This paper then proposed a Reengineered DataCenter (R-DCN) architecture for efficient web application integration. In this regard, attempt was made to address network scalability, efficient and distributed routing, packets traffic control, and network security using analytical formulations and behavioural algorithms having considered some selected architectures. In this work a simulation experiment was carried out to study six key performance metrics for all the architectures. It was observed that the network throughput, fault-tolerance/network capacity, utilization, latency, service availability, scalability and clustering effects of R-DCN responses with respect to above Key Performance (KPIs) metrics were satisfactory when compared with BCube and DCell architectures. Future work will show a detailed validation using a cloud testbed and CloudSim Simulator.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121034573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Once software complexity is one of the most important attributes to determine software maintainability, controlling its level in the system evolution process makes the software easier to maintain, reducing the maintainability costs. Otherwise, uncontrolled complexity makes the maintenance and enhancement process lengthy, more costly and some times it can contribute to the system abandonment. This work investigates the evolution of complexity in discontinued FLOSS projects. After several analyses, the results showed that inactive FLOSS projects do not seem to be able to keep up with the extra work required to control the systems complexity, presenting a different behaviour of the successful active FLOSS projects.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128157373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regard, an ICT based framework for the evaluation is proposed, while the challenges that are likely to militate against the implementation of the proposed framework were highlighted with their proffered solutions. In this paper, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company was used as a case study to show that the proposed Independent Data Acquisition Center (IDAC) model will work provided the field data namely System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) are made available. The Independent Data Acquisition Center was simulated using vb.net leveraging on IEEE standard 1366-2012. Finally, this research is on-going with a focus on the development of an effective data capturing system for SAIDI and SAD7I. When fully integrated, the entire system would be of great help to individuals, respective companies and government domains for quick objective evaluation of the power distribution reliability in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115966872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wireless sensor networks may encounter unpredictable load when an event takes place. Congestion may occur when data packets arrive at node and there is no space in the buffer. Congestion may also occur when all sensors send the data at the same time. This causes wastage of limited energy, throughput reduction and loss and delay of packet. This paper presents a survey of traffic control and resource control mechanisms to control congestion in wireless sensor networks. It presents their significance, limitations and makes a comparison among them on the basis of various factors which would help in the future research and investigation in this particular area.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134234604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, increasing the critical clearing time (CCT) of faults before necessary actions are taken is of paramount importance to power system operators in order to maintain and enhance the dynamic security of the system. This paper takes an advantage of STATCOM device to increase the CCT of a multi-machine power system. The differential and algebraic equation model (DAE) of the system is used. The generator transient model (2-axis model) is also utilized with excitation and governor dynamic models. IEEE 14-bus test system is used in the analysis done in the MATLAB environment. The disturbance introduced is the loss of transmission line. The CCT of the system is determined without STATCOM in place and after which STATCOM is connected across the terminal buses of the critical line and the simulation carried out again. The critical clearing time was found to increase with STATCOM across either of the terminal buses of the critical transmission line.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115187387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several benefits that contact centers offers to organizations and their customers. Contact centers also boost foreign investments and help to create jobs. In order to achieve these benefits, the South African government has consistently offered support for contact center industry. Although there is enormous support from government, it is disappointing that contact centers in South Africa have not been able to deliver all the expected benefits even with the support from the government. This research aims to uncover the reasons why the South African contact centers are unable to meet expectations. This research also aims to find solution to the issues identified so as to help contact centers deliver expected level of service. In order to find ways in which contact centers in South Africa can improve their services and attract more foreign investments while creating more jobs at the same time, this research investigated both the South African contact center industry and Australian contact center industry. Findings from both South Africa and Australian contact center industries were compared to identify lessons which the South African contact centers can learn from their Australian counterparts so that the expected benefits from contact centers can be fully realized thereby helping the contact centers meet expectations. Based on the comparison, this paper provided recommendations for South African contact centers. Some important areas that require further research were also identified.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115621766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was assumed that the parameters of the response system are not available for measurement while the two systems are identical. The direct coupling of the sawtooth wave functions of the identical systems with appropriate tuning of the gain coefficients of the adaptive nonlinear controllers resulted to the antisychronized trajectories of the drive and response systems in two-dimension space. Simulation results show that the chaotic regimes achieved antisychrony while the error and parameter error systems asymptotically stabilized in finite time in the sense of Lyapunov.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127175954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to effectively combat this challenge, we thus report the development and implementation of a specially coded M-ary differential phase shift keying modulation scheme on narrowband PLC channel. The coding aspect involves the concatenation of conventional Reed Solomon (RS) code with cyclic permutation coding (CPC), resulting in what is termed RS-CPC scheme. The CPC employed in this work maps the output bits of a binary RS code onto non-binary CPC symbols, in a cyclic manner, with a view to improving the distance between two different sets of mapped symbols. For implementation over 230 V AC power line, software defined radio hardware, called the universal software radio peripherals (USRPs), were used, together with narrowband coupling circuits, to couple the signal to and receive it from the power line. Both by simulation and implementation, our scheme outperforms the conventional Reed Solomon-convolutional coding (RS-CC) specified in the G3-PLC standard. An added advantage is that our scheme is easier to implement.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125577979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such, for speedy development of any society the two have to be coupled, that is why research and internet cannot be separated. Due to the fact that the internet consists of an ever increasing interconnection of hundreds of millions of computers makes it frustrating to search for information. Even though search engines were invented to solve this problem, one needs to know how to query them in order to find the desired information in the shortest possible time. This is why it is necessary to develop a software that can optimize users query before passing it to a search engine in order to increase efficiency in search results. This paper reports in details how one of such software was successfully developed.","PeriodicalId":380601,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 6th International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125265472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
