The observations of this research are based on corpora obtained from Turkish National Corpus.The results indicate that görünand gözükshare some common features in terms of their functions in discourse. They are both used evidentially with indirect evidence. TNC corpus in general shows that görünin Turkish presents a dichotomous structure from subjective to intersubjective forms. The subjective forms ‘görün-, gibi görün’ have the highest usage of the objective personal pronoun ‘bana’ and the possessive form ‘gözüme’ indicating the involvement of the speakers/writers to the situation presented. When speakers/writers present their utterances in intersubjective point of view, they prefer the parenthetical forms such as ‘görünen o ki’ without any objective personal pronouns involved. On the basis of frequency occurrences, this study offers a novel account of negation on typological grounds: (i) by focusing on nonmanual markers, we propose that a clause can be negated with a nonmanual element only – a pattern that has been typologically proposed for other sign languages – while previous studies classified TİD as a manual dominant language in terms of Zeshan’s typology (Zeshan, 2006), (ii) Also, we argue that backward head tilt has a syntactic characteristic, not lexically specified for NOT in contrast to Gökgöz (2011), (iii) on the other hand, in line with Pfau (2016), we show that TİD can easily be categorized as a Non-Strict NC language. The data were collected from Turkish monolingual and bilingual children who were born in England, Germany and Russia and acquired Turkish as their heritage language. The findings of the study reveal that the Turkish monolingual children adopt the use of SOV order as canonical, but they also show sensitivity to the pragmatics of Turkish and use other orders from an early age. A respeaker dictates the verbal content of a live TV program in reduced form to an automatic speech recognition engine which renders a written text to be post-edited on a subtitling component. This study presents a number of observations on those aspects of spoken Turkish which may be relevant to prospective respeaking practices for TV news and debates as well as on possible strategies to be employed while transforming the original content into subtitles. A qualitative analysis of a transcribed audiovisual corpus (total duration 76 min. 6 sec.) comprising clips from news/economics programs and debates has shown that the following factors might influence text reduction during respeaking: sentence length, word order and ungrammaticality/disfluency on syntactic level; mood, modality and speech act expressions on semantic/pragmatic level and elements with low information content (e.g. fillers, redundantly used discourse markers) on discursive level.
