These lesions usually appear as a single nodule or sessile papule with a smooth or lobulated surface. These are available in a range of sizes ranging from a few millimetres to many centimetres. Pyogenic granuloma of the oral cavity is said to affect the gingiva 75% of the time. It may appear extraterrestrially on occasion. We present a case of Pyogenic granuloma in a 22-year-old man's lower jaw, which is a common location for this lesion.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128294337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hospital-acquired infections, also known as nosocomial infections, have become a major concern in recent years and got more attention after widespread of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In terms of a dental healthcare facility, it is important to understand the types of infections present in the facility environment and the associated risks with them along with their cross-transmission risk. A dental hospital has different working zones which are interdependent which increases the chances of infection propagation. To avoid the propagation of these infections, standard protocols, and preventive measures have been discussed widely but one of the most important factors which is the designing and planning of the healthcare facilities has not been discussed much from the aspect of propagation of infections which could largely decrease the propagation of the infections from different areas within the facility and infecting a different group of peoples in it. The prime focus of the study was on reviewing infectious pathogens related to nosocomial infections, pathogenicity, the risks associated, and ways to reduce the propagation through the implementation of architectural planning movement flow and designing of a dental hospital.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117206321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some parents do not care about the oral health of their children, and they more frequently visit pediatricians. So, pediatricians are one of the most reliable profession for preventing children’s oral diseases, and promoting awareness. The aim of the study was to know the knowledge and awareness of pediatricians’ about early childhood caries (ECC) in lumbini province, Nepal.A total of 40 pediatricians were selected by using census sampling method and were requested to fill out an objective questionnaire pertaining to individual’s knowledge about ECC, without providing any oral health information taking duration of the study from March 2021 to September 2021.About 23(56.5%) of pediatricians understood the importance of pediatric dentistry. About 34(86.2%) of pediatricians performed oral examination regularly. Around 17% of pediatricians had knowledge of the ECC. Only 14(33.3%) of pediatricians acknowledged the cariogenicity of sugar containing medical syrups.The study shows poor knowledge regarding ECC, oral health, and dental treatment need in children among the surveyed pediatricians although having good knowledge about pediatric speciality and importance of primary dentition. Thus, there is a need to update the Pediatricians on recent recommendations about ECC and its early screening.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122368297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chlorhexidine not only shows the property of substantivity, but due to its broad spectrum of antimicrobial property, it is used in various oral diseases. Different uses of chlorhexidine are, prime most is as a major antiplaque agent, it can be used as a root canal irrigant during the process of root canal treatment, it can be used in the prevention of the dental caries as it results in the suppression of the streptococcus mutans in the oral cavity. It helps in the prevention of the secondary infection from the apthous ulcers as well as from the alveolar osteitis, it can also be prescribed to the patient suffering from denture stomatitis, show promising results also as an anti fungal agent. The use of chlorhexidine mouth wash is not recommended for long term use, as it results in discoloration, so to over come this disadvantage of the chlorhexidine a new formulation with properties of anti discoloration is preferred in case for long term use of the chlorhexidine, and this new system with property of anti discoloration shows promising results in every manner.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131135850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those lesions encompass pyogenic granuloma, inflammation fibroma, peripheral large cellular granuloma, and peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF). Among those lesions, the Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF) is an occasionally happening non-neoplastic gingival growth with regions of calcification or ossification. That is a case presentation of a 31-year-old woman with gingival overgrowth within the maxillary left molar area. Clinically, the lesion was asymptomatic, firm, pale pinkish, and pedunculated. The management of mandibular angle fracture depends on various factors such as the severity of the injury, associated injuries, patient's age and overall health, and availability of resources. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the incidence, etiology, management, and outcomes of mandibular angle fracture in patients with maxillofacial injuries in and around Indore, using a combined retrospective and prospective approach.: A combined retrospective and prospective study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in and around Indore. Data were collected on patient demographics, injury characteristics, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and outcomes. A total of 1510 patients with maxillofacial injuries were included in the study, out of which 114 patients had mandibular angle fractures. The incidence of mandibular angle fracture in our study population was 19%. The majority of the patients with mandibular angle fracture were males (80.9%) and in the age group of 21-40 years (56.1%). The most common cause of mandibular angle fracture was road traffic accidents (77.7%), followed by assault (17.7%). The most common associated injuries were fractures of para symphysis (63.6%) followed by fractures of the condyle (25.3%). The follow-up of patients with mandibular angle fracturs showed a good clinical outcome in the majority of cases. Mandibular angle fracture is a common type of maxillofacial injury in our study population, with road traffic accidents being the most common cause. Early diagnosis and appropriate management of mandibular angle fractures can prevent long-term complications and improve patient outcomes.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129344988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Healthy dietary practises have an impact on dental health. The future embryo's development, including the growth of the maxilla, the formation of the skull and face, and dental organogenesis, is impacted by a lack of vitamins and minerals during the preconception period. Understanding how nutrition and eating habits affect both children's and adults' caries rates is necessary to improve oral health. Lack of vitamin A, C, E, and folate all has a detrimental effect on periodontal health. Throughout the early phases of embryonic development, folate is crucial. Oral cancer is most common in people who smoke, chew tobacco, or consume alcohol. Changing one's nutrition can have a significant impact on one's health throughout one's life, both positively and negatively. Food consumption must be improved in order to minimise the incidence of oral and pharyngeal cancer. The primary sources of vitamins and fibre are fruits, vegetables, and grains, thus a daily meal should have an appropriate quantity of each. By giving folate during the first trimester of pregnancy and in the months leading up to conception, the likelihood of nervous system abnormalities is reduced. Chewing gum and other xylitol-containing products have significantly decreased dental cavities, and they provide tempting alternatives for people who are most at risk. The aim of this study is to review the evidence suggesting link between diet, nutrition, and oral health and to provide dietary advice for the prevention of oral diseases.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124753320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lesser the friction between the bracket and the archwire, the easier it is to align the teeth and the lighter the forces required to make such movements. In recent years, patients’ esthetic demands have driven the field of orthodontics to find alternatives to conventional stainless steel bracket systems. While ceramic brackets meet the esthetic demands, their inferior frictional characteristics have always been an issue for orthodontists.The present in-vitro research study evaluates and compares the frictional resistance between various types of brackets, archwire materials and ligation methods. The purpose of the study was to equate the frictional resistance among 12 different groups using the universal testing machine, so as to recognize the factors involved in the in-vitro appraisal of resistance to sliding (RS) and inferring their clinical implications. In this study, 120 pre-adjusted edgewise upper central incisor brackets with MBT 0.022″ slot were used, which included 40 standard metal brackets, 40 ceramic brackets, 20 self-ligating metal brackets and 20 self-ligating ceramic brackets. 0.019″ x 0.025″ SS (stainless steel) archwires, esthetic archwires, Teflon-coated ligatures and conventional elastic modules to ligate the archwire to the brackets except in self-ligating brackets, were used. The average frictional resistance of Group A10 was the minimum succeeded by A9, A12, A4, A11, A8, A3, A7, A2, A6, A1 and A5. In the comparison of the mean frictional resistance of 12 different groups, the ANOVA test showed noticeably different frictional resistance amongst the groups (F=745.80, P< 0.001). Self-ligating metal bracket combinations with different archwires showed a significantly smaller magnitude of friction than self-ligating ceramic, metal and ceramic bracket combinations. Teflon-coated ligature combinations possess less friction in comparison with conventional elastomeric module combinations.","PeriodicalId":383292,"journal":{"name":"International Dental Journal of Student's Research","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133144473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
