Oral physicians are often sought to manage the oral symptoms or know if the oral disease poses a risk of oral cancer or cross-infection in the clinics. Recent studies indicate an increased prevalence of oral habits-related lesions in India. Gingival enlargement has been associated with a variety of factors, including medications, inflammation and systemic disorders. Recent periodontal studies have suggested a mild to moderate association between periodontal disease and thyroid disorders due to altered gingival microcirculation compromising the first line of defence which may result in gingival hyperplasia. This case report is an unusual presentation of gingival fibromatosis in a 20 year old girl. The gingival hyperplasia and associated clinical features alerted us to the possibility of altered functioning of the thyroid gland. Subsequent investigations revealed subclinical hypothyroidism. Early interception of malocclusion either involves full arch or a segment of arch to be treated for malocclusion; and when a segment is used, it is calculated as ‘Segmental Orthodontics’. It’s a simplified approach in interceptive orthodontics as it involves only a segment of few teeth which is more children friendly. The present case report displays derotation of maxillary central incisors in a male child with simplified segmental orthodontics in mixed dentition period. The results obtained were satisfactory and rapid. Patients with maxillofacial defects often suffer from disturbed psychological status and are often treated as stigma to the society. Prosthodontists have a key role in restoring aesthetics and occlusion of such patients which ultimately aids improve the psychological status and quality of life of such patients. The prosthetic rehabilitation on compromised tissue beds requires meticulous treatment planning and precise execution. Short-listing treatment options become an enigma if conventional approaches for maxillofacial rehabilitation are contraindicated. Muralidhar, Buggaveeti Pradeep","doi":"10.18231/j.jdp.2021.036","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18231/j.jdp.2021.036","url":null,"abstract":"To evaluate the Smear layer generated by three rotary instrumentation techniques Thirty single-rooted freshly extracted teeth were selected for this study, teeth were decoronated at the level of CEJ (Cemento enamel junction) and were divided into three groups for cleaning and shaping of root canals, group I (protaper gold) group II (M two) group III (Hyflex EDM) After splitting the roots longitudinally, the Smear layer generated by each instrument for each root canal was evaluated using a scanning electron microscope and the data obtained was statistically analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test. Instrumentation with Protaper gold (Group 1) showed the maximum amount of Smear layer generation followed by Hyflex EDM (Group 3) files and VDW Mtwo (Group 2) showed the least values of Smear layer generation. For evaluation of colour stability, samples were evaluated for baseline color value using a spectrophotometer. Later, color measurements were taken after 1 week immersion in Green Tea by spectrophotometer and color change values were calculated. Statistical analyses were executed by one-way ANOVA and Scheffe’s post hoc procedure.All materials showed significant color change after 1 week (P < 0.05) of immersion in Green Tea, with the lowest color alteration observed at the 1st day and the highest observed after the 7th day.
