The DG technologies used are wind and solid-oxide fuel cell. They are sited on major transmission section of the network which will adversely affect the stability of the transmission network Hence, the focus of this study. The analyses therefore, cover the transient as well as dynamic behaviour of the network when a three-phase fault was introduced in the presence of DGs. The analyses show an increase in the peak-to-peak terminal voltage when DGs were connected. This study is essential for planning and operation of the system with DGs.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125558235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several indices have been proposed in the literature for estimating the severity of a particular contingency but mostly in the area of static security assessment. Therefore, in order to effectively capture the performance of a large power system under contingencies, dynamic security assessment (DSA) indices would be more desirable. In this paper, a score is presented with relatively less computational burden and used to determine the severity of a large disturbance in the power system for the purpose of contingency ranking. This score is formulated from the algebraic state variables that are related to the machines in a multi-machine power system modeled with differential algebraic equations (DAE). The proposed score is used with the angle stability criteria and applied on the IEEE 14-Bus test system in Matlab environment to determine the critical transmission lines in the system.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133648483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Essentially, CCSB are ill-prescribed computer use practices and general information security behaviors that go against the legitimate interests of an organization. While research on such issues is beginning to emerge in the developed West, information and perspectives from developing countries such as Nigeria is rare in the extant literature. This current study was designed to fill the gap in the literature by providing insights about employees' non-malicious, CCSB in Nigeria and Canada. Data for the study was collected from a field survey and secondary data sources. Relevant data analyses were performed. The results showed that employees' indulgence in CCSB differ by locations or contexts, and importantly socio-economic factors (i.e. national wealth (GDP), transparency, and literacy rates) and the cultural dimensions of individualism versus collectivism (EDV) and uncertainty avoidance (UAI) considered in this study were found to have significant bearings on participants' desire to indulge in CCSB at work. The implications of our findings to both research and practice were succinctly discussed.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133420917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

XML standards provide the base for web services. Most of `web service providers' are now publishing web-services on their own websites. Consumers who want to understand the functionality of a web service will need to see description of the web service in order to use it purposefully. There are two types of descriptions that are available with a web service, i.e. structural and non-structural. Web Service Description Language (WSDL) file contains the description of the web-service; the textual description is the documentation element in WSDL file. The description in the WSDL file is normally missing or less then IK words which make it hard for the consumer to understand it using the WSDL file. The proposed approach helps the consumer of a web service in understanding its functionality by finding the details present on the pages over World Wide Web using Google search and information filtering techniques.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117318443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The powering of telecommunications equipment is an enormous burden for the operators in Nigeria since it has the smallest per capita electricity consumption in the world. In this paper, the challenges faced by telecommunication service providers in powering their infrastructures are reviewed. The green energy options available for powering our telecommunication infrastructure in Nigeria are analyzed. The paper ends with a frame work on modalities to having safer and efficient power source for communication service delivery. It is anticipated that this paper will bring to light the plight of the public and telecommunication operators in sustaining good quality of service. It will also hasten the need to embrace alternative power supply that is clean and reliable in powering telecommunication base stations for better service delivery.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124599899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, there is a noticeable decline in the turnout rate of eligible voters, particularly the youth. This work proposes a novel mobile voting model that uses common-off-the-shelf (COTS) mobile phones, in conjunction with a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag technology and a pragmatic biometric verification scheme. The mobile voting application being proposed in this work is launched by leveraging the auto-coupling capability of NFC, which also serves for storing baseline information about voters. The auto-coupling feature mediates device familiarity requirement, which is a limiting factor for using mobile phones to administer elections satisfying transparency and ease of use. The baseline information stored in the NFC tag provides local biometric reference data that mediate intensive bandwidth consumption, computational requirement, provide for match-on-a-card features and satisfy the constraint that only the eligible voter may vote. This work notes all security requirements for this model and addresses some architecture, design and security issues that will arise if such a choice is made.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128024676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To guarantee QoS, routing protocols plays an important role. Several routing approaches are proposed. Taking into account adequately link quality in all the processes concerned by route choice is tricky. In this paper, we focus on Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol, a well known Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork routing protocol. Route selection process in OLSR protocol has many components. QoS selection approach must take into account efficiently all main components of this process. Unless many works interest to the improvement of MPR nodes selection mechanism and the estimate of shortest path with dijsktra algorithm according to various metrics, very few concern the quality of path for communications with the neighbors and second-neighbors. The shortest path calculation with dijsktra algorithm does not concern this neighborhood. In this work, in addition to taking into account link reliability in the Multi-Point Relay nodes selection process and shortest path computation, we consider the neighbors and second-neighbors (2-hops-neighbors) integration process into routing table. With our new approach, a node takes into account all route announcements and select the route with the lowest Bit Error Rate. Then, a node may use two or more hops path to communicate with its neighbors. This approach allows to improve significantly packet delivery ratio.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130534212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The educational system developed in the last century has moved from traditional system to e-learning on static web and recently to dynamic web. With the advent of social network on the Internet, interaction has been encouraged round the world and the method of connecting everyone in the world is now so easy. Although there are various platforms that exist as social network, few of them integrate learning functionalities as a service. This paper provides a social network platform to enhance educational learning. The social network was designed using Unified modeling Language (UML) and implemented using open source software primarily to connect students and lecturer. The system extends the integration in the classroom further and thus, makes the learning process effective.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131037871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the existing concurrency control techniques use locking mechanism to achieve concurrency control, which leads to transaction starvation and deadlock. On the other hand, the non-locking techniques (i.e. optimistic and timestamp ordering) are associated with high abortion rate and excessive transaction restart. This paper presents a lock-free hybrid concurrency control strategy that combines the features of optimistic and timestamp-ordering strategies. The technique allows mobile devices to freely read data items and allowed to pre-commit while in disconnection mode, and latter propagate the pre-committed data during reconnection for global commitment. A designed hybrid concurrency simulator (HCsim) was used to evaluate the performance of the new scheme using transaction abortion rate and response time as performance metrics. Simulation results have shown that lock-free hybrid strategy outperform both optimistic and timestamp strategies in terms of minimizing the transaction abortion rate and response time.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116974428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
