One of the main objectives of each deployed underwater network is discovering the optimized path over sensor nodes to transmit the monitored data to onshore station. The process of transmitting data consumes energy of each node, while energy is limited in UWSNs. So energy efficiency is a challenge in underwater wireless sensor network. Dual sinks vector based forwarding (DS-VBF) takes both residual energy and location information into consideration as priority factors to discover an optimized routing path to save energy in underwater networks. The modified routing protocol employs dual sinks on the water surface which improves network lifetime. According to deployment of dual sinks, packet delivery ratio and the average end to end delay are enhanced. Based on our simulation results in comparison with VBF, average end to end delay reduced more than 80%, remaining energy increased 10%, and the increment of packet reception ratio was about 70%.","PeriodicalId":367680,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 5th Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114589240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These devices can be classified into two types : (1) impulse voltage generators and (2) impulse current generators. High impulse voltages are used to test the strength of electric power equipment against lightning and switching surges. High impulse currents are needed not only for tests on equipment such as lightning arresters and fuses but also for many other technical applications such as lasers, thermonuclear fusion, and plasma devices. This study focuses on the automation system of the High Voltage (HV) Impulse Generator, currently owned by University Putra Malaysia. The HV impulse generator is currently available in analogue form controlled device whereby it requires a try and error process in order to achieve the high voltage discharge value desired by the users. To ease the users with the process, it is beneficial to make an improvement i.e. transforming the analogue to a digital form of the HV impulse generator. The outcome of this study would enable users to simply key in the desired value and allow the system to do the rest based on the developed program in this study. A controller is developed to enable the system to intelligently adjust the suitable gap distance to discharge the desired high voltage. The programming using C language has been developed in this study followed by a simulation process. With the use of the programming developed in this study, it was found that the factor which affects the value of the voltage is the gap distance. The test carried out has also proven that having larger gap distance allows higher high voltage discharge value i.e. the relationship is proportional between \"gap distance\" and \"voltage discharge value\". In conclusion this study has successfully converted the process from analogue to digital for the High Voltage (HV) Impulse Generator owned by UPM.","PeriodicalId":367680,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 5th Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128512478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study involves recording of resting EEG from 40 healthy university students. Initially, the EEG is pre-processed for noise removal and filtered into delta, theta, alpha and beta waves using band-pass filters. Next, the sub-band power spectral densities are estimated via Welch method. Subsequently, spectral centroid amplitude and band power features are then computed from the power spectral density of the respective sub-bands. Correlation analysis between the two features is performed for each scalp location to ascertain its relationship. Findings have revealed that the EEG sub-band spectral centroid amplitude is highly correlated with the band power features for all scalp locations.","PeriodicalId":367680,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 5th Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126093564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are five clones of latex that have been used as samples to analyse the permittivity using SPSS software. In this work, the permittivity of 39 samples from five clones of latex have been measured at room temperature which is 25°C with the frequency ranging from 50Hz to until 100MHz. EIS is used to measure the data of all the samples. The study comes to the inference where low frequency can be selected to measure the permittivity of the pure latex. From the experimental results, it shows that frequency 50Hz can be selected in measuring latex's permittivity because the p-value is below than 0.05where there is significant different as compared to the other frequencies. The experimental results give valuable explanation and information for the analysis of frequency 50Hz is being chosen.","PeriodicalId":367680,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 5th Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123399939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existing manual process of distributing the TNA survey forms to user is not effective due to some challenges such as time consuming and high printing costs. This paper proposed a web based online system for TNA to overcome the drawbacks. The system allows feedbacks and training needs to be captured and implemented via online with the uses of web based architecture design and database. The design and implementation of the system is based on software development life Cycle (SDLC), whereby the empirical research approach was employed to gather all requirements needed from lecturers and training provider. The current manual business process flow of getting users training needs was improved and converted into an online based business process. The improved TNA process was validated with the development and implementation of Training Needs Analysis System prototype. The usefulness and efficiency of the system to user and training provider was observed and measured from time to time for continuous improvement.","PeriodicalId":367680,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 5th Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"234 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123160752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many technique can be use to transform spectra reflectance for instance Derivatives Analysis, Artificial Neural Network, and Mathemathical formulation by adding, substracting or dividing the wavebands. Among the methods, wavelet analysis have been exploited for determine predictive capability of spectral reflectance model development for chlorophyll quantification. Thus with the improvement of spectral and spatial resolutions of image satellite, remote sensing technique are applicable in monitoring chlorophyll. The selected wavebands for monitoring chlorophyll consisted of the visible (400-750nm) as compared to the NIR (750-1350nm). This research can be useful to develop models for chlorophyll concentration estimation based on leaf spectra reflectance using wavelet analysis and covering large area for monitoring chlorophyll using remote sensing technique.","PeriodicalId":367680,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 5th Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115821511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This altimetric data has been derived from multi-mission satellite altimeter TOPEX, ERS-1, ERS-2, JASON-1, and ENVISAT for the period of nineteen years (1993 to 2011) using the Radar Altimeter Database System (RADS). The estimated sea level anomaly (SLA) have shown similarity in the pattern of sea level variations observed by four tide gauges. Overall, the sea surface circulations during the NE and SW monsoons shows opposite patterns, northward and southward respectively. During the SW monsoon, an anti-cyclonic circulation has been detected around the Terengganu coastal area centred at (about 5.5o N 103.5o E) and nearly consistent with previous studies using numerical modelling.
