The determination of the degree of respiratory distress is of extreme clinical relevance. The authors have previously (Internat. J. of Med. Informatics, vol. 63, pp. 101-107, 2001) proposed treating the problem by using the theory of fuzzy sets, and the computer implementation of this model was considered. The problem was modelled as a fuzzy multicriteria decision-making problem. In this paper, the use of fuzzy measures and of the corresponding Choquet integral are considered in order to improve the authors' previous results. The improvement is due to the fact that the application of fuzzy measures can take into account the interaction between the criteria. Results are given and the directions for possible further work are pointed out.","PeriodicalId":369629,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 15th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2002)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123656133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of homogeneity in the healthcare organisations required a suitable implementation of workflow automation tools to create and manage the execution of the care-giving processes, customising them to local ward needs. Solutions for this problem, as well as the integration of the workflow organiser (to be used by individual health professionals during their daily activities) with the patient record manager are discussed.","PeriodicalId":369629,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 15th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2002)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121683670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To help patients and surgeons make informed decisions about whether to undergo elective high-risk surgery, a reliable predictive model would be beneficial. This paper focuses on development and optimized tuning of a model predicting risks related to heart interventions of several types. The model is based oil representative data sets collected in the Merged National Registry (MNR) on Cardiovascular Interventions. The registry is operated and governed by the MEDICON Center. The central attention is paid to an instance-based reasoning model and its tuning. In particular, the paper presents and discusses benefits of utilizing a genetic algorithm with limited convergence for this purpose.","PeriodicalId":369629,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 15th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2002)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129823460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These natural methods are based on the fact that fertilization is most likely to occur around the time of ovulation. Intercourse is avoided during those times when a woman is fertile, thus preventing conception. In this paper, we present a fertility information appliance that combines ovulation, symptom-thermal and LH (luteinizing hormone) methods. The appliance is implemented using a neurofuzzy approach. The new perspective of multimedia thought and praxis imposes a quite different and rather sophisticated point of view for existing methods in several disciplines. In regard to this, the main rule of this alternative consideration is that of unification. In this paper, we introduce a multimedia handling of medical groping (palpation). This perception leads to simultaneous transmission of audio and visual packets of information, conforming to a modified approach of 3D static \"images\". Images of this form may be processed using well-known methods, or new techniques could be developed. The resulting scheme enables virtual electronic palpation with several prestigious and useful first results. We may refer, for instance, to the reduction of the data burden occurring in video streams, the simplicity of the application, the multiplexing of different sources and several kinds of information. Moreover, the modified images of electronic palpation contribute to a unified approach for the conveyed information. The s-/spl eta/ (spatial-audio) domain is therefore inaugurated. Mutual aspects of signal and image processing as well as novel methods of information processing should result from this domain.","PeriodicalId":369629,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 15th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2002)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121384931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses nomenclature terms and data consistency rules to limit the speech input to a discrete set of phrases which can be configured to support a wide range of studies. This information is stored in an event-oriented data model as strongly typed observations for subsequent distribution and data analysis. The use of speech input should result in increased efficiency during hands-busy data collection tasks. The strongly typed data, as opposed to free-form narratives, ensures a quantitative information base for analysis and clinical decision support.","PeriodicalId":369629,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 15th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2002)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130843360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The persistent lack of specialists in places distant from urban centers makes telemedicine an important tool for the improvement of healthcare services. In this paper, we present a framework, called CyclopsDistMedDB (Cyclops Distributed Medical Database), for the integration of distributed DICOM medical record databases over wide areas. The system has a central module that is responsible for receiving the clients' requests about patient data (images, waveforms), performing the querying and retrieval of images, patient records, etc. from the specific DICOM databases containing the data requested, and delivering them to the clients. The data communication protocols adopted are DICOM, for retrieval of objects directly from the DICOM data servers, and CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture), for the delivery of DICOM data to client applications.","PeriodicalId":369629,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 15th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2002)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115721525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
