Methods: In 2022, a cross-sectional study “Prevalence of dental pathology among the population of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (using the example of Arkhangelsk) and associated characteristics of the microbiome of the intestine and the respiratory tract” (hereinafter referred to as the dental study) was conducted in Arkhangelsk. The dental study was a part of the study “Molecular and genetic markers of the response to coronavirus infection and changes in the human microbiota and metabolome during the COVID-19 pandemic” (hereinafter referred to as the study on the effects of COVID-19). Data collection for the study was carried out from October 3 to November 10, 2022 at the Northern State Medical University. The study involved 463 adults aged 42-76 years living in the city of Arkhangelsk, representing a random sample of the adult population who had previously taken part in the “Know Your Heart” project in 2015-2017. All participants were asked to undergo an additional dental examination. The response rate was 91.6%. The dental examination included a questionnaire, assessment of dental status as recommended by the World Health Organization (2013), assessment of oral hygiene and gum inflammation, collection of gingival fluid, autofluorescence stomatoscopy (AFS), dental aesthetic index (DAI), examination by an orthodontist with periotestometry, performing a photo protocol, conducting biometrics of plaster models. Also, if indicated, participants were asked to undergo in-depth diagnostics to identify orthodontic pathology, namely, teleradiography and a cone-beam computed tomography.","PeriodicalId":38121,"journal":{"name":"Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology)","volume":"28 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138948240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The level of resistance of the human body living in the North to the effects of various damaging factors is significantly lower due to the slowdown in the maturation of immunity in children and a decrease in the reserve capabilities of immune reactions in adults, which is especially important in the context of a new coronavirus infection. In the North, \"marginal pathology\" is widespread - diseases of the bronchopulmonary system. Currently, there is no information about the state of immune homeostasis after COVID-19 in residents of the Arctic region with a history of comorbid background. Aim. To identify the ratio of immunocompetent cells, immunoglobulins and cytokines after COVID-19 in individuals with a comorbid background. Materials and methods. 45 people, aged 18-40, were examined, including 25 women and 20 men, residents of Arkhangelsk, who suffered from COVID-19 of mild and/or moderate severity, confirmed by laboratory (U 07.1). All the examined Northerners had a history of concomitant chronic disease of marginal pathology (chronic bronchitis). Results. The frequency of occurrence of elevated values of cellular immunological parameters CD8+ and CD95+, as well as immunoglobulins IgM, IgG, IgE in young women after COVID-19 with a history of chronic bronchitis is associated with elevated values of cytokine IL-1β in 17-45% of cases, depending on the indicator (p0.01) and only in 10% of cases It is interrelated with an increased content of IL-10 and TNF-α. Conclusions. In young men after COVID-19 with a history of chronic bronchitis, high concentrations of CD8+ and CD95+ cells are associated with increased levels of IdA (5%), IgM, IgG, IgE (13-25%) and are associated in 17% of cases with high levels of IL-10 and TNF-α (15%). Young Northerners with a history of chronic bronchitis after Covid-19 of mild and/or moderate severity have a high concentration of CD8+ and CD95+ cells, IgM, IgG, IgE, IL-10 and TNF-α against a background of low concentrations of CD10+ and IL-4 cells, regardless of gender.","PeriodicalId":38121,"journal":{"name":"Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology)","volume":"30 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138980054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comparison group consisted of 43 children consuming drinking water of satisfactory quality in terms of nitrate content; the observation group consisted of 35 children consuming drinking water with an increased nitrate content. The assessment of the level of nitrates in household drinking water, identification of the concentration of N-nitrosamines and nitrate ions in the biological media (blood, urine) of children was carried out. The technology of flow cytometry and enzyme immunoassay was used to evaluate the immunoregulation parameters by PCR polymorphism of genes. \u0000RESULTS: It was found that the nitrate content in drinking water in the observation area is statistically significant (p0.001) 2.8 times higher than the values detected in the comparison area. It was found that in the children of the observation group, the content of N-nitrosodiethylamine in the blood was statistically significantly increased (p=0.044-0.049) by 2.3 times, and the nitrate ion in the urine by 1.6 times relative to the values detected in the children of the comparison group. In the children of the observation group, a statistically significant (p=0.001-0.039) decrease in the number of NKT, an increase in the level of CD3+CD25+-, CD3+CD95+-cells, bax, IL17, Annexin V-FITC+PI-- and Annexin V-FITC+PI+-lymphocytes was revealed compared with the results recorded in children of the comparison group. Polymorphism of candidate genes controlling tumor formation (CYP1A1rs1048943, MMP9rs17576, PPARDrs2016520) was revealed. \u0000CONCLUSION: It was found that in children with chronic low-level nitrate exposure (at the level of 1.2 MPC) with drinking water from underground sources, there is an excess content of N-nitrosodiethylamine and nitrate ion in the urine in the blood, which determines the features of the immune response and genetic profile.","PeriodicalId":38121,"journal":{"name":"Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology)","volume":"80 