We present the case of a 53-year old patient with no history of gynecological issues or associated comorbidities who presented to our clinic with recurrent vaginal bleeding during menopause. We want to emphasize the importance of diagnostic management, going through all the necessary steps from local gynecological examination to vaginal biopsy, optimizing results with advanced imaging techniques. Once the histopathological diagnosis of vaginal leiomyosarcoma was established, the therapeutic approach was discussed within a multidisciplinary committee consisting of a gynecologist, surgeon, and oncologist. As a result, the patient underwent tailored surgical intervention relatively quickly after presentation, followed by referral to the oncology department, where she is currently undergoing her third course of adjuvant chemotherapy. Our current objective is the long-term follow-up of the patient and the acquisition of data regarding her survival and quality of life. These facts may contribute in the future to the implementation of standardized therapeutic guidelines for such a rare condition","PeriodicalId":380281,"journal":{"name":"Medicina Moderna - Modern Medicine","volume":"78 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139008125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The level of serum AGEs increases with diabetes or a state of hyperglycemia. Increased AGEs in patients with diabetes mellitus can increase the risk of macrovascular and microvascular complications and increase the formation of hs-CRP. This study aims to assess the differences in AGEs and hs-CRP between type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with and without complications and the relationship between AGEs and hs-CRP. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 30 subjects of type 2 diabetes mellitus with complications and 30 subjects of diabetes mellitus without complications. Data were collected from September to December 2022. AGEs were measured using ELISA and hs-CRP using the turbidimetric method. Data were statistically processed to determine the difference and relationship between AGEs and hs-CRP. Results: AGEs and hs-CRP values in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with complications were 0.671±0.194 ng/ mL and 2.08(0.98-15.3) mg/L. In patients with uncomplicated type 2 diabetes 0.561±0.127 ng/mL and 1.69(0.22-9.25) mg/L. Differences in AGEs and hs-CRP between the two subject groups had significant results (AGEs p=0.012, hs-CRP p=0.038). The relationship between AGEs and hs-CRP in each subject group showed no significant results (With complications r=0.659 p=0.659, Without complications r=0.253 p=0.253). Conclusion: There are differences in AGEs and hs-CRP values between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with and without complications and there is no relationship between AGEs and hs-CRP values in each subject.","PeriodicalId":380281,"journal":{"name":"Medicina Moderna - Modern Medicine","volume":"1770 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127455145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The posterior erosion of the ulcer through the omental bursa in the retroperitoneal space determines local inflammation which, together with the fibrosis of the retroperitoneal tissue facilitates the enclosure of the gastric content. We present the case of a 49-year old patient investigated for pain in the upper abdomen. The endoscopy performed one month before the admission described a retractile area with a central ulcer on the posterior surface of the stomach, adjacent to the lesser curvature. Given the fact that the abdominal x-ray was normal, a CT scan was performed and a voluminous retroperitoneal cystic lesion was discovered. Combining all the preoperative informations the diagnosis was of retroperitoneal abscess by posterior perforation of a gastric ulcer. Surgical intervention was performed, the abscess was evacuated and it’s wall was completely resected; because of local conditions a distal hemigastrectomy with Roux en Y gastro-enteroanastomosis was chosen over gastrorhaphy and omentoplasty.","PeriodicalId":380281,"journal":{"name":"Medicina Moderna - Modern Medicine","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134501117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to assess the CV profile of the SCZ inpatients from Psychiatry Clinic I and II of Cluj-Napoca between 2018-2019. Methods: The following indicators were documented from interview and laboratory data: arterial hypertension (AHT), smoking, dyslipidemia, obesity, metabolic syndrome (MS), medication adherence (MA), Framingham score (FS), and CV diagnosis (CVd). The sample was separated into two groups based on FS and CV diagnosis: high-risk/CVd and medium/low-risk. Results: 50 SCZ patients were included in the study. 58% had AHT and 10% were prediagnosed, 90% had lipids perturbations of which 26.7% were prediagnosed, 66 % met the criteria for MS from which one prediagnosis, 12% had a CVd and the average FS was 12.7% corresponding to intermediate risk category. MA subjects had a lower risk to be in the high risk/CVd group (OR=1/0.22, p=0.02) and no association was found for the gender-CV risk categories (p=0.08). Conclusion: 1. The known CV risk factors are underdiagnosed in SCZ patients 2. SCZ might attenuate the gender CV risk stratification; and 3. MA might decrease the CV risk in SCZ.","PeriodicalId":380281,"journal":{"name":"Medicina Moderna - Modern Medicine","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134623357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aimed to evaluate the morphological effects of the use of creatine monohydrate on the soleus muscle tissue of 26-month-old Wistar rats. Methods: Twelve Wistar rats were divided into two groups of six animals each. Group 1 was not supplemented with creatine and received a standard diet consisting of water and food. Group 2 received the same diet, but was supplemented with creatine monohydrate at a dose of 0.03 mg/kg of body weight diluted in 200 ml of drinking water for 8 weeks. Results: The supplementation promoted morphological and morphometric effects on the soleus muscle tissue, promoting changes in the perimeter and area of the muscles of the animals treated with the supplement. It is estimated that this supplement may promote, in addition to increasing the cross-sectional area of myocytes, increased stimulation of the protein synthesis pathway associated with PI3K/AKT.","PeriodicalId":380281,"journal":{"name":"Medicina Moderna - Modern Medicine","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127600500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Myopia is an impact on academic achievement, and blindness, and increases the economic burden. The research objective was to analyze the prevalence of myopia and its relationship with demographic characteristics (age and gender) in school-age children. This study was a cross-sectional design. The respondents were male (M), female (F), and school-age children (aged 6-19 years). The total subjects were 1171 school students, Elementary Schools (n=661; M=326, F=335), Junior High Schools (n=307; M=138, F=169), and High Schools (n=203; M=84, F=119). Data analysis was descriptive and chi-square tests (p<0.05). We found that the prevalence of myopia in school-age children was 14.61%. The highest rate of myopia is at the age of 19 years, girls (15.73%) more than boys (13.32%), in the late adolescent group (23.53%) more than the early adolescent group (18.75%), and childhood age (9.32%). Myopia in high school-age children (23.15%) was more than in junior high school students (20.85%), and elementary school students (9.07%). There was a relationship between age (p<0.001*), age group (p<0.001*), and school level (p<0.001*), but otherwise, there was no association between gender (p=0.24) with myopia in school-age children. In conclusion: myopia prevalence is highest at the age of 19 years, a group of late teens, high school, and females more than males. Myopia is associated with age among Acehnese school children (6-19 years) in Indonesian, so that’s why we recommend performing visual acuity tests routinely.","PeriodicalId":380281,"journal":{"name":"Medicina Moderna - Modern Medicine","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131410084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
