The cryogenic loss of various polymers is found to be considerably smaller than the room temperature data, its pronounced temperature and frequency dependence is qualitatively explained by tunneling relaxation as well as the low frequency tail of the infrared absorption, both mechanisms being enhanced by dipolarity and irregularity of the molecular structure.","PeriodicalId":369354,"journal":{"name":"1977 7th European Microwave Conference","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114534170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dispersion relation for the propagation of electromagnetic waves along the interface between a low-loss ferrimagnetic material and a high mobility current carrying semiconductor is obtained. It is shown that the drift carrier stream in the semiconductor including diffusion and collision effects play an important role in the behaviour of space charge waves. There is an interaction between a wave in semiconductor having drift and diffusion effects and a wave in ferrite which gives rise to a growing wave with drifting carrier present in the semiconductor. It is suggested that solid state travelling wave anplifier can be adjacent to ferrite slab.","PeriodicalId":369354,"journal":{"name":"1977 7th European Microwave Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123860559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method for calculating the field distribution in a dielectric waveguide with an arbitrary symmetrical variation in the refractive index is developed, and some of the results are presented. This paper describes the development of a TE<sup>O</sup><sub>ON</sub> mode filter which operates using the phase difference between two or more sectorial waveguides, and provides cancellation to the undesired TE<sup>O</sup><sub>02</sub> and TE<sup>O</sup><sub>03</sub> modes whilst passing the wanted TE<sup>O</sup><sub>01</sub> mode. To establish the principle, an experimental model of a two-section filter has been constructed and its TE<sup>O</sup><sub>01</sub> and TE<sup>O</sup><sub>02</sub> mode transmission performance has been measured. TE<sup>O</sup><sub>01</sub> and TE<sup>O</sup><sub>02</sub> mode transmission losses of ⩽0.3 dB and ⩾10 dB for a 12 GHz frequency band centred at 36 GHz respectively have been measured. Ultimately, a broadband, 30 to 110 GHz, four-section filter is proposed which exhibits a theoretical TE<sup>O</sup><sub>02</sub> mode transmission loss of greater than 20 dB.","PeriodicalId":369354,"journal":{"name":"1977 7th European Microwave Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116670864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A number of novel features are incorporated in this new, Cassegrainian - type instrument. The main reflector is semi-homologous, which permits operations up to 120 GHz, and probably higher. In order to obtain a maximum aperture efficiency for each elevation the subreflector is (automatically) moveable with five degrees of freedom. The telescope is designed for multifrequency operation in the frequency range 8-120 GHz. Lens shortened feed horns are used in the lowest part of this range. TW-maser amplifiers are used up to about 45 GHz. Above 65, and up to about 120 GHz, resistive mixers (later to be cooled) are presently used. This new telescope, the largest one of its kind, its radiometer systems, and the most important results obtained with the same will be presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":369354,"journal":{"name":"1977 7th European Microwave Conference","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126003945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
