Learning materials tend to become electronic having automatic evaluation mechanisms like quizzes, tests, etc. The learning materials usually have static content. Even LMS supported evaluations implemented by quizzes have static questions and answers and the only solution to create diversity for the student is to shuffle the order or both questions and answers. In this context there is a high interest in the topic of reusable learning designs in order to create dynamic content. These offer the prospect of capturing effective designs for learning and making them available for reuse and adaptation. The idea of capturing successful learning designs and making these the basis for reuse, rather than content, is at the core of the concept of generative learning objects or GLOs. AGLOs are automatically instantiate GLOs based on a meta-model expressed in XML, domain JavaScript object libraries and a generation environment implemented in JavaScript. The reuse of AGLO requires limited or no programming skills at all. In this paper we propose a set of AGLOs dealing with middle school arithmetic: transformations, additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions of rational numbers as fractions. The tutors can change the presentation, can adapt the existing design to their own needs, or can write new functions and objects to extend the domain library. The prototype is implemented as a JavaScript application running on Apache web server connected to a MySQL database. The approach was tested online with the fifth-grade middle school students.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130718644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can lead to short and long term pain in the back and neck areas, and has further been linked to depression. Modern lifestyle facilitates poor posture, especially because of the increasing amount of time people spend sitting. Even individuals that are considered physically active often still spend a considerable amount of time in sedentary behaviors. The spine presents itself with 3 physiological curves in the sagittal plane: concave cervically, convex thoracically, concave in the lumbar region. With the increase of curvature degrees in kyphosis come along the following risks: vertebral fractures, intervertebral discs degeneration, loss of bone density, and increase in mortality, reduction of physical activity, altered respiratory function, and implicitly, loss of quality of life. This project outlines an educational concept, which meets the need for the development of a postural educational system, based on sound signaling, meant to enforce an anatomically correct posture. It is based on the idea that every human has a ‘flex point’, a point where the body bends when one slouches. In other words: it is impossible to have a poor posture and keep the front of the body straight. The system consists of two main hardware parts: the controller and the bending sensor. According to specifications, the physician will define the anatomically correct position for the patient. After posture memorization, the device will send a sound signal for any deviation greater than 10% off the posture the doctor established.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116795742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

KinectX Pro was designed to provide an evaluation of efficiency of Ultra Slow Motion Intelligent Training (USMIT) for precision in motor coordination. KinectX was designed to provide direct feedback during the USMIT training in order to know the proper constant speed in ultra slow motions (10 mm/s). Material and method. 142 voluntary subjects participated in four sets of trials (a total of 657 tests): (1) preliminary tests (N=8); (2) motor coordination and psychological trait correlation tests (N=100); (3) precision progress in motor coordination tests (N=8); (4) motor coordination tests (N=27). Five advantages of KX and KXP were identified: (1) “no strings” movement; (2) “live” speed feedback; (3) trajectory feedback; (4) good sensor sensitivity (up to 30 evaluations per second); (5) easy relocation of KX and KXP systems. Two major disadvantages were identified and corrected during testing: (1) high sensitivityto light intensity variations; (2) high sensitivityto infrared radiations. One minor disadvantage: (1) variations inthe test results with variations in the subject’s position vs. sensor. Results. A guide for the optimal use of both applications was completed, tested and used in the trials. A beta version was completed for both KX and KXP and successfully used in the trials andthe training of athletes, members of the Romanian Olympic Team 2018. Conclusion. KinectX and KinectX Pro are reliable instruments in the training and evaluation of precision in motor coordination, based on the USMIT program.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132874430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diversity of medical devices increases the quality of medical act but, in the same time, increase the risk of adverse events or errors if the medical staff don’t have sufficient experience in using new medical equipment and new treatment procedures. Appropriate education and training of medical staff, including training in the appropriate use of medical equipment, is therefore essential for developing a high quality health care system. For solving this important problem is necessary to provide a replica of the patient care environment and the use of real patient simulators is a key issue. In these simulation centers the medical staff can learn and apply cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills and instructors can facilitate learning and objectively measure student performance and competency. According to the available budget is two way for creating the clinical environment replica. First is to design a flexible implementation to accommodate multiple