The research uses the synergy view on social capital, which incorporates organisational and institutional actors as well as local community. Through interviewing different types of stakeholders from the destination, data were collected and consequently analysed with the use of thematic analysis. An important element was identified: trust, which is especially necessary in order to facilitate collaboration. Furthermore, positive influence from communication and local engagement in collaborations was noted. In addition, the role of institutions and tourism organisations in the creation and positive demonstration of social capital in a tourism destination was emphasized. Therefore, there is a need to recognise the complementary relationships of different agents in tourism destinations.","PeriodicalId":383209,"journal":{"name":"Dos Algarves: A Multidisciplinary e-Journal","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126498009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data was collected from the SABI database, from 2006 to 2016. Given the longitudinal structure of our data, the hypotheses were tested using panel data methodologies, namely by fixed effects models. Our results suggest that firms facing more financial constraints reveal greater investment sensitivity to the internal financing and save more money in relation to cash flows. On the other hand, our results suggest that exporters display higher investment and cash sensitivities to the cash flow than domestic firms. In addition, companies that export inside and outside the EU market appear to have greater sensitivity to their investment and cash holdings to the cash flow.","PeriodicalId":383209,"journal":{"name":"Dos Algarves: A Multidisciplinary e-Journal","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126337742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results suggest that the characteristics of industrial SMEs have different relevance in the way firms finance themselves and, for the most part, are more consistent with the pecking order theory, placing short-term debt next to equity. This should merit the attention of managers, given that short-term debt carries higher financial charges. Considering each of the industries separately, the empirical evidence also confers more consistency to the pecking order theory. The observed effect on the manufacturing industries reveals that the capital structure of the companies concerned cannot be explained solely by the characteristics of the companies, but also by the industry in which they are inserted.","PeriodicalId":383209,"journal":{"name":"Dos Algarves: A Multidisciplinary e-Journal","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133655410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite their importance and wide use in the hotel sector, research into the budgeting practices of hotels located in Portugal is scarce. This study analyses the budgeting practices of hotels in the Algarve. Data collected through a structured questionnaire submitted to financial managers shows that budgets are widely adopted; however, they are mainly produced for the short term. The primary reasons for preparing budgets are performance evaluation, target setting, control and short-term planning. Few hotels use zero-base budgeting and there is also little use of flexible budgeting. Budgets are viewed as one of the main performance indicators. The findings are in line with the conclusions of previous studies.","PeriodicalId":383209,"journal":{"name":"Dos Algarves: A Multidisciplinary e-Journal","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116510772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the Six Markets Model of Christopher, Payne and Ballantyne (2002), the relationship management model of this restaurant is illustrated and its relevance in the process of creating value for the different stakeholders is shown.
