Our research attempts to quantify workload in a natural driving scenario with multiple parallel tasks using fNIRS. Nine young adults participated in this study where they drove in a driving simulator for a period of 100 minutes while we continuously recorded fNIRS data. We used an n-back task to induce different workload levels forcing the participants to remember the previous one, two, three or four speed signs and adjust their speed accordingly while they interact with traffic in the virtual reality driving simulator scenario. Our results indicate that measuring the hemodynamic responses from the bilateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) can be used reliably to quantify cognitive workload levels even in more complex naturalistic tasks.","PeriodicalId":377891,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129786552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The learner's engagement in language-learning dialogues is strengthened by the robot's non-verbal behaviour such as nodding, gesturing and face-tracking, and the learner's level of interest can be estimated by monitoring the learner's non-verbal signals through gaze-tracking and proximity measurement. In this paper we discuss new approaches in which robotassisted language learning is further enhanced by the use of CogInfoCom channels to extend the learner's engagement and interest. We focus on the robot's use of Wikipedia-based information access to greatly extend the range of topics that the robot can talk about during language-learning spoken dialogues, and describe natural language processing techniques to generate questions from Wikipedia information, so the robot can ask new questions about the learner's preferred topics. We predict that the learner's interest level is increased when the learner can navigate in Wikipedia to dialogue topics of personal interest rather than being restricted to topics chosen by the teacher.","PeriodicalId":377891,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129065606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of them aim to help people to drive more economically and safely. Especially safety related applications require high quality connections for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications. Currently, ITS-G5 (IEEE 802.11p) can be considered as the most mature standard for vehicular networks. But also the suitability of alternative technologies is being researched, of which Long-Term Evolution (LTE) is among the promising standards for vehicular communication. We made comprehensive measurements for ITS-G5 in various scenarios to see the link performance and reliability in a real-world road environment. For comparison, we also made measurements with LTE. As expected, latest IEEE 802.11p devices have very good performance in terms of delay and line-of-sight range. However, due to the high frequency, the physical obstacles on the link path can be problematic for the signal propagation. LTE could be an interesting solution for vehicular networks, as the range and throughput is larger than with IEEE 802.11p. However, LTE needs a more detailed specification of vehicular communication, and for the most time-critical applications the delays can also be too high.","PeriodicalId":377891,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125133377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Changes and processes in the field of information technology and telecommunications are fast, wide spread and revolutionary, even aggressive. This analysis is based upon the experiments and data of Service Centre of Széchenyi University. The key findings of this paper is the conclusion that for the higher education institution is vital for applying infocommunication tools for reaching the cognitive entities, the young generations. The paper focuses on the development of communication channels, online communication and social media, furthermore tends to give an overall picture of the rapidly growing role of social media as a tool among Hungarian higher institutions. The financial position of institutions depends more and more on customer behaviour. Customer behaviour has an influence on the higher education market; it has an effect on the choice of institution and also on future target groups. So it is significant for these institutions to pay attention to consumer expectations and communicate effectively with their consumers, using the latest and the most advanced information communication technologies. It is particularly important because the universities' target groups are mostly the Y and Z generations into whose everyday activities modern info communication technologies are embedded. In the frame of our paper we give an overview of the trends and long term features - such as digitalization, info-communication, and social media - on marketing communication tools at Széchenyi University. The case study shows the multifaceted nature of the problem, the range of possible tools and their application. Due to the labour market needs Széchenyi István University strengthens relations with the business sector and broadens the range of teaching and research services provided by them. In the case study we can follow the development of communication channels/instruments; the digital evolution and the phenomenon that the social web has become the most important (strategic) platform for communicating with the young generations; overall trends in interactive communication and online communities, and the emergence of interactive channels; social media, networks and online videos. The universities have to employ professionals with social media skills and they have to create communicating strategies for different generations. We have a real case about how younger \"always online\" communication professionals formulate the core requirements; and how we can integrate the communication centre with the newest info communication tools, such as mobile communication: applications. We can conclude that as the World Wide Web becomes more and more influential, so","PeriodicalId":377891,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114295867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research was based on studies carried out over several years in which speeds were measured on two-lane rural roads (speed limit 90 km/h) and main network roads with suburban characteristic (similar to roads in small towns with various intensity of residential and commercial development along roads and a speed limit 50/60 km/h) in Poland. This paper shows results of comparisons made between free-flow speeds recorded during the day and night. These analyses showed that the worsening of perception of the road and its surroundings at night leads to speed reduction on two-lane rural roads. However, an opposite average effect of a speed increase by 1-4 km/h was observed on suburban roads at night (at specific sites the speed increase reached even 15 km/h). Limitation of the road observation area at night on poorly lit or unlit roads causes the influence of the road surroundings on the speed choice to decrease. Speeds observed during the day in a free-flow traffic tend to be very variable when compared with the estimated average value from the 24h. Such an effect should be taken into account when determining the appropriate speed to road design.","PeriodicalId":377891,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114465529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because we want to obtain results nearer as possible to those of humans, the components of the model are developed based on suggested evidence from cognitive sciences and neurosciences. This model could be implemented in virtual creatures to induce behaviors, as we show in a simulation where the motivational part is implemented with the proposed model; it interacts with a more general agent model that abstracts higher-level cognitive functions. In the virtual scenario, characters are performing different physical activities, leading to two expected behaviors: a. Physical activities increment hunger depending on variable values of energy expenditure associated with each activity; and b. Hunger triggers a food-intake action. The results of the implementation show that the model responds as expected, and if more diverse activities are integrated (besides food-intake) we could have a more diverse behavior of looking for food. We believe that this model could be integrated with other models developed with the same approach, specifically for the part of higher-level cognitive functions, in order to obtain more specific behaviors, and therefore, a more realistic simulation.","PeriodicalId":377891,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"16 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114086080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
