Relevant factors were identified from the literature and studied by means of questionnaire survey sent to construction industry professionals that include architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and builders. The importance of each factor was computed for all the professionals via the severity and frequency responses of the factors. Data analysis includes ranking comparison among the professionals using severity, frequency and importance indexes. Percentage rank agreement factor (PRAF) was used to measure agreement of the importance ranking among construction professionals and one sample t-test was conducted to determine the significance of each factor. Finally, correlation analysis was used to measure the degree of correlation among all professionals.The results shows that the five most important factors are ‘poor quality of materials delivered to site’, ‘lo...","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":"6 1","pages":"103-113"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2015.1033662","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is a critical study concerning the status of this commitment. The study will describe, analyse, discuss and examine issues, constraints and opportunities related to green building and the environmental development policy in Indonesia. This study argues that green building does not have a solid foundation for its regulatory practice and implementation. This study aims to uncover the reasons why. The focus of the paper is a discussion of the issues related to green building design in the context of energy policy and practice for environmental development in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":"6 1","pages":"82-89"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2015.1025450","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But with the last significant upgrade of the scheme and its simulation engine more than a decade ago, NatHERS is showing its age. This paper examines the emerging evidence questioning the scope, assumptions and algorithms that define the scheme, and points to a scheme that may be becoming less accurate at assessing contemporary homes and digital lifestyles. Furthermore, the inability to integrate into typical computer aided design (CAD) processes entrenches inefficiencies within the housing design industry. Responding to this evidence the paper provides a vision for evolving the scheme and its tools to better address policy needs and ensure that it remains pertinent to both industry and government, highlighting issues of relevance to many rating schemes and energy assessment ...","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":"6 1","pages":"90-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2015.1025451","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Selecting and implementing simple energy efficiency measures (EEMs) to reduce energy use and become more sustainable can be straightforward. More complex measures are under continuous improvement and have a greater range of financial options. Making the right long-term choice is difficult and the United Kingdom (UK) market remains sceptical. The results of this paper show that risk and uncertainty are the two key factors that inhibit wholesale adoption of EEMs and as a result a new method of long-term assessment is proposed. The Energy Efficiency Value Matrix (EEVM) consists of the following functional drivers: Cost, Flexibility, Maintenance, Energy Saving and Product Sourcing. Under these headings a building owner may consider any EEM and make a more informed choice. This study illustrates the use of geographic information system (GIS) and multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) techniques for the selection of suitable sites for urban development in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. Toposheet and CARTOSAT 1 satellite data were used to generate various thematic layers using ArcGIS software. Using these tools, several suitability factors including slope, soil, geology, road proximity, land use/land cover, depth to water table, distance from built-up area, geomorphology, and water quality map were evaluated. An analytical hierarchical process was used to rank the various suitability factors and the resulting weights were used to construct the suitability map layers. In doing so, the derived weights were used. Finally, a synthesised land suitability map was generated by combining these maps. A combination of the BIM-based design and analysis tool Revit Architecture, the energy simulation tool Green Building Studio (GBS) and the LCA tool ATHENA Impact Estimator were used for the assessment. The LCA was carried out on a life case study of a 2100 m2 two-floor primary-school building, as well as a variability analysis, by varying the material specification in terms of whole building materials. The life cycle performance of the buildings was primarily evaluated in terms of its global warming potential (GWP) and health impact.The findings of the study show that irrespective of the materials used, buildings that are based on renewable energy perform better than those based on fossil fuels over their life cycle. The cause is due largely to atmospheric greenhouse activities. The anthropogenic emissions from fossil fuel have altered the compositional balance of carbon dioxide (an important greenhouse gas) in the atmosphere. The spread of climate change impact is wide and affect lands and peoples across national boundaries. Among the threatened are people who inhabit the vulnerable lands such as coastal barrier lands, troughs between highlands, marshlands, etc. For generations, the people who live by the coast of Cross River Estuary and the tributaries of Calabar, Imo and Great Kwa Rivers in Nigeria have practised their fishing occupation without serious hitches. This situation has changed of late due to uncertainties associated with unpredicted flooding attributed mainly to climate change. We evaluated the leading BIM design software products and concluded that none of them currently support construction waste minimization. This motivates the development of a plug-in for predicting and minimizing construction waste. After a rigorous literature review and conducting four focused group interviews (FGIs), 12 imperative BIM factors were identified that should be considered for predicting and designing out construction waste. These factors were categorized into four layers, namely the BIM core features layer, the BIM auxiliary features layer, the waste management criteria layer, and the application layer. Further, a process to carry out BIM-enabled building waste analysis (BWA) is proposed. We have also investigated the usage of big data technologies in the context of waste minimization. We highlight that big data technologies are inherently suitable for BIM due to their support of storing and processing large datasets. In particular, the use of graph-based representation, analysis, and visualization can be employed for advancing the state of the art in BIM technology for construction waste minimization.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":"6 1","pages":"211-228"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2015.1116415","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
