Zunächst geht es um psychische Voraussetzungen für Schuldfähigkeit, um Besonderheiten psychischen Krankseins und um unterschiedliche Schuldtypen (Tat- und Unterlassungsschuld, existenzielle Schuld und unschuldige oder tragische Schuld). Schuldgefühl ohne Schuld und Schuld ohne Schuldgefühl sind Extreme in der Pathologie des Schuldgefühls, dessen biologische Mit-Bedingtheit erläutert wird. Die Bewältigung von Schuld und Schuldgefühl ist bei psychisch Erkrankten schwer, da sie zum Perspektivenwechsel, der auch für Vergebung wichtig ist, oft nicht in der Lage sind. Therapeutisch gilt es, einen straffreien wertneutralen Raum für das befreiende Aussprechen von Schuldgefühlen atmosphärisch zu ermöglichen.","PeriodicalId":36836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care","volume":"1 1","pages":"332 - 337"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83881644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By ‘public knowledge,’ I mean knowledge that is accessible to any interested person through consulting the evidence for what is claimed and/or wellpositioned authorities on the matter. Although public knowledge is not always ‘common knowledge’ in that it may not be widely known and agreed-upon, public knowledge always involves claims about reality the evidence for which can be readily accessed and considered by any serious inquirer. Public knowledge, on this understanding, is knowledge that persons can attempt to certify as true if they are willing to invest the time and effort required to do so. When hearing some claim—for example, that Pluto is no longer considered a planet—someone might ask, “how do you know that?” In response, the claimant could say, “Well, it’s a matter of public knowledge.” The idea is that all anyone would have to do is consult the International Astronomical Union or look into a powerful telescope and they could access the positive support for the claim. A person may agree or disagree that the evidence or authority is adequate to justify the claim, but nonetheless the claim is being presented as public knowledge. That is, the phenomenon in question is being presented as a fact that is adequately supported by accessible evidence and susceptible to confirmation or disconfirmation. It sounded to me like an introduction to a new productivity app. But no, the app is called WeCroak, and its sole purpose is to send you notices five times a day, which say, “Don’t forget, you’re going to die.” The clarity of mind he received from these reminders came as he grew in recognizing his finitude. The value of seeing our limits as part of God’s good creation is the throughline in Kelly Kapic’s You’re Only Human. Kapic could well be seen as standing in the tradition of Tom Oden, who wrote, “The only promise I intend to make, however inadequately carried out, is that of unoriginality.” Kapic’s scholarship is current, and he does not dodge challenging contemporary issues, but he brings the perspective of time-tested orthodox theology to bear on these vexing issues. He mines the great tradition of Christian spirituality to provide us with a wise and pastoral treatment of the reality of our human finitude. The subtitle captures the essence of this book quite well, “How your limits reflect God’s design and why that is good news.” The term finitude is semantically neutral, conveying the notion of “being subject to limitations.” And the ordinary events of life show us our limits daily (the inability to fly, limits to our endurance and focus, and the presence of suffering and disease). As Kapic tells us, “Finitude is an unavoidable aspect","PeriodicalId":36836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care","volume":"62 1","pages":"283 - 288"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85782930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I can also imagine this book informing Adult Christian education teachers who want to do a special class on the Imitation. I found that the discussion questions at the end of each chapter of Thomas à Kempis stimulated conceptual analysis, whereas the prompts at the end of each chapter of Billy’s edition of the Imitation stimulated spiritual self-examination.
