There are various methods for the removal of pigmentation (depigmentation) which can be surgical stripping, use of lasers, chemicals etc. This is a spilt mouth study where surgical stripping and CO2laser depigmentation along with the added benefits of Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) membrane have been evaluated clinically and histologically. Materials and Method: 40 sites from 10 patients who were aesthetically conscious of their dark gums were enrolled in the study and a spilt mouth treatment protocol was followed where there were 4 groups as follows: 1) Group 1: CO2laser sites with PRF membrane (n=10). 2) Group 2: CO2 laser sites without PRF membrane (n=10). 3) Group 3: Scalpel technique/surgical stripping sites with PRF membrane (n=10). 4) Group 4: Scalpel technique/surgical stripping sites without PRF membrane (n=10). All the above groups were performed on one patient in one single sitting and by a single operator and follow up were done at 1 day, 1 week and 10 days assessing the visual analogue scales and landrys wound healing index. Histological specimen was obtained on the 7th day from the lateral incisor regions of all four groups. Results: At day 1 of the follow up it was noticed that Group 1 had the least pain, followed by Group 3 and then the groups where PRF membrane was not used. At 10 days post operatively, all the groups showed no pain. Considering healing index, also the groups with PRF membrane showed better healing as compared to the groups where PRF membrane was not used. Therefore it was shown in the study that PRF membrane has helped in better healing as well and reducing the pain post operatively. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study, it can be concluded that, CO2laser with PRF membrane has shown faster healing and lesser pain perception therefore it can be used as a routine procedure for depigmentation.","PeriodicalId":37056,"journal":{"name":"Dentistry 3000","volume":"10 1","pages":"1-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69983415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LLLT nowadays have several applications in many dental fields. The non-invasive treatment of oral diseases is an important aim of modern dentistry. Laser effects have not yet been investigated widely, however as a safer option to traditional therapy they have the ability to become known. Objectives: In this review we aim to highlight the mechanism of action and the effects of LLLT. We also aim to highlight how different wavelengths and energy applied can have a distinct impact on the effectiveness of LLLT. Methodology: The search for articles was carried out on the Google Scholar, PubMed, and Web of Science. The articles selected were the most recent, original ones, and that evaluated the use of LLLT in dentistry. Conclusion: The advantages of this particular laser LLLT are multidirectional, and thus the effects became multifold. Improved knowledge and ongoing work in this direction has culminated in a better awareness of the LLLT's stimulatory, antiinflammatory and biogenerative activity, not just on soft tissue but also on hard tissue. Finally, we provide insight on its current and potential future applications.","PeriodicalId":37056,"journal":{"name":"Dentistry 3000","volume":"10 1","pages":"1-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69983945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bruxism affects between 10% and 20% of the population; and can lead to headache and pain in the muscles, jaw, neck and ear. They also pose, in many cases, problems of a certain severity in the function of chewing and swallowing food. Apart from the fact that, sometimes, bruxism can be related to malocclusion, that is, to the bad gear between the jaw and the maxilla, some of the main causes for which this pathology develops are closely related to stress, fatigue or anxiety. In this sense, given the situation we are experiencing, in which home confinement by COVID-19 can cause, in some people, anxiety disorders, disorders related to bruxism and Temporo Mandibular Joint (TMJ) may be aggravated during these weeks.","PeriodicalId":37056,"journal":{"name":"Dentistry 3000","volume":"10 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69983344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patient can present with oropharyngeal, cervical, temporomandibular or auricular pain, globus sensation, dysphagia, transient ischemic attack and syncope. Diagnosis is established by correlating the symptoms with radiologic confirmation. This case report depicts a 50 year old male patient who reported with multiple facial fractures. His radiographs showed a markedly elongated styloid process of the right side and his medical history revealed that he experienced mild dysphagia, transient voice changes and right sided jaw pain occasionally and hence the diagnosis of Eagle syndrome was confirmed during the evaluation of maxillofacial injuries.","PeriodicalId":37056,"journal":{"name":"Dentistry 3000","volume":"10 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69983304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to compare the surface topography of three different root-end filling materials.Methods: 36 extracted single rooted human incisor teeth were cleaned and decoronated to standardized 10 mm root lengths. The root segments were prepared and 2 mm apical resection were performed. The samples were randomly separeted to three groups (Group A: Ca(OH)2, Group B: MTA Angelus, Group C: ProRoot MTA), each comprised of 12 roots. Materials were placed as 2 mm apical barriers and obturated with guttapercha and AH-Plus sealer. Each group dimidiated two subgroups (A1,A2,B1,B2,C1,C2). Groups A1,B1,C1 were stored in normal saline (NS), groups A2,B2,C2 were stored in neutral phosphate buffer saline (NPBS) solution and samples were incubated at 370C for 2 weeks. Stereomicroscope (32X) was used to photograph the root-end filling.Results: All specimens demonstrated white crystals formation and sediment over the root-end filling materials and on the superficial border of the root-end cavities’ wall as a white plague. A2,B2,C2 samples have more crystal sediment on root-end fillings than samples A1,B1,C1. Dissolution and corrosion were observed in groups A1, A2.Conclusions: The results of this study revealed that calcium hydroxide is more resorbable than MTA Angelus and ProRoot MTA.
