Typological vector is used to describe diachronic evidence and to evaluate genre characteristics, as well as to highlight historic and typologic features of folklore images. Typological direction studies those trends that lead to formation of plot and character groups. Gubina","doi":"10.2991/emssese-19.2019.29","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2991/emssese-19.2019.29","url":null,"abstract":"The article investigates the concept of authenticity in the context of foreign language learning, and dwells on the significance of audiovisual sources for mastering the multicultural environment by an individual. The authors focus on authenticity as a psychological phenomenon and present an empirical study of the relationship between authentic perception of language and psychological constitution of personality. Psychodiagnostic techniques related to self-actualization, ability to adapt in new living conditions were used with students of Glazov Teachers’ Training Institute. One of the significant characteristics of the cognitive process of an individual is the cognitive style. The study of cognitive styles of bilinguals can become a source of valuable information both for the theory of bilingualism and for the methods of teaching the second language. Cognitive style becomes the basis for a certain cognitive strategy. The paper deals with the range of problems arising in the study of cognitive styles and strategies of bilingual children, and identifies possible solutions. The main problems include the complexity of the definition of“cognitive style” according to its multicomponent nature; the need to take into account the peculiarities of bilinguals’cognitive styles when considering both speech perception and performance; undeveloped linguistic classifications of cognitive styles; the lack of generally accepted methods for the cognitive styles study on linguistic material, as well as for ethnocultural features of cognitive styles. Savelev","doi":"10.2991/emssese-19.2019.16","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2991/emssese-19.2019.16","url":null,"abstract":"During the past two and a half centuries the traditions and culture of the native people of Alaska have been affected first by the Russian and then by the Anglo-American culture. The traces of the Russian influence can be observed even 150 years after the cession of this territory to the US, as verified by the expeditions of Russian America Heritage Project documenting sustained the Russian influence, the religious one in the first place. At the initial stage of exploration of Russian America, influence was predominantly exercised through taking amanats (hostages) resulting in close contacts between the Russian fur hunters and the representatives of native population. In contrast to Siberia, where this practice originated from, Alaskan amanats were treated quite kindly and passed the Russian customs and traditions to their kin. After Russian American Company was established, the Russian Orthodox Church took over as the primary bearer of the Russian cultural traditions with the men of faith acting as advocates of the native population in the colonial administration among other things. Ishiguro’s The Remains of the Day. The phenomenon of Englishness as an ambivalent category is described through the peculiarities of the narrative structure of the literary text. The linguistic study of chronotope in the text under analysis makes it possible to prove the impossibility of positive evaluation of the nostalgic cultural stereotypes associated with the idea of Englishness in the narrative.
