However human preferences are actually accompanied with irrational factors. Psychologists Tversky and Kahneman have given some examples that indicate humans are simply irrational by the standards of the utility axioms. How to depict some non-rational decision of human — that is, by what function this is done — is a crucial component of this subject of human (ir)rationality. In this paper, we apply filter and ultrafilter tools in nonstandard analysis to represent human preferences on two levels, intuitively and subconsciously. We indicate how this preference modeling using ultrafilter notion can reflect the combination of human rationality and irrationality. In particular, we show in what cases human preferences can be called non-rationality.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134536218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A color image is a good cover medium because a color image consists of more redundant space than a gray scale image or halftone image, that means, a color image can be used to carry more secret data. Block truncation coding (BTC) is a lossy compression technique that can significantly reduce the size of digital images with acceptable visual quality. Traditional color BTC compression method uses three bitmaps to compress a color image for saving the storage cost. Chang et al. proposed a data hiding method to conceal secret data into BTC compression code. Chang et al. use a genetic algorithm (GA) to generate a common bit-map to improve the compression rate then uses the common bit-map to increase embedding capacity in a color image. However, Chang et al.'s method is time consuming for generating a common bit-map. In this paper, a novel data hiding method is presented to save the computation cost for common bit-map generation and improve the visual quality of stego images. From the experimental results, the proposed method not only successfully conceals secret data into compression code but also saves the computation cost of common bit-map generation.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"6 23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132373104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method first uses coverage rather than accuracy, to search for the candidates of rules, and secondly uses accuracy to select from the candidates. This system was evaluated on clinical databases on headache and meningitis. The results show that PRIMEROSE-INC induces the same rules as those induced by PRIMEROSE, which extracts rules from all the datasets, but that the former method requires much computational resources than the latter approach.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123673864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To solve this problem, phase synchronization theory is researched and used to analyze hypoxia EEG in this paper. A spatial filter method is used to preprocess hypoxia EEG. Phase locking value (PLV) is used to evaluate the extent of phase synchronism among hypoxia EEG. Analysis results show that there is linear relationship between hypoxia extent and phase synchronization extent. Otherwise, phase synchronization among different brain zones varies differently with hypoxia extent.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121275634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This facet directly implies that the underlying processing supports non-numeric data inherently associated with the variable perception of humans and generates results being seamlessly comprehended by users. Given that systems, which are quite commonly become distributed and hierarchical, managing granular information in hierarchical and distributed architectures is of growing interest, especially when invoking mechanisms of knowledge generation and knowledge sharing. The outstanding feature of human centricity of Granular Computing along with essential fuzzy set-based constructs constitutes the crux of our study. We elaborate on some new directions of knowledge elicitation and quantification realized in the setting of fuzzy sets. With this regard, we concentrate on an idea of knowledge-based clustering, which aims at the seamless realization of the data-expertise design of information granules. It is also emphasized that collaboration and reconciliation of locally available knowledge give rise to the concept of higher type information granules. The other interesting directions enhancing human centricity of computing with fuzzy sets, deals with non-numeric, semi-qualitative characterization of information granules (fuzzy sets) as well as inherent evolving capabilities of associated human-centric systems. We discuss a suite of algorithms facilitating a qualitative assessment of fuzzy sets, formulate a series of associated optimization tasks guided by well-formulated performance indexes, and discuss the underlying essence of the resulting solutions.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125075125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an efficient approach based on regularized orthogonal forward selection. The selection procedure is a direct optimization of model generalization capability by sequentially minimizing the leave-one-out (LOO) test error. Moreover, a regularization method is incorporated in order to further enforce model sparsity and generalization capability. The introduced algorithm is computationally very efficient, yet obtains a good feature subset that ensures the model generalization and interpretation. Comparisons with some of the existing state-of-art feature selection methods on several real data sets show that our algorithm performs fairly well with respect to computational efficiency and predict accuracy.","PeriodicalId":365083,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126605359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a neural network fusion model based on k-hyperplanes for non-linear regression. A k-hyperplane clustering algorithm is developed to split the data to several clusters. The experiments are done on an artificial time series, and the convergence of k-hyperplane clustering algorithm and neural network gradient training algorithm is examined.
