The antenna design to achieve the dual-frequency band is carried out by using the annular plate with curved and rectangular slots. The simulation is done by using CST based on the Finite Integral Method. Furthermore, the parameters of antenna are optimized with the Quasi Newton method. The effects of antenna parameters are analyzed. Along the UHF-RFID band, the pattern is unidirectional beam. The half-power beamwidths in xz- and yz- planes are 78 and 64 degrees, respectively. The bandwidth covers 911–925.6 MHz. The directivity is 8.33 dBi. For 2.45 GHz band, the pattern is also unidirectional beam. The half-power beamwidths in xz- and yz-planes are 58 and 21 degrees, respectively. The bandwidth covers 2.32–2.52 GHz. In this paper some considerations on the characterization and optimization of a RA are presented. The results of the use of efficient approaches for the modeling of the planar RA or of its elementary components are introduced: all of them tend to improve the numerical efficiency of the optimization procedure, without losing in accuracy. Unfortunately, size reduction results in degradation in both efficiency and bandwidth, as is well known from the fundamental limits on small antennas [1]. This paper firstly introduces a MATLAB-controlled NEC2 simulation tool with genetic algorithm optimization, and uses this to find the optimal position of inductors for a shortened monopole with L-section matching networks. Trade-offs between bandwidth and efficiency are investigated and demonstrated in a systematic fashion for a single inductor case. Various multi-inductor loading schemes are also investigated; including central symmetrically distributed and arbitrarily distributed two-inductor loading schemes.