environment configurations in a single space and the second is to replicate the environments in which the learners will provide patient care like emergency department, intensive care unit, operating room, patient care unit or clinical examination room. In both situations is necessary to identify equipment typically found in the clinical environments we wish to replicate. Usually the medical equipment are: patient bed, patient monitors, ventilators, anesthesia delivery systems, suction devices, air and oxygen supplies, IV poles, infusion pumps, supply carts, defibrillators. All equipment must match with capabilities of patient simulators. In this paper we present our experience in training more than 500 medical staff in neonatal resuscitation and almost 1000 physicians and nurses in emergency medicine using real patient simulators in clinical simulation laboratory who are working in Medical Bioengineering Faculty from ”Grigore T. Probabilistic models play a major role in risk assessment and prevention of disastrous consequences of extreme events such as volcano eruptions, earthquakes and tsunami. The prognoses issued according to these models offer, as a principal result, early warnings concerning the approaching disaster. Nevertheless, false warnings may also appear, leading to unnecessary panic and waves of painful emotions which all deprive society of essential resources. While the necessary scientific background is acquired during the university years through specialized courses in Probability and Statistics, there is an a priori drawback to the use of this theoretical basis. In fact, each model relies on statistical data collected for similar major events already present in the region under study. The estimation of the parameters is thus deeply influenced by particular characteristics. These in turn determine the bias function which controls the difference between the estimated value of the parameter and its real unknown value. Inspired by the complexity of warning systems, we have designed our present game with the goal to enhance the understanding of some important notions which govern the prognoses based on statistical tests: biased and unbiased estimation as well as confidence interval for the estimated parameters. Included in an e-learning game, these notions are embedded into a scenario, enabling the passing of our hero from the initial “ocean level” in which he gets a secret tsunami warning, through the “lab level” in which he analyses oceanic earthquakes, to the actual “tsunami apparition” game sequence.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133259607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our research we propose a solution to the problem of a particular component of banking security systems involving the client's signature. Any document reflecting legal transactions executed by a certain bank that includes client’s signature should be pre-processed by the security system in order to authorize it. One of the first steps in the authorization process involves the recognition of the client’s digital signature. Basically, the digital signature to be recognized is often different from the stored one from the geometrical point of view, in the sense that it could be a distorted variant of it. In our developments the working assumption is that the degradation is modeled by rigid transform, where only translation, rotation, and scaling are considered. The registration problem is solved based on the following general procedure. First, the binary variants of both the acquired image and the stored one are computed to make the entire recognition process tractable. Next an evolutionary-based technique is developed to align the input image to the target one. The proposed fitness function is defined in terms of mutual information computed between the transformed image and the target image. We use various mixtures of standard recombination schemes, involving local/global convex and discrete crossover. The mutation procedure comprises uncorrelated multiple sigma-type parameters. The registration quality is evaluated in the final phase using quantitative and qualitative measures. The experimental results together with some concluding remarks regarding the quality of the proposed methodology are reported in the final part of the paper.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"213 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130307994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In comparison with the traditional learning methods that are guided by the famous saying ,,Repetitio est mater studiorum\", the new methodologies offer a simpler way of learning and compared to the quantity of the remembered content, doesn't take much time. This work shows the results of a pre-examination conducted on a sample of 15 students of the Faculty of Educational Science in Pula, University Juraj Dobrila of Pula, Croatia. The research has been done during a course on Information Technologies. The research results show that ways of learning that involve underlining, learning by constant repetition and rewriting the text are outdated and, take too much time and have low efficiency, considering the quantity of remembered content. By using different learning methods, it is possible to make studying more entertaining and more adapt to individual needs and possibilities of students. One of the stages of the NTC (Nikola Tesla) program is characterized by thoughts of classification, thought of series and associations. This paper presents one learning method that uses associations which is part of the NTC learning methodology. Associative learning is not only important for memorizing the lesson, but because it is the basis for later functional knowledge and stimulating this type of learning helps students to increase the level of their functional knowledge. NTC program is intended for the development of functional knowledge and creativity by increasing divergent production and linking information.