One of the headache problems for JSMR is the lack of the submission of papers, and this does not allow regular publication of JSMR. The main reason of the small number of submitted paper may be due to the absence of Impact Factor (IF) in this journal. In 2002, attempts were made to publish invited review articles in JSMR, written by the active researchers, since Editorial boards considered that this would call attention of many smooth muscle researchers to JSMR, and facilitate submission of papers to JSMR. J-Stage started to report the monthly number of downloads and citations of papers published in the JSMR from January 2005. Analyses were made for the number of papers to be downloaded since last 10 months to investigate the effects of introduction of invited review articles to JSMR on the number of downloads. The results indicated that the number of downloads is much higher for the review articles, compared to the original papers. The effects of publication of invited reviews also appeared on the increased number of downloads for original papers. Thus, in two meanings, it was considered that the publica-tion of invited review article in JSMR increases the attractiveness of this journal.","PeriodicalId":364748,"journal":{"name":"Journal of smooth muscle research. In this study, we evaluated the gastric emptying results between the 13C-octanoic acid breath tests, scintigraphy, and acetaminophen method. Ten patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia and 4 healthy volunteers were studied. For the test meal, we used scrambled egg, white bread, and 150 ml water and into the scrambled egg, 100 mg of 13C-octanoic acid, 37 MBq 99mTc-DTPA, and 20 mg/kg body weight of acetaminophen were mixed. After eating, breath samples and scanning scintigraphic information was obtained up to 8 and 2 hours, respectively. Blood sample was obtained 45 minutes after eating and the concentration of serum acetaminophen were measured. Previously, a positive correlation between the half emptying time (t1/2) determined by breath test and scintigraphy, was reported by Ghoos et al.(1993) (y=1.12x+66.1, R2=0.79, p<0.0001) and in this study a positive correlation was found (y =0.76x +113, R2=0.29, p=0.047). There was a negative correlation between the t, 12 determined by scintigraphy and the concentration of serum acetaminophen (y=-0.12x+15.9, R2=0.40, p=0.013). In case of that 13CO2 excretion of breath test was remained, even 8 hours after eating, t1/2 and lag phase determined by breath test were more delayed than actual state. In case of that 13CO2 excretion curve in early phase was drawn like sigmoid curve, t1/2 determined by breath test were more delayed than actual state. In case of that 13CO2 excretion curve had two peak-points, there was no problem. In conclusion the 13C octanoic acid breath test is a promising and reliable method for measuring gastric emptying.","PeriodicalId":364748,"journal":{"name":"Journal of smooth muscle research. This nomenclature is however confusing, because the channels which fall into this category show a high degree of heterogeneity in their biophysics, physiology and pharmacology. Since little molecular information is yet available for most types of NSCC (except for the fast extracellular ligand-gated NSCC), one useful criterion to sub-classify them is the mode of activation. Based on this, more than 10 subclasses of NSCC, including the G-protein-coupled NSCC as a newly emerging member, can be distinguished (Table 1). Furthermore, the biophysical and pharmacological profile of these subclasses of NSCC suggest that varying extents of structural similarities may exist. Such a duality, i.e. heterogeneity and similarity of NSCC is on one hand, the obstacle to exploiting selective drugs for NSCCs, but on the other hand, may account for a broad repertoire of functions that NSCCs subserve under various patho-physiological conditions. This short paper briefly overviews, from such an aspect, the physiology and pharmacology of NSCCs of the plasma membrane, which have rather poorly been elucidated so far.","PeriodicalId":364748,"journal":{"name":"Journal of smooth muscle research.
