In this species male reproductive organs conceal the stigma – seat of pollen reception during male phase therefore acts as barrier for self-pollination. In addition the stigma become receptive only after the androecium of the same flower is shed and then receptive stigma become exposed. This unique type of dichogamy and arrangement of essential organs are contrivance for cross-pollination in the species. The large showy flowers, production of large quantities of nectar, protandry, presence of nectar guides, ornamented exine sculpturing, high pollen to ovule ratio points towards cross-pollinated mode of reproduction is operative in this species. This was also established by breeding experiments. Our study may prove useful in conservation of this Himalayan endemic plant species and also useful in understanding the evolution of breeding system in the genus.","PeriodicalId":37724,"journal":{"name":"Botanica Pacifica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67436470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spilonema paradoxum Bornet is recorded for the first time in Asia; five species, Ephebe perspinulosa Nyl., Heppia lutosa (Ach.) Nyl., Koerberia biformis A. Massal., Peccania coralloides (A. Massal.) A. Massal., and Thallinocarpon nigritellum (Letau) P.M. Jørg., are new for the Russian Far East; Polychidium muscicola (Sw.) Gray is first found in the Magadan Region, and the two species, Euopsis granatina (Sommerf.) Nyl. and Spilonema revertens Nyl., are rare lichens in this region. The geographical distribution patterns and ecology of these species are discussed. Findings in the north of the Russian Far East of such lichens as Heppia lutosa, Koerberia biformis, Peccania coralloides, and Thallinocarpon nigritellum are the most interesting and unexpected in the phytogeographical respect. All of them are relic elements in the flora of the Magadan Region.","PeriodicalId":37724,"journal":{"name":"Botanica Pacifica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67438539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Palaeobotanical data for this time-interval were obtained on 28 palynofloras from the Sardakhskaya Formation in the coastal cliffs of the Sardakh-Sisse Island (Lena River Delta). In this first integrative study we apply the Coexistence Approach (CA) for quantification of palaeoclimate, the Plant Functional Types (PFT) approach and Integrated Plant Record (IPR) vegetation analysis for quantification of palaeovegetation. Our investigation documents the persistence of temperate climate with two warmer and colder phases. Moreover, our reconstructions show significantly higher mean values of all temperature parameters in comparison to previous estimations. Overall hu mid climate conditions (up to 1500 mm) prevailed throughout the early Pliocene correspond to an oceanic climate. Our reconstruction indicates relatively strong temperature and precipitation seasonality. Our data for vegetation show more open vegetation in comparison to previous studies reconstructing mixed conifer- deciduous forests for the early Pliocene of Northeast of Russia. Based on PFT, the early Pliocene vegetation of northern Yakutia in Lena River Delta mainly was presented by more or less open mixed deciduous woodlands of warmer or colder temperate type. The results obtained from the PFT approach generally are in ac cordance with our data obtained from IPR approach. However, based on IPR, periodically forests and grasslands were obtained in addition to open woodlands.","PeriodicalId":37724,"journal":{"name":"Botanica Pacifica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67438564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By the plate method, 269 isolates were obtained using solid nutrient media and 31 species from 12 genera were identified based on phenotypic as well as molecular genetic traits (using ITS and beta-tubulin markers) in cases where identification based on morphological features alone was difficult. The structure of the species composition was analyzed and the list of species was given. The analysis showed that facultative marine fungi were the vast majority of the species diversity, namely Penicillium, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Monodictys, Sarocladium, Trichoderma, Fusarium, Arthrinium, Botrytis and Aspergillus species. Among obligate marine fungi, Paradendryphiella and Piricauda species were revealed by the method mentioned above. Also, taxonomic affiliation and phylogenetic position of some Penicillium representatives have been clarified.","PeriodicalId":37724,"journal":{"name":"Botanica Pacifica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67438812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigation is mainly focused to analyze the toxicity of two commonly used synthetic food colorants (Brilliant blue and Fast green) with the help of Allium cepa root tip assay. The frequency of aberrations and the concentrations of both the colorants were found to be positively correlated in the chromosome studies. The integrity of the cell membranes, which is a potent parameter to detect cellular damage was detected using Evan’s blue staining. 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) method was also adopted to determine the damaging effects of the synthetic molecules on the mitochondrial oxidative properties in the root tip cells. Both food colorants showed prominent membrane damage and mitochondrial activity reduction in the test material.","PeriodicalId":37724,"journal":{"name":"Botanica Pacifica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67438027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
