Doctors and therapists determine whether a patient is ready for weaning of mechanical ventilation based on vitals and various medical test results. This study explores deep learning methods applied to prediction of mechanical ventilator weaning outcome using multiple physiological parameters. Our experiments showed a validation accuracy of 0.682 with limited samples and less features compared to similar studies. We expect to see improved performance with more data and features collected.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128278310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For teachers, it is a challenge to attract students’ attention during online classes. In addition, teachers have difficulty knowing if students are concentrated during online classes, and teachers cannot adjust their teaching pace based on students’ reactions. In this work, we propose a concentration judgment system to facilitate online teaching. The designed system consists of five modules. The first four modules measure distance, judge posture, detect blink, and detect face position of students, respectively. Then, based on the collected information, the last module adopts fuzzy logic to calculate the concentration levels of students. We also design a screen similarity detection module to monitor if students really focus on the teaching content. Moreover, in this work, we verify our design by a real implementation. The prototyping system contains a web back-end and a graphic user interface (GUI) for teachers to monitor students’ status in real-time.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133532319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmitter modulates data signals on the signage image, and the receiver detects and demodulates the data signals from the captured images. In the conventional studies, the detection and demodulation of the data signals are processed independently. In this study, we propose a novel algorithm that simultaneously processes data signal detection and demodulation by applying object detection DNN (Deep Neural Network). Using simplified simulated received images, we investigate and evaluate data signal formats suitable for the detection and demodulation using the object detection DNN. The numerical results show that square-shaped data signal formats achieve better performance than elongated formats, and the arrangement of data cells affects the performance more than the type of detection marker lines.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116595398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna’s radiation unit features a novel form of four-triangle shaped patch, and it is constructed using a single-layer dielectric plate fed through a coaxial line. By increasing the antenna’s effective radiated area, the patch unit’s design significantly improves the antenna’s gain, which now stands at 11.29dBi. A 12 element array antenna with a gain of 20.26dBi and an antenna size of 30 mm $times$ 36 mm was designed and processed based on the four-triangle structure as the patch unit. Its size is 38 percent less than conventional dual-corner fed rectangular patch arrays [4]. Tests and analysis demonstrated the design’s viability.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124987206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the OFDM system has the problem of high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). With the proper linear precoding for the OFDM system, we can obtain the Single-Carrier block transmission system (SCBT), which does not have the problem of PAPR. Furthermore, the SCBT system has the advantage of multipath diversity. The received SCBT signal can be transformed into frequency domain (FD) for equalization, followed by the time-domain (TD) detection. However, we can further improve the detection of the equalized TD signal. Some methods based on decision feedback have been proposed to attain better detection. In this paper, we apply the gradient search algorithm (GSA) in the equalized TD signal to reduce the error rates. The GSA is based on differential metrics (DM), and it was first proposed for the detection of the multiple antenna system. Now we apply the GSA algorithm and propose several searching procedures that can achieve lower error rates for the SCBT system. The simulation shows that the GSA can efficiently improve the performance of error rates for the detection of SCBT signals. The proposed method also achieves a trade-off between error performance and complexity.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130389936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, the impressive performance of deep learning models is often followed by a significant drawback: their high computational complexity. This limitation poses a challenge when deploying these models on resource-constrained devices like Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In this paper, we implement and demonstrate the concept of modularity into Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to reduce the redundant operations and minimize the loss of its performance.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127519778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We may interpret the LDS-CDMA scheme as a combination of several dependent GDMA systems, where a GDMA system is applied to each resource. The original message passing for LDS-CDMA may also be interpreted as the message passing among various GDMA systems to employ the dependency. We extend the interpretation to construct high-density (HDS) CDMA schemes. The advantage of HDS-CDMA schemes can be the requirement of a smaller number of resources or better error performances.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129952818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the training process, the client and server must continuously upload and receive model parameters, which consumes a lot of network transmission resources. Some methods use clustering to find more representative customers, select only a part of them for training, and at the same time ensure the accuracy of training. However, in federated learning, it is not trivial to know what the number of clusters can bring the best training result. Therefore, we propose to dynamically adjust the number of clusters to find the most ideal grouping results. It may reduce the number of users participating in the training to achieve the effect of reducing communication costs without affecting the model performance. We verify its experimental results on the non-IID handwritten digit recognition dataset and reduce the cost of communication and transmission by almost 50% compared with traditional federated learning without affecting the accuracy of the model.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121535816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in an IBFD system, the base station (BS) can perform uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) processes simultaneously, and hence there exists severe self-interference (SI) produced by the simultaneous UL and DL communications in the system. Therefore, to realize the IBFD system, it is necessary to deal with the SI problem. To cancel SI, adaptive filter is one of the possible candidates, which can be implemented with low cost and complexity. In our previous study, we proposed a digital SI cancellation method for IBFD system by using adaptive filter. To verify the performance of the method in our previous study, we implemented an IBFD system with 3-stage of SI cancellation: antenna, analog circuit, and digital cancellation. From the experiment results, it can be seen that our implemented system can finally offer significant SI cancellation performance, so that the demodulated output can reach $10^{-2}$ order bit error rate (BER).","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114197476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, we address the design of low-density parity check (LDPC) codes for incremental redundancy (IR) hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocols. To facilitate the IR-HARQ operation, a rate-compatible (RC)-LDPC code family constructed by the code extension method is used. Performance metrics, including goodput and energy efficiency, are investigated. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our proposed design compared to existing solutions over the state-of-the-art. The results also support the proper selection of the LEO satellite’s transmitted powers based on the trade-off between goodput and energy efficiency.","PeriodicalId":375211,"journal":{"name":"2023 VTS Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116868535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