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139012139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the Chen method (CIAS), the sample was divided into Internet addicts and a control group. Background EEG was recorded in 16 standard leads. A spectral analysis of the EEG was carried out in terms of the total power of the spectrum, the power of the spectrum in the alpha range (V2), and the rhythm index.RESULTS: In addicts, EEG type I prevailed (86% of cases) with an alpha rhythm structure organized in time and space, modulated into pronounced spindles, and also (14% of cases) type II encephalogram was presented, characterized by hypersynchronous alpha activity , weakly modulated or not at all modulated into spindles with high Rhythm Index values. In the control group of young people, there were three types of normal EEG organization. Organized type I was 69%, hypersynchronous type II - 8%, while desynchronous type III with a low representation of the -component and its replacement by and 1 rhythms was noted in 23% of the subjects of the control group.CONCLUSION: The patterns of bioelectrical activity of the brain of Internet addicted young people, obtained in our study, probably reflect a certain (developed) stage of the addictive process, in which there are no pronounced negative EEG manifestations of Internet addiction against the background of adaptive mechanisms formed in addicts to such a way of life.","PeriodicalId":38121,"journal":{"name":"Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology)","volume":"55 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139258539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

 METHODS: The subjects were men aged 18 to 21 years, without bad habits, who have not taken any medication recently. Studies were conducted simultaneously in four cities of the Russian Federation (Voronezh, Sevastopol, Tomsk, Khanty-Mansiysk). The effect of three types of solar flares, whose classification is based on changes in the amplitude of the thermal X-ray burst, was studied. Material for cytogenetic study was collected on days 3, 7, and 10 after the solar flare. The human buccal epithelium micronucleus test was chosen as a method to evaluate genetic homeostasis. 495 thousand buccal epithelial cells were analyzed. Statistical processing of the study results was performed using \"Stadia\" and \"Statistica\" software packages. Identification of the influence of factors was performed using multivariate analysis of variance and two-factor analysis of variance with fixed effects.
 RESULTS: It was revealed that solar activity affects the stability of the human genetic apparatus by increasing the influence of the city pollution and its geographical location on the number of cells with nucleus abnormalities. The combined effect of solar flare and season of its occurrence on the number of cells with nucleus aberrations (the highest number of nuclear anomalies was registered in winter) was shown. No independent influence of solar activity on the number of cells with nuclear abnormalities was revealed. Thus, 3, 7, 10, and 17 days after the flare, no increase in the number of cells with nucleus anomalies was registered.
 CONCLUSION: The highest number of cells with nucleus abnormalities is observed in Sevastopol, which is associated with the highest anthropogenic pollution of this city compared to the other cities. Solar activity increases the influence of the city pollution and its geographical location on the number of cells with nucleus abnormalities. The results obtained can be used in conducting a micronucleus test of human buccal epithelium and in planning measures to assess the genotoxicity of the environment.","PeriodicalId":38121,"journal":{"name":"Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology)","volume":"109 16","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135138271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon can be triggered by a variety of natural or man-made disasters. Throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic, all countries experienced a rise in mortality rates, although not all deaths were directly caused by the coronavirus infection. Estimation of excess mortality during a pandemic, particularly stratified by the leading causes of death, is an important public health issue. The outcomes of these calculations, however, can vary significantly depending on the methodological approaches employed to estimate excess mortality. The aim of this study was to provide a systematic review of the analytical methods used by the international research community to quantify excess mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Full-text publications in both Russian and English, published between 2020 and 2022, that focused on assessing excess mortality during the COVID-19 were reviewed. The search for English-language publications was conducted in the MEDLINE database (www.pubmed.gov), while Russian-language publications were sourced from the Scientific Electronic Library database (www.elibrary.ru). Out of the 725 publications initially identified, we included 73 original studies in this review. Among the various statistical methods employed to estimate excess mortality, the most commonly utilized approaches were Poisson regression with correction for overdispersion and a range of adaptive models based on autoregression and integrated moving average. The selection of a specific model depended on factors such as the duration of the existing time series, its characteristics, and the forecasting interval. This review may serve as a resource for Russian-speaking researchers and analysts seeking guidance on selecting an appropriate analytical approach when examining excess deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia.","PeriodicalId":38121,"journal":{"name":"Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology)","volume":" 31","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135341370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
