The study has focused mainly on concepts that maintain the probability of well blowout as a result of freely floating and scouring icebergs below accepted levels of risk. The investigation provides a framework from which intelligent decisions can be made regarding the relative benefits and costs of different protection concepts.","PeriodicalId":368689,"journal":{"name":"Day 2 Mon, July 17, 2006","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134576483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose is to obtain the spatial distribution of ice loads on the ship hulls in level ice, including the information on how the ice loads vary as functions of ship speed or ice thickness. For one ship hull the computed ice loads were compared with ice load distributions measured in model scale. The computed distributions were also compared with the design line load distributions used in the Finnish-Swedish ice rules and in the Polar Class rules. Some clear differences were found.","PeriodicalId":368689,"journal":{"name":"Day 2 Mon, July 17, 2006","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123264817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces the results of this video analysis which mainly concentrates on revealing different failure mechanisms that take place for the first year ice ridges, whether they occur simultaneously or progressively, which mechanisms always occur together, which mechanisms are the dominant and which of them are rare. Also the paper presents the relation between the load and velocity with different failure mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":368689,"journal":{"name":"Day 2 Mon, July 17, 2006","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130414820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
