Abstract
The imperative necessities of the contemporary era require multimedia development and they formulate a context wherein relative solutions are inaugurated. The new perspective of multimedia thought and praxis imposes a quite different and rather sophisticated point of view for existing methods in several disciplines. In regard to this, the main rule of this alternative consideration is that of unification. In this paper, we introduce a multimedia handling of medical groping (palpation). This perception leads to simultaneous transmission of audio and visual packets of information, conforming to a modified approach of 3D static "images". Images of this form may be processed using well-known methods, or new techniques could be developed. The resulting scheme enables virtual electronic palpation with several prestigious and useful first results. We may refer, for instance, to the reduction of the data burden occurring in video streams, the simplicity of the application, the multiplexing of different sources and several kinds of information. Moreover, the modified images of electronic palpation contribute to a unified approach for the conveyed information. The s-/spl eta/ (spatial-audio) domain is therefore inaugurated. Mutual aspects of signal and image processing as well as novel methods of information processing should result from this domain.
