With such traces and a description of the environment in which the algorithm was executed, the algorithm can be reconstructed. In the first phase, decomputation of the results which appear in the snapshots is performed. Decomputation is the process which produces, for each result in the trace, the set of possible instructions which could have been its cause. The construction phase then uses static and dynamic information obtained from the trace to aid in synthesizing the algorithm. A number of experiments which have been performed with system are also described.","PeriodicalId":379505,"journal":{"name":"ACM '76","volume":"518 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115350587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The precompiler recognizes statements in a simple problem-oriented language, generating corresponding computer instructions and subprograms. These are used to define the problem and select the solution algorithms from a software library. To illustrate this approach, a simple Fortran precompiler has been implemented for the Univac which accepts mathematical programming commands (e.g. MINIMIZE:, SUBJECT TO:, etc.) and allows certain standard algorithms to be invoked. In order for this mathematical programming system to be genuinely easy to use, the required gradients and Hessians are approximated by accurate Richardson extrapolated difference schemes.","PeriodicalId":379505,"journal":{"name":"ACM '76","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123208632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed storage structure, keywords are defined on domains (other than primary key domains) and used to divide the file into disjoint subsets called Boolean atoms. Tuples in each Boolean atom are stored contiguously and identifiers for each atom are stored in a directory. The actual construction of the atom directory and the storage of the tuples are presented with an example. Procedures for processing queries against the proposed structure are illustrated using sample queries from SQUARE (1). A modification of the structure to accommodate ranges of values as keywords is also indicated.","PeriodicalId":379505,"journal":{"name":"ACM '76","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121402358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
