Telecommunications are used in doctor-patient interactions in telemedicine. It is a new way of delivering healthcare services across geographical boundaries, and it's being utilised to make healthcare services more accessible to those who don't have access to such services in their residential areas. The study was done to assess awareness and acceptance of teleconsultation among public. A total of 200 samples were selected for this study from Vaikom Taluk in Kottayam district. Convenient sampling procedure was used for this method. People who contacted doctors for their treatment during COVID-19 were included in the study. The participants were briefed about the study and informed consent was obtained from them. The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions. The questions were asked to assess awareness and acceptance of teleconsultation.The study concluded that most of the participants are aware about teleconsultation and accepted this technology as treatment procedure.","PeriodicalId":379783,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Dental Panacea","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115073543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a rapidly growing field and the surgeon must have thorough knowledge of the current literature and also of the advancements so as to perform the laser surgical procedures efficiently and effectively. The surgeon must also be aware of the benefits, safety and hazards of the lasers and must follow the safety guidelines. Advances in the laser systems make the procedures easier to perform. Incorporating the lasers in the oral and maxillofacial surgery practice has led to improvement in the patient care. In this article, we have summarized the application of lasers in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery by review of literatures.","PeriodicalId":379783,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Dental Panacea","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131081267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taniguchi was the first to use the term nanotechnology in 1974, originating from a Greek word meaning “dwarf”. Nanotechnology when combined with dentistry and medicine created an interdisciplinary field i.e., nanodentistry and nanomedicine and this combination gets engineers, chemists, physicians on a single platform having various applications in detection, imaging and drug delivery devices.With respect to orthodontics, the nanoparticle coated archwires, adhesives, temporary anchorage devices, brackets, orthodontic wires with shape memory and biofilm control features have been applied. Silver nanoparticles are combined with different accessory orthodontic materials which results in the addition of more antimicrobial properties which inturn decreases the biofilm formation and maintain better oral health. Antibacterial effectiveness of nanosilver coated materials has been shown with and without the release of nanosilver ions in in vitro studies. In addition, long-term inhibitory effects against S.mutans have been found while no nanosilver ions were released. 30 MBT 0.022’’ monocrystalline ceramic brackets and 30 MBT 0.022’’ polycrystalline ceramic brackets (Metro Orthodontics) which are randomly divided into 4 groups: 2 control groups (group-1=15 uncoated monocrystalline and group-2=15 uncoated polycrystalline) and 2 experimental groups (group-3=15 silver oxide coated monocrystalline and group-4=15 silver oxide coated polycrystalline). S.mutans counts were significantly less in the experimental groups than control groups. Silver oxide coatings on ceramic brackets reduced the colony forming units of S. mutans. Both monocrystalline and polycrystalline coated brackets showed reduced number of colony forming units than their control groups.","PeriodicalId":379783,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Dental Panacea","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122552106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The trial was designed as a randomized controlled clinical trial with a sample size of total of 100 with 1:1 gender ratio. Test group taken were patients with chronic periodontitis with prediabetes and Control group were patients with periodontitis without prediabetes. Body mass index (BMI), Periodontal Probing Depth (PPD),Bleeding on probing (BOP),Clinical Attachment Loss(CAL) using UNC colour coded periodontal probe were recorded. The microbial load in pre-diabetes patients was assessed using samples collected from the periodontal pockets ≤5mm. Fasting Blood sugar (FBS), Post Prandial blood sugar (PPBS), Fasting Insulin were recorded at baseline, 6 weeks,12 weeks and after Non-surgical periodontal therapy (SRP) after taking consent from the patient. The data collected were entered into Microsoft excel 2018. Statistical analysis was done using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 27.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp. Descriptive analyses were done. Student’s t-test, repeated measures of ANOVA were used for determination of the significance of HOMA-IR, HOMA- β mean differences between and within the groups. In both test and control groups, there was a significant difference (p<0.0001) in probing depth, CAL, gingival bleeding index from baseline to the post treatment (NSPT) till 12 week period. When these clinical parameters were evaluated and correlated with HOMA-IR, HOMA-β, BMI, FBS, post prandial blood sugar at regular intervals, significant (p<0.0001) decrease in HOMA-IR, HOMA-β, BMR, post prandial blood sugar was observed in test group when compared to control group. There is a significant association between prediabetes state and periodontitis. Early diagnosis of periodontitis and a proper treatment in prediabetic group can prevent the progression of prediabetic condition to diabetes and vise versa.","PeriodicalId":379783,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Dental Panacea","volume":"731 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114393580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cross sectional study was designed to evaluate the possible association between clinical periodontal disease status and glycemic levels in diabetes patients (T2DM) among the population of city Hyderabad, INDIA. A total of 200 individuals were examined and out of which 179 were enrolled fulfilling the selection criteria were initially given a health questionnaire to gather information regarding their demographic data, oral hygiene practices. Based on Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels, they were grouped into: Good, Moderately and Poorly controlled Type 2 Diabetic patients. Oral hygiene index-simplified, CPI and clinical attachment level (CAL), Tooth mobility and Tooth loss due to mobility were evaluated. Nearly Half the individuals have good glycemic control. (47.5% are <121mg/dl), 29.1% have moderately controlled (<121-180mg/dl), 23.5% have poorly controlled (<181-240mg/dl) plasma sugar levels. Average Patients showed 5-10 years of diabetic history with 121- 180mg/dl fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels. Average participants had fair OHI-S scores. Patients with Good FPS levels showed fair oral hygiene status. Community periodontal index (CPI) scores showed (14.52%) Gingivitis, (20.11%) mild, (8.93%) moderate, (2.79%) severe periodontitis patients with good controlled FPS Levels. Average CAL values ranged between 3-5mm in good to moderately controlled FPS levels. Tooth mobility and tooth loss is less in over all participants. Patients with high plasma sugar levels were more susceptible for severe periodontal disease. CPI values and mobility of teeth was less in subjects with FPG<126mg/dl. With Loss of attachment up to 5mm was observed. Both Periodontist and Diabetologist individually and together should improve awareness regarding periodontal health and diabetic control.","PeriodicalId":379783,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Dental Panacea","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125459871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
