When broadcasting common information, such as control signals, the base station does not have channel state information to the terminals. We propose that the base station broadcasts this common information using a low dimensional orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC). This code is mapped onto the large antenna array with the use of a dimension reducing matrix, effectively “shrinking” the channel. The terminal can estimate the effective channel and decode the information, even when the coherence interval is short compared to the number of base station antennas. Different OSTBCs are compared in terms of outage capacity in practical scenarios using estimated CSI. Various types of end devices are implemented and used for different scenarios. There is neither base station nor access point, so as to avoid the single-point-of-failure. The developed test bed has been deployed successfully in two real fields. It operates independently to provide various community services, while it can be bridged to internet through a connected end device. In this work, we consider a single-user energy harvesting wireless communication system, in which both of the arrival data and the harvested energy curves are modeled as continuous functions. Our goal is to find an offline algorithm, which maximizes the amount of data which is transmitted to the receiver node by a given deadline. The real-time experimental laboratory setup was assembled to operate in conditions as realistic as possible by combining hardware prototypes for the broadband transmitters, commercial PMR terminals and a radio channel emulator (providing mobile channels conditions based on the Extended Pedestrian A specifications). Unfortunately, this requirement results in RF impairments and may thus cause performance degradations. In this paper, we show how one of these impairments, namely in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) imbalance, distorts the received signals in an uplink multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system where multiple users are spatially multiplexed into the same time-frequency resource. In addition, we present three receiver (RX) post-processing methods and analyze their performance with different multicarrier scenarios under transceiver I/Q imbalances. The results clearly show that the simple maximum ratio combining (MRC) based RX processing suffers heavily from the presence of multiple spatially multiplexed users, especially in case of I/Q imbalances, and cannot necessarily provide sufficient performance even with the number of RX antennas approaching infinity. In contrast, the linear minimum mean-square error (LMMSE) processing offers more flexible and efficient operation characteristics but is also shown to suffer from performance degradations due to I/Q imbalances. We compare the performance of 802.11ac with 802.11n for both single and multi-hop transmissions in a wireless mesh network (WMN). Our first observation is that the single-hop performance of 802.11ac outperforms 802.11n, however, as the number of transmission hops increases 802.11ac does not have a significant advantage over 802.11n. In addition, our measurement results show that the best throughput performance with the minimum standard deviation is achieved by TCP CUBIC and TCP BIC for multi-hop transmission. Specifically, one of the sources is to be reproduced losslessly by two separate decoders, and the other one is to be reproduced losslessly by only one of the two decoders. The decoders observe side information sequences that are arbitrarily correlated among them, and with the sources. We establish a single-letter characterization of the optimal compression rate of this model.
