Based on a review of the literature, we identified pertinent papers and surgical textbooks regarding suture for wound closure using computerised and manual database searches. The essay explores those earliest known applications of suture by Edwin Smith surgical papyrus and after that the name suture comes from Latin term was first used by Hippocrates in 400 BC. He used linen as suture material. The development of sutures made of natural materials is traced chronologically up to the present, when synthetic sutures are used in an increasing number of daily surgeries. In this millennium, long history of sutures, the early work of Edwin smith, Hippocrates, Sushruta, Galen, Albucasis, Avicenna Celsus, Paré, and Lister is recognised. Because the science and history of sutures are not well-known to the majority of surgeons. Suture needs a holistic review to understand current research and progress on this widely used product.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115219057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to assess the steps in the safe administration of injections in a secondary setting in Uganda. A cross-sectional study design was the methodology adopted. Collected data with a non-participatory observational checklist, constructed using WHO - Revised Injection Safety assessment tool C. Permission from the Institutional Board and individual oral consent from nurses was obtained. Seventy-five procedures (intravenous, intradermal, intramuscular, and subcutaneous) were observed in four steps: prevention of infection, safety measures to prevent errors, promoting patient safety and comfort, and prevention of needle-stick injuries. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The intravenous injection was the most common procedure observed in this study. Nurses had moderate scores in the safe administration of injections. There was statistical significance seen between certain selected variables and steps of safe administration.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130290681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Depression and anxiety are the most common psychiatric disorders during pregnancy and the symptoms can range from mild to severe. The study aimed to identify the prevalence of depression and its associated risk factors among pregnant women. A descriptive cross-sectional research was conducted among 414 pregnant women attending antenatal clinic at BPKIHS through Systematic Random Sampling. Data were collected by interview technique using standardized and validated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression (EPDS) tool and Self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and binary logistic regression in SPSS version16. The prevalence of antenatal depression among the study population was 24.2 %. Antenatal depression was significantly associated with religion, gender of previous child, mode of previous delivery, fear of current pregnancy and complication, previous abortion, preferred sex of current child. Antenatal depression was 4 times more among the respondents having female child than male child (AOR= 4.135, CI: 1.146-14.924). Likewise, respondents who have the history of abortion were 4 times more likely to develop Antenatal depression (AOR=4.063, CI: 0.386-42.720). Similarly, respondents with the history of fear related to pregnancy complication were 3 times higher to develop Antenatal depression (AOR= 2.973, CI: 1.447-6.107).The study revealed that nearly 1/4th of the respondents had developed depression during antenatal period. Antenatal depression was higher among the respondents having the history of fear related to pregnancy, abortion and having previous male child. Therefore, screening pregnant women for depression during ANC visits and the provision of mental health education counseling services is recommended to mitigate the adverse health outcome of the problem.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133479875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to find out the comparison of the effectiveness of red ginger extract and ginger emprit against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study is an Experimental Laboratories study using true experimental design with the design of Post Test Only Control Group Design. Where extracts of red ginger and ginger emprit are obtained by the maceration method which is then varied into several concentration treatments namely 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% as well as positive control of ciprofloxacin and dmso negative control, followed by disc diffusion methods to test antibacterial activity, analyzed statistically using the One Way Anova test. The results showed that red ginger extract and ginger emprit were able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with weak to moderate activity. The final results showed a value of p<001 so that at least there was a meaningful average between the data groups of red ginger extract and ginger emprit. The conclusion of this study was that at a concentration of 100% red ginger extract was more effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with a bland zone of 17.83 mm compared to emprit ginger extract with a bland zone large of 17.16 mm. The advice we give that red ginger more quickly inhibits bacteria so it is very well consumed and becomes an alternative non-pharmacological treatment.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121155447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Iodine titration was utilized for determination of vitamin C in the different samples. Highest amount of vitamin C concentration was observed in Citrus sinensis was 95 mg / 100 ml whereas Citrus reticulate showed low levels 82 mg / 100 ml. The effect of temperature was highest in fresh lemon. In packed juices the same tendency was observed, though the content of vitamin C was found to be less than in fresh juices. Results revealed that; there is a loss of vitamin C content in citrus juice samples as much as the boiled juice Table1. The rate at which vitamin C is lost and depends on the temperature and time methods employed. It has been found out that the hot environment provides the conditions for fast decay of vitamin C content and room environment provides the conditions for slow decay of vitamin C content. In present analyzed samples values are different because of the fact that the composition of content vitamin c depends upon the environmental factors.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"800 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124267134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the clinical characteristics of these patients were not thoroughly studied. The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical characteristics of lung cancer patients treated with supportive care alone. We retrospectively analysed the rate of lung cancer patients receiving supportive care alone in 3 separate hospitals, along with the reasons for this practice. Additionally, we investigated the histological types, palliative treatment forms, hospital consultation outcomes and places of death. A total of 611 patients were diagnosed with lung cancer from April 2016 to March 2022. 80 (13%) were treated with supportive care alone. The primary reason underlying treatment with supportive care alone in almost half of the patients was poor performance. In general, 40% of the patients received supportive care and 17% were admitted to a palliative care unit. 17% of the patients died at home and 42% in the palliative care unit. This study has revealed that 13% of the lung cancer patients with cytologic diagnoses are treated with supportive care alone, due to poor performance. 40% of these patients received supportive care at home, showing that a more accessible home care system is required for the patients and their families.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132461259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHRLS) in the year 2015 was used. Adults aged 60 and over (n=8001) were included in the analytic sample. Socioeconomic status (SES) of the elderly was assessed by annual per capita consumption expenditure, education, and regional and rural/ urban status. Health status was measured by self-rated health, activities of daily living (ADL), the prevalence rate of chronic diseases and the 1-month prevalence rate; while health service was measured by the utilization of both outpatient service and inpatient service. Overall, the elderly with higher economic level had better health status and higher ADL disability rate, but lower prevalence rate of chronic diseases, 1-month outpatient visit rate and annual hospitalization rate. The elderly with lower education level had higher self-rated \"poor\" health, ADL disability rate, 1-month prevalence rate and 1-month non-visit rate. The elderly in eastern region or urban areas had better health status than those in central and western regions or rural areas. However, for health service utilization, the elderly in western region used both outpatient and inpatient services more frequently. The rural elderly had higher 1-month outpatient visit rate, while the urban elderly had higher annual hospitalization rate. Socioeconomic inequalities in health existed in Chinese elderly. To promote health equity among the elderly, the government should improve health insurance and medical assistance policies, optimize health resources allocation, and narrow economic gaps between western and eastern regions, and between rural and urban areas.","PeriodicalId":381001,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Nursing and Healthcare","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114276269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
