Sedangkan tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh media grafis gambar Situs Tanjung Sirih terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS Terpadu (Sejarah) di Kelas VII SMP Negeri 48 Palembang. Metode yang dipakai yaitu metode deskriftif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, tes soal, dokumentasi. Dalam artikel ini, penulis fokus mengkaji buku teks dengan materi sejarah Indonesia zaman Hindu-Buddha. Terdapat tiga nilai yang dikaji, yaitu nilai nasionalisme, nilai toleransi, dan nilai kepemimpinan dari kerajaan-kerajaan Hindu Buddha yang ada di Indonesia pada abad ke IV sampai adab ke XV. Dari materi tersebut diharapkan peserta didik mempunyai jiwa nasionalisme dan mempunyai toleransi yang tinggi terhadap sesamanya yang berbeda budaya, agama, dan kebangsaan. Kepemimpinan dari raja-raja di kerajaan-kerajaan Hindu Buddha juga mengajarkan kepada peserta didik untuk menjadi pemimpin yang baik dan mengambil nilai-niai dari kepemimpinan tersebut. Di abad ke-21 dimana semua yang terjadi dunia ini terpengaruh oleh globalisasi yang juga menghampiri dunia pendidikan seharusnya guru juga terus berjuang untuk tetap komitmen mendidik anak didiknya dan mengajarkan nilai karakter bangsa. Inovasi pembelajaran sangat diperlukan dalam dunia pendidikan, maka dari itu munculnya globalisasi harus dimanfaatkan dampak positifnya dan menghindari dampak buruknya bagi pendidikan. These reforms were carried out with a systemic reform, changing the mindset about learning the history and unite the steps of all parties concerned, including decision makers. The concept of national integration is actually a broad concept. From sociological perspective, the process of understanding can be explained as integration, as in political integration resulted from the efforts in cooperating and uniting the parties that have followers with various ideological background. The national integration process happens as the result of the needs to strengthen the harmony and security for a sovereign country. Malaysia, however, has taken several concrete steps to bridge the diversity in ideology, politics, economy, and social matter, along with the efforts towards educational system. History education had been made as the main choice in Malaysia in order to realize the goal of teaching political value as well as its importance. History also plays a role in improving socialization and awareness towards politics within the young generation, as well as strengthening nationalism as an important element to build a good citizenship. History education should be able to foster national integration and national development. The awareness towards historical heritage is important to foster group identity that later may form the sense of belonging, love, empathy and loyalty. The development on history education in Malaysia shows that the subject of history has been made as a bridge in achieving the above goal (KPM, 2003) namely to foster the loyalty and identity as the citizen of Malaysia and as the member of the world society. Multicultural perspective is important to be delivered in history education so that every ethnic will be pround and respected. Multiculturality and diversity should be considered as a potential to foster diversity into national integration. It was aimed at finding out how ethnical elements influence the acquisition of students’ conceptual understanding in history as well as observing the differences and the correlation between multi-ethnic students’ conceptual understanding level and the historical thinking aspects. This study was a survey study using instruments of tests and interviews with students based on stratified sampling taken from the whole Malay Peninsula comprising four zones of North Zone (21.9%), South Zone (22.1%), Central Zone (34.0%) and East Zone (22.0%). The rating scale for conceptual understanding and historical thinking was excellent, good, fair, and poor. The test items used within the test were based on the curriculum of history for Sekolah Menengah Tingkatan Empat (Form Four of Secondary School) including early civilization, South East civilization, Islamic civilization and European civilization. Theories from experts were considered in the composition of test items and in order to ensure the reliability of the result. Interviews were also conducted to get teachers’ response to the teaching of conceptual understanding and historical thinking. Six teachers were chosen for the interview. the data shows that students’ conceptual understanding level was fair in general (mean=3.07, s.p = 1.103) where the historical thinking was poor (mean = 1.94, s.p = 0.834). Students’ conceptual understanding level will affect their thinking ability and analysis towards the subject matter. Malay students were different significantly in conceptual understanding and history thinking from the Chinese and Indian ones. The historiography exposed in the history text book is definitely different from historiography of another scientific history book. The practical purpose of education becomes one of the important goals of composing the history text book. The history understood from history text book can do more than only developing the student’s historical awareness. The historical awareness can be detected in the attitude expressed by the students, such as their sense of nationality, partriotism, unity, willingness to sacrifice, etc. However, the history books composition, including the history text books, cannot avoid the spirit of the period it was written. According to the historiography development in Indonesia, the history text books has been written based on nederlandocentrism, indonesiacentrism, ideologism, and scientific, which are the result of how the spritit of a period affected the history text composition. Besides comprehending subject matter, chosen teaching model, classroom management, and teaching media, teachers also need to comprehend scaffolding. Teachers’ knowledge towards the importance of scaffolding in history teaching in senior high school level is an important thing to get a good history teaching quality. The scaffolding implementation model in history teaching was the aim of the research.The development towards the metacognitively-oriented scaffolding implementation model in this study was conducted using teacher questionnaire analyzed through SmartPLS. The hipotetical model proposed on the first phase was confirmed by teachers’ response data that generated theoretical model. The next analytical model was then developed through model optimizing phase.Findings of the study show that the optimal model was the suittest scaffolding implementation model in metacognitively-oriented history teaching. Based on the optimal model, the changes on metacognitive construct can be explained by 63.2% of students’ activity construct. The changes on students’ activity construct can be defined by 73.9% of the scaffolding implementation construct. The changes on scaffolding implementation construct can be defined by 46.69% of the scaffolding development effort construct and by 41.8% of scaffolding comprehension construct. The method used in the study was experimental method, i.e. through non – equivalent control group design (pre-test and post-test). Some points were concluded from the data collected within the study. First, the implemented hypertext-based history teaching model had affected learning activities to focus more on mental activities (thinking process). The whole teaching learning activities benefitted the students a wide chance to study, observe, compose, deliver the questions, answer them, consider others’ view, discuss questions by relating them with textual concepts, and make conclusion together.
