The list of this selected bibliography of works, which are dealing with or referring to the thought or contribution of Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich, to his heritage and impact — in a smaller or a larger extent — or to his associates and acquaintances, or to the context in which he lived and created, we tried to provide it in chronological order. The present list is a continuation of the bibliography published in Nicholai Studies, Vol. I, No. 2 (2021): 527–546, and it will be referencing first to the works and writings of Nicholai Velimirovich, then monographs, and finally the articles; additionally, it will mention selected academic research.\u0000This bibliography is partially briefly annotated — hopefully, a more completed and annotated bibliography of references interesting for Nicholai studies will be collected and prepared in the future. We in America especially honor the memory of a man who lived and walked among us who has been called “The New Chrysostom” or “The Serbian Chrysostom” for his gift of preaching and teaching. St. Nicholai Velimirovich was born in 1880 in the small Serbian village of Lelich to pious Serbian Orthodox parents. He grew up in a home imbued with the life of the Orthodox Faith. His parents often interrupted their farm work for daily prayer and observed and celebrated all of the fasts and feastdays of the Church. His mother was often seen taking her little Nikola by the hand and walking three miles to the Chelije Monastery for prayer, Confession and Holy Communion. Later in life, St. Nicholai remembered these walks with his mother as being some of the most influential experiences of his life.
The Nicholai Studies: International Journal for Research of Theological and Ecclesiastical Contribution of Nicholai Velimirovich

The idea to open a seminary arose shortly after his enthronement, in the summer of 1921. The seminary was built in very difficult conditions because Bitola, as a border town on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, was largely destroyed and devastated. On the other hand, there was a lack of material resources because opening this new school was not foreseen in the state budget. Bishop Josif, in his efforts to open a seminary, was extremely supported by the then Bishop Nicholai of Ohrid.\u0000Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich (1881–1956) has supported the Bitola Theological Seminary since the efforts to establish this seminary in 1921. In order to enable the opening of the Bitola Theological Seminary, the collecting of contributions in money and things for the basic needs of the school and boarding school has begun in 1921. The American Commission to Serbia (Commissioner Dr. Rudolph Rex Reeder (1859–1934)) was the first to send abundant aid, thanks to Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich who interceded with the scientist Mihajlo Pupin (1854–1935) on this issue. One hundred and forty years have passed since his birth in the village of Lelić in the middle of Podgorina, a village which became famous precisely because of him. Just as Nazianz is known after St. Gregory the Theologian, Lelić became famous after Nicholai. It has also been sixty-five years have passed since Nicholai’s blessed death, as well as thirty years since the transfer of his miraculous relics.\u0000It seems that “everything” has been said about St. Nicholai of Ohrid and Žiča, however, our need for a word in the Glory of God and the Saint’s honor is motivated by the desire that this beloved of God could be seen again and again on the basis of his imperishable deeds. Nicholai’s legacy, in this way, becomes the lens of our recognition in the hagiological reflection of his mystical presence among us until today. The very complex topic of his achievements, which postulates numerous researches, will be reffered to in the upcoming presentation, focused on the text of the Troparion from the Service to the Saint.\u0000The backbone of the presentation on the announced topic is an empirical experiment with the aim of pointing out the significance of the works of St. Nicholai of Ohrid and Žiča. With the deep conviction that many Orthodox Christians share such experiences in an immediate way, the author’s reflections on the mentioned topic are conveyed. At the same time, the acquired knowledge indicates a high degree of analogy with the content of the Troparion from the service to St. Nicholai of Ohrid and Žiča.\u0000Key words: Saint Nicholai Velimirovich of Ohrid and Žiča, Lake Ohrid, Lelić, Bialystok, Petar II Petrović Njegoš.
The Nicholai Studies: International Journal for Research of Theological and Ecclesiastical Contribution of Nicholai Velimirovich

The choice of the units by which God is named in the Prayers by the Lake is usually determined by the subject of the prayer itself. Bishop Nicholai expresses his creativity by using names for God of biblical origin. And even more, he enriches already established, common expressions with God as denotation with new meaning dimensions, which is also an expression of his authentic creativity. With such a procedure, he realizes the fullness of meaning and highlights the expediency, stylistic functionality, and beauty of the chosen expression.\u0000In Prayers by the Lake, metaphorical representations form a semantic-symbolic base from which a rich series of metaphorical and comparative nominative constructions will be born, with which Bishop Nicholai addresses God in prayerful ecstasy.\u0000The analysis of the nominative units with God as the denotation used in the Prayers by the Lake only somewhat illustrated the poetic prayer soarings of Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich, which reach the psalmistic ecstasy. Although prayers are characterized by a high degree of formality in the form of the existence of established linguistic structures, Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich’s Prayers by the Lake are to a significant extent a reflection of the individual style of high literary-artistic and authentic theological value.\u0000Key words: Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich, Prayers by the Lake, theolinguistics, prayer.
The Nicholai Studies: International Journal for Research of Theological and Ecclesiastical Contribution of Nicholai Velimirovich

Levuškina
This paper describes the manuscript of St. Nicholai Velimirovich named Slovesnik which was published as a book in 1997. It was written in the fourth or at the beginning of the fifth decade of the 20th century and is addressed to nuns of certain Serbian monasteries — spiritual daughters of Bishop Nicholai. There is poetry and prose, there are documents, memorials, historical and hagiography texts, miniatures, drawings, etc. in the manuscript. All of that was written and drawn with warm paternal love. As for poetry, there are hagiography texts: Canon to the Most Holy Theotokos Slovesnica, Troparion and Kontakion to St. Georgios, the poem Zidanje Vraćevšnice [Building of Vraćevšnica] — written as an epic folk song, and lyrical songs. Almost in every text, Church Slavonic and contemporary Serbian interfere. In several places in the manuscript, the text in Church Slavonic is translated into Serbian next to the original, so we can find two parallel texts. Linguistically, this interference between two languages is interesting, not only in the lexical and translational sense, but also graphically: St. Bishop Nicholai used not only old letters in the text in Serbian, but also diacritical signs, especially ~ on the letter(s).\u0000The basic directions of the (theo)linguistics research provided by the texts from this manuscript is the research in the fields of genre, translation, phonetic-phonology, lexical-semantic, derivation, stylistics, discourse, or text, and paremiology. The importance of the described edition for research in the field of pragmatics has to be especially emphasized. Pragmatics has a big research potential, as was said by Jean-Paul van Noppen — the founder of the term theolinguistics. He wrote that it is important “to delineate not only the semantics, i.e. what the words mean — what they describe, report, reflect and conjure up, but also the pragmatics, i.e. what the words do for people (which includes shaping their cognition)” (van Noppen 2011, 33). If we keep in mind who Saint Bishop Nicholai is addressing to in this manuscript (nuns, his spiritual daughters) — we have to state that this is an addressee who is very rarely in such a role. It is not easy to study communication in monasteries because the spiritual life of the monastic community is usually closed for observation, especially to linguists. Therefore, this edition has additional value as research material.\u0000Deeper and more detailed linguistic research of the texts briefly described in this paper will show and open some other directions and approaches of (theo)linguistic research. By all these approaches, mentioned and not mentioned in this paper, we hope, that both theolinguistics and linguistics, in general, can be enriched, as well as, in the first place, studies of contemporary Serbian language (Serbistics).
The Nicholai Studies: International Journal for Research of Theological and Ecclesiastical Contribution of Nicholai Velimirovich
