A retrospective observational study is conducted to determine the effectivenessof a regimen of sequential gradient SGIPC in treating edema of lower limbs. The study is carried out on 90 patients affected bydifferent stages of edema and evaluated at a Wound Care Clinic for one month. Medical records data have been collected after thefirst, the third, and the fifth hour-long treatment session. The inclusion criteria are: (1) presence of edema to one limb, at least,regardless of etiology, (2) presence of both pain and feeling of heaviness (or tiredness) of the limb, (3) non-use of bandages or elasticstocking/knee socks, and (4) availability of complete data about the edema size monitoring. The exclusion criteria are: (1) presenceof infected wounds, (2) severe arteriosclerosis or other ischemic vascular diseases, (3) severe congestive cardiac failure, (4) known orsuspected acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT), (5) thrombophlebitis or Pulmonary Embolism (PE), and (6) hypertension (SystolicPressure greater than 170mmHg). The following parameters are considered as grade of improvement: the decrease of the limbcircumference in at least two measurement points between the foot, ankle, and calf; the disappearance of at least one of thesymptoms of pain and feeling of heaviness of the limb; improved mobility. A Flowtron ACS 900 system is used, for the treatment,consisting of a pump, connected to two (calf and thigh) brace with individual tubes, applying a pneumatic compression, graduatedin the air chamber, with sequential cycle in three compartments (one at the calf level and two at the thigh level), at a pressure of45mmHg, with inflation cycles intermittent alternating. Inflation time 12s, time of deflation 48s. In addition, bracescorresponding to limb size have been used (automatically recognized by the system).In a sample of 90 patients (95.6% women and 4.4% men) with edema of the lower limbs (37.8% at stage 1, 43.3% at stage 2,15.6% at stage 3, and 3.3% at stage 4), a successful treatment has been found, from the first session. A circumference decreasegreater than 3mm in at least two measuring points between the foot, ankle, and calf, of 77.8% after the first session, 90% after thethird session, 90% after the fifth session, on average for both limbs. The disappearance of pain at the end of the session has beenfound in 85.6% of cases after the first session and 100% after the third and fifth, respectively. The feeling of heaviness of the limbhas disappeared in 100% of cases at the end of the sessions. For the stages 3 and 4, it is generally observed an improvement ofmobility in 58.9% of cases at the end of the first session and equal to 100% after the third and fifth session. A good compliance inpatients who have rejected the manual lymph drainage has been found. The Southern African Development Community(SADC) is an inter-governmental organization, with 15 member states: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho,Mauritius, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Madagascar, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, andZimbabwe. Its aim is to increase socio-economic cooperation and integration among the community. It is one of the richest area interms of biodiversity.The main goal of the Project is to contribute to stop biodiversity loss by supporting the development of conservation strategies.Biodiversity or biological diversity is formally defined by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) as: “the variability amongliving organisms from all sources including, among others, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecologicalcomplexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems” (UN 1992 Article 2) [2].Biodiversity is affected by the interaction of multiple drivers and pressures including demographic, economic, socio-political, scientificand technological ones, which are leading to further decline, degradation and loss.The principal pressures on biodiversity include habitat loss and degradation, overexploitation, alien invasive species, climate changeand pollution.These pressures are continuing to increase. To use biodiversity and to keep it in a sustainable way, it is necessary to study it, assess itseconomic value, develop a global strategy and a global network to monitor its status in the biosphere.An important step in developing conservation of biodiversity requires a successful groundwater characterization and protection.Conservation of biodiversity depends on groundwater needs strategies that allows for the use of groundwater in a way that iscompatible with the persistence of ecosystems in natural area, such as Limpopo Transfrontier Park, in the Southern African Region,which is an area rich in term of biological diversity and ecological complexity. In particular the quality of ground water in some partsof the country, especially shallow ground water, is changing as a result of human activities.The goal of the following study is to provide an assessment of the actual groundwater quality-monitoring network and inconsideration of the growing demand for water, there is a need to understand the effects of planting on water resources to estimatecrop water requirement for the focus area, as last step of the methodology.","PeriodicalId":374697,"journal":{"name":"Senses and Sciences","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123942263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eight water points were sampled from private wells and analysed to investigate the distribution and enrichment of heavy metals in groundwater. In particular, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As and Pb were analysed during four sampling events (from October 2010 to July 2011).The results obtained show similar temporal variation of elements. Mn, Cu, Zn and As show major values during December, while Fe present major value during March. Pb concentration shows a peak during March, probably due a failure in water pipes.","PeriodicalId":374697,"journal":{"name":"Senses and Sciences","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129587066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The second step is the X-ray examination. The OrthoPanTomography (OPT),performed as radiographic analysis of 1st level; highlighted the inclusion of the element 1.3 and an area of multifocal radiopacity in contiguity tohis crown and allowed to identify the probable cause of inclusion of canine: an oversized Compound Odontoma. The prognostic evaluation,according to the technique of Ericson and Kurol performed on OPT, allowed to define numerically the position of the impacted canine andoriented toward a single surgical act: removal of the impacted canine and the odontoma. A Cone-Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) of theupper jaw, performed as examination of 2nd level, and 3D reconstruction showed the presence of nine radiopaque denticular structures ofvarious sizes, allowed to analyze in detail the involved anatomical region and directed the clinician towards palatal surgical approach.Finally,an histological examination should be performed.Results: As result of this diagnostic process, a single surgical act was performed: removal of the deciduous canine, the impacted canine and theodontoma. The surgical act confirmed the excellent correspondence between the 3D digital reconstruction of the maxillary region and the realanatomical structure. The surgical findings of the odontoma confirmed all that was radiographically highlighted: 9 denticular structures withvariable size and shape. The postoperative CBCT confirmed the total removal of the lesion. Histological examination confirmed the diagnostichypothesis: denticles surrounded by fibrous tissue with structure similar to the follicular sac.Conclusions: The 3D reconstruction provides more realistic and friendly images, useful both in dentist-patient communication both in thechoice of the therapeutic approach. \u0000Keywords:; ; ; ;; 3D reconstruction.","PeriodicalId":374697,"journal":{"name":"Senses and Sciences","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132685328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The soils were formedby. In the last years, the content of heavy metal in soils has increased due to human activities as: distribution of fertilizers, pesticides,industries, waste disposal and air pollution. Due to these activities the life capacity of soils decreased; especially where the naturalbackground is already high because of natural parental material richness in heavy metal. As a matter of fact it is very important todistinguish between the natural background values and anthropogenic inputs, and to understand that the background valueschange from area to area and with the scale of the area investigated. To evaluate the soil contamination rate different indexes likeEnrichment Factor (EF) and geoaccumulation index (Igeo) can be applied.
