We present how to formally obtain ontologies from concept maps. Concept maps are a flexible and informal form of knowledge representation, while ontologies are oriented to processing carried out by machines. The mapping between concept maps and ontologies is a formal transformation, which semantically analyzes the relations linking the concepts in the map. The proposed method has been applied to an environmental domain, through tests on several concept maps.","PeriodicalId":377538,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Complex, Intelligent and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"409 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116242452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bayesian probabilities encode degrees of belief about certain events and a dynamic knowledge body is used to strengthen, update, or weaken these assumptions. The creation of Bayesian networks requires at least three challenging tasks: (i) the determination of relevant influence factors, (ii) the determination of relationships between the identified influence factors, and (iii) the calculation of the conditional probability tables for each node in the Bayesian network.Based on existing domain ontologies, we propose a method for the ontology-based generation of Bayesian networks. The ontology is used to provide the necessary knowledge about relevant influence factors, their relationships, their weights, and the scale which represents potential states of the identified influence factors.The developed method enables, based on existing ontologies, the semi-automatic generation and alternation of Bayesian networks.","PeriodicalId":377538,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Complex, Intelligent and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"169 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131998679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reconfigurable computing has also received a great deal of attention due to its ability to increase the performance of an application through hardware execution, while retaining the flexibility of a software solution. Grouping tasks within an application contributes to coarse-grained partitioning, which can eventually improve the performance of the system. In this paper, we introduce a clustering framework along with a flexible multi-purpose clustering algorithm that initiates task clustering at the functional level based on dynamic profiling information. The clustering framework can be used as the basic step to modify the granularity of tasks in the hardware/software partitioning and scheduling phases. As a result, an elaborate mapping onto the system resources and possibly a higher degree of task parallelism becomes feasible. The framework particularly targets two objectives, 1) to form workload-balanced and 2) loosely-coupled clusters. We evaluated its efficiency using MJPEG as a case study. The experimental results comply with the desired clustering metrics defined through the objectives.","PeriodicalId":377538,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Complex, Intelligent and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127830793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this system, fine still images of lecture scenes, containing the lecturer, the blackboard, and the presentation screen, are periodically taken by a commercial digital photo camera, and the lecturer voice is recorded into a digital file by a personal computer during a class. Then, the digital picture-card show to play back the lecture scenes is edited by selecting one image and the voice file section corresponding to one lecture scene that is defined as the time span of teaching one slide page by the lecturer. The picture-card show is delivered to students through the World-Wide Web system on demand. In this paper, we propose the structured learning assistance function for this lecture-scene playback system, so that students can study important technical concepts in the lecture structurally. This function classifies the lecture scenes corresponding to one concept into five structures, and generates the links between them automatically. Through applications to one course for freshmen in our department, we show the effectiveness of our proposal.","PeriodicalId":377538,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Complex, Intelligent and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114770351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
