In this paper, we develop a new method for fingerprint enhancement based on non-separable filter banks. We first decompose the fingerprint image using the non-separable filter banks, which can decompose the fingerprint image efficiently and obtain wavelet coefficients, then modifies the coefficients by applying the adaptive approach to reduce the noises and increase the contrast between ridges and valleys according to the geometry feature of images. Then we apply the inverse wavelet transform to map the result and use a two-dimensional median filter to reduce noise and preserve edges. Experiments have been conducted on the fingerprint database FVC2002 in our study. The results demonstrate that the proposed method works well in fingerprint enhancement without under-enhancement and over-enhancement, and it is more effective and robust than other existing methods.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128485851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is able to express the extent of a system satisfying some property. How to compute the satisfiability degree is a critically problem. Although this paper has proved the computation for the satisfiability degree has the exponential worst case complexity, the proposition matrix is proposed to construct the proposition matrix search algorithm. It always chooses the high frequency proposition to simplify the old formula to obtain two new formulae, and the satisfiability degree of the old formula is equal to the sum of satisfiability degrees of the two new formulae. If the new formulae can be judged as true or false, the algorithm directly computes their satisfiability degree; else their satisfiability degree is recursively computed as the old formula. The proposition matrix search algorithm uses a truth detector to detect the truth value of a proposition so that computation times can be reduced significantly. Experimental results show it is more effective than the basic enumeration algorithm and the backtracking search algorithm.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116855120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specific services have to be delivered to the citizens with the help of civil servants. Ambient intelligence can help the interaction between citizens and specific services only if a rich middleware based on semantics has been previously designed. We propose an approach for improving the accessibility and efficiency of e-Government processes. The most innovative aspects of our approach are the use of semantics to describe e-Government services, and the use of SPARQL to define their eligibility criteria. We present a Web application that, based on our approach, automate the selection of services for citizens, and streamlines the associated e-Government process through an on-line collaborative workflow.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115207332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To test the hypotheses, we used event-related potentials (ERPs) technique to investigate the interaction pattern of emotion and working memory (WM) by typical WM n-back tasks with low and high cognitive loads. In the 0-back task, late ERP components for both spatial and verbal WM were affected by induced emotional states consistently. However, in the 2-back task, we could clearly observe that induced emotional states selectively affected ERPs for spatial WM, but not for verbal WM. These results suggested that the interactive pattern of emotion and WM was modulated by cognitive load. In the condition of low cognitive load, interaction of emotion and WM was similar and nonspecific. However, with the increasing of cognitive load, interaction of emotion and WM became specific and selective. ERP results suggested that attention resource competition could be the underlying neutral mechanism of the selective interactive pattern between emotion and WM.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125362227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hierarchical arrangement of data is one of the best methods to achieve better understanding of complex data. In this paper, we propose the HMAC method to perform Hierarchical Multi-label Associative Classification. This method uses multiple and negative rules to predict class-set and to filter exceptional cases in order to improve both accuracy and explanatory ability of the resulting classifier. Redundant rule pruning method for negative rules and rule ranking method for hierarchical associative classification are developed. Moreover, we propose a rule evaluation measure, Sim, that tread-off between F-measure and Jaccard's coefficient to encode hierarchical structure meaning of actual and predicted node collections. We show that Sim is robust and simple rule evaluation measure. Experimental results show that HMAC improves accuracy and explanatory ability of hierarchical classifiers compared with various rule ranking and pruning techniques.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127012507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

You generally do not have one without the other. Taking inspiration from life experience, a new form of computer memory has been devised. Certain conjectures about human memory are keys to the central idea. The design of a practical and useful “cognitive” memory system is contemplated, a memory system that may also serve as a model for many aspects of human memory. The new memory does not function like a computer memory where specific data is stored in specific numbered registers and retrieval is done by reading the contents of the specified memory register, or done by matching key words as with a document search. Incoming sensory data would be stored at the next available empty memory location, and indeed could be stored redundantly at several empty locations. The stored sensory data would neither have key words nor would it be located in known or specified memory locations. Sensory inputs concerning a single object or subject are stored together as vectors in a single “file folder” or “memory folder.” When the contents of the folder are retrieved, sights, sounds, tactile feel, smell, etc., are obtained all at the same time. Sensor fusion is a memory phenomenon. The sensory signals are not fused, but they are simply recorded together in the same folder and retrieved together. Retrieval would be initiated by a prompt signal from a current set of sensory inputs or patterns. A search through the memory would be made to locate stored data that correlates with or relates to the present real-time sensory inputs. The search would be done by a retrieval system that makes use of autoassociative artificial neural networks. Applications of cognitive memory systems have been made to visual aircraft identification, aircraft navigation, and human facial recognition. Other applications to speech recognition and control systems are being explored.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126825217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The image database is confined to human frontal faces with only illumination and slight expression changes. Cropping and normalization of the face need to be done in advance. In this paper, we apply the sparse representation based algorithm to the problem of general image classification, with a certain degree of intra-class variations and background clutter. Experiments have been done with the sparse representation based algorithm and SVM classifiers on 25 object categories selected from Caltech101 dataset. Experimental results show that without the time-consuming parameter optimization, the sparse representation based algorithm achieves comparable performance with SVM. We argue that the sparse representation based algorithm can also be applied to general image classification task when appropriate image feature is used.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130531806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