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"287 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122757519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whilst they an inclination to use smart phones and computers to both communicate and surf the internet, students may not capitalize their IT skills and abilities for educational purposes. There is little research in Romania on the student's perceptions towards the use of e-learning in a technical university. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of an exploratory quantitative study that depict student's perceptions towards the use of e-learning and the main advantages and disadvantages for various categories of students from a technical University. Key factors and main advantages and disadvantages used to develop the survey were identified based on a qualitative research. The questionnaire was pretested and administered to 217 students in paper format to multiple Faculties and years of study. Both advantages and disadvantages identified for e-learning were measured on a five-point interval importance scale. SPSS was used for statistical analysis. Factor analysis was performed for both advantages and disadvantages in order to identify the key aspects that characterize student's opinion towards the e-learning The survey compared and contrasted the student's viewpoints from several Faculties and years of study as well as for students from five distinct groups: those that have high grades and receive bursary (merit), those with good grades but just below the bursary threshold (up to one point below), students with poor academic performance and no bursary, those that work (part-time or full time) and those that never worked. Statistical analysis investigated for existence of significant differences due to student's faculty, gender, year of study, age, grades, bachelor or master, and whether or not the student works. This paper provides important results for the University management on both Faculty and University level regarding the key factors influencing student's perceptions towards the use of e-learning.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116836153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We refer here to the easy access for both researchers and the large public to research results in various top-level domains such as bio- or nanotechnologies, drug design or astrophysics, as well as to the involvement of non-specialists in different major research projects in these domains At the same time, we observe an exponential growth of Open Educational Resources (OER), online courses, MOOCs, books and other materials organized in digital libraries, encyclopaedias, games and multimedia applications, as well as attempts to build a sustainable infrastructure to achieve open education through new pedagogies such as Open Core Courseware, Web 2.0 approaches, blended learning and learning analytics. If, until recently, the accent was set on OERs, in the last years the focus shifted towards the Open Educational Practice (OEP), i.e. the way in which OERs can be used for teaching and learning in order to innovate the learning process. In the long run, the sustainability of Open Education (OE) and/or Open Science (OS) is undoubtedly ensured by a cultural and/or behavioural change of society’s members, especially of the current young generation which will be the researchers or non-specialized producers/consumers of science in the future. In this paper, we highlight how we can educate students/future teachers for a world of open science and open education, both through the use/reuse/create of OERs and the use of OEP, as well as raising awareness of the impact of openness on the development of science and the way it is absorbed by society.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114587494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The graphic representation provides the logical link between thinking, imagination and objective, material reality. It is fundamental for student’s to understand of constructive forms, functional and assembly schemes. This requires the use of classical teaching methods which is based on the application of internationally recognized standards, being necessary for the correct application of the principles for a technical drawing. In terms of improving the quality of the communication channel between teacher and student in recent years teachers have turned to modern teaching methods using simulation as an instrument underlying the student's understanding of the required tasks. In the least years we found out that using computer-based instruction (CBI) at classes give more favorable ratings for students. Interactive animations and simulations supported with computer aided teaching, used for presented some problems had a positive effect on the achievements of students. The use of modern teaching techniques is integrated into curriculum education as a frequent trend of developed countries for university and pre-university environments. Teaching using computer-based instruction has a very good impact because increase the students’ achievements but we find out that is not enough. As for the technical drawing, the use of simulations and presentations like a modern teaching method is not enough to form a technical thinking. Thus, it is necessary to apply the classical methods of teaching, which are aimed at understanding the necessary steps for the creation and realization of a technical drawing which can be conceived only on the basis of the international conventions established by the engineering graphics.","PeriodicalId":371908,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference eLearning and Software for Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114199430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
