”; “Outstanding-loans with commercial banks” positively impact banks profitability whereas “Outstanding-deposits with commercial banks” has negative influence on banks profitability. Theoretical contribution/Originality: The majority of previous papers have explored the effect of financial inclusion at the national level, for example, the relationship between financial inclusion and economic growth. Meanwhile, this paper investigated the impact of financial inclusion on commercial bank profitability, an issue concerned recently. Policy implication: This study can assist countries achieve a higher level of financial inclusion to raise commercial banks profitability, thereby boosting economic growth.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114608697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Academic discourse in social sciences hold divided opinion that mining companies are sources of economic growth and employment possibilities for the host communities. While the damage to the environment, security and health in general seems to outweigh the said benefits, there is need to offer a balanced view. These complexities challenge researchers and policy makers to address the dynamics of economic intensification and local scale land-use systems and their long terms implications. Fluorspar Mining Company's presence among the Keiyo of Kenya has traditionally produced opportunities for direct and indirect employment for the local population as well as new opportunities for commerce and exchange, thus reducing poverty and fostering economic progress. The operation of mining company, however, inside these areas, and their subsequent closure, may have presented environmental and economic difficulties for the local community, high crime rates, extensive unemployment, and rising dependency. This study thus addresses these controversies and how in particular, problem of environmental degradation directly impacts host communities. The paper examines the experience of Keiyo's despoliation by the Kenya Fluorspar Company to demonstrate the scope and dynamics of the challenge and highlight the significance of the role played by individuals and civil society organizations in securing accountability for one of the most difficult aspects of economic globalization. It employs legitimacy theory with the environmental justice theory to explain how mineral explorations affect the environment. By doing this, the social processes that have taken place under these circumstances will help to clarify the nature of the Keiyo economy's issues. Ultimately such an approach is best able to reveal the reasons for the poor performance of many African societies in post-colonial era. The study considers not only shifts in land use and valuation but also the ways that the Keiyo have come to conceive of, and work with local ecological dynamics.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"263 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132246356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Missionary enterprise had neither converted the two communities to Christianity nor created a school for them, as was the case in other parts of Kenya. Responsibility fell on the Local Native Council (LNC), which had become operational in 1925. The LNC wanted a secular education geared towards literacy for the Keiyo and Marakwet as opposed to the government and missionary type of education which was technical oriented and evangelical. While missionaries viewed western education as a vehicle for spreading the gospel, the colonial state demanded that African education meet the needs of the Uasin Gishu settler labour market. Both, however, were desperately handicapped by lack of resources and each Keiyo adult and Marakwet had to contribute two shillings each in the form of taxes to construct Tambach School. The colonial government reluctantly facilitated the infrastructural and curriculum development as part of their control and domination strategy. This essay builds on „the struggle for school‟ paradigm elaborated by John Anderson that Africans in Kenya played a major role in the early development and control of schools in Kenya. But for a start, such a history cannot be complete without a brief narrative of colonial economic change and of Tambach enclave as a hill station that was scenic and exotic, situated at mountain range of the picturesque Elgeyo escarpment.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132298599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mfewou, Ngagoum Nitcheu Vannelle, Buba Umaru Hassan","doi":"10.23958/ijssei/vol08-i04/334","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.23958/ijssei/vol08-i04/334","url":null,"abstract":"In the West Cameroon region, agri-food establishments: bakeries, fishmongers and restaurants contribute to three quarters (3/4) of employment in the towns, turnover and added value of regional businesses. These are also the sectors that consume the most electrical energy; between them, these establishments account for more than 50% of the electrical energy consumption in the entire Western region of the country. For six months, we conducted the study in (5the) major towns of West Cameroon chosen at random (Mifi, Menoua, Bamboutos, Nde and Haut-Nkam). Field observations of recurrent power cuts and surveys of local policy makers were also conducted on the supply of electricity, which remains problematic throughout the country. Our results show that the average electricity consumption per establishment is particularly high in bakeries, at around 1441.67 KWh, compared to 1295.45 KWh for fishmongers and 371.21 KWh for restaurants. Electricity is mainly used as a driving force for thermodynamic purposes (cold rooms, deep-freezing and air-conditioning of engines in bakeries, etc.). On the other hand, it should be noted that this sector of activity faces enormous difficulties, including the inadequacy of electrical energy in terms of supply, access and quality. The electricity supplied by The Energy of Cameroon (Eneo) is still very inadequate given the high demand. It is precarious and characterised by untimely power cuts. In fact, the average power cut in the cities studied is 24 days and 20 minutes, for a period of six months. We have come to the effective conclusion that recurrent power cuts are the result of a poor electricity supply and have a significant impact on the agri-food activity, due to their dependence on this source of energy. All these problems in West Cameroon indicate that energy demand will have to increase considerably in the coming years due to population growth (+7.8%) and socio-economic development. Therefore, we believe that policy makers should turn to renewable energies which are natural energy sources such as solar and wind power. In addition, local elected officials should think about building more mini hydroelectric dams in villages to reinforce urban areas with electrical energy.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115229831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Before the 1970s, the escarpment was carpeted with lush, semi-tropical vegetation. But due to factors associated with human activities, a large part of the mountainous slopes has been destroyed together with its ecosystems. It is a study in historical context that traces the demographic profile of the Keiyo and the economic challenges that they have faced in search of livelihoods. The study is about understanding the relationship between history, environmental degradation and peasant livelihoods. The theoretical starting point is provided by Kirk’s environmental perception mode and studies on human behavioural characteristics. The Keiyo are culpable of reckless destruction of their ecosystem with devastating consequences of death, deluge and destruction. Landslides that have become a common occurrence began from the 1980s. This has been blamed on wanton tree cutting for charcoal and the use of fire to clear land for the cultivation of maize.","PeriodicalId":383575,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Economics Invention","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125088181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
