Instead of inserting the pilot-subcarriers that are loaded with the already known information in the OFDM signal, the unknown and specially designed signal is used to replace the signal on the pilot subcarriers to decrease the waste of spectrum and also demonstrated well performance for the phase noise compensation. Both the proposed PBB and conventional pilot-aided (PA) estimation methods are demonstrated in a CO-OFDM transmission experiment, which is modulated by 4 quadrature amplitude modulation (4-QAM) format and transmitted over 1760-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF). In this paper, three methods of out-band and in-band OSNR monitoring in optical fiber communication system are studied and compared, which are mainly based on traditional out-band interpolation, in-band on-off signal, and in-band polarization diversity approaches. The traditional out-band interpolation is not very accurate for the dynamic DWDM networks. The on-off signal method is simple and accurate but it will interrupt the service and not suitable for the real time monitoring. A dynamic VNE_MP algorithm for distributed data centers inter-connecting is proposed. Based on the multi-path virtual concatenation mechanisms, a virtual link is split into multiple smaller sub-streams and carried on multiple paths. However, these networks require the use of novel software-defined Optical Transceivers that can adapt their features to the channel's requirements. This paper presents a novel optical transceiver architecture using a reconfigurable FEC coding scheme for flexible optical networks. The proposed approach can dynamically support different versions of FEC codes (with different overheads, code lengths, and LLR-widths) based on the network's Quality-of-Service requirements, whereas it can also be applied for the dynamic reconfiguration of the DSP units and the realization of dynamic coded-modulation schemes. The proposed approach has been implemented into an FPGA platform. Some services are sensitive to capacity provided, while others (e.g., video streaming) can operate with reduced bandwidth (degraded service). Degraded-service-tolerant connections can be admitted and recovered with reduced service under resource crunch. The multi-level multi-priority queue model is built for analysing the performance of the users accessing to local service database. The simulation results show the average time is 2.3 ms, 2.55 ms, 2.8 ms, 3 ms respectively at the arrival rate benchmark of 0.1 kHz and the proportion of each priority of 1:1:1:1. While at the same arrival rate benchmark, but the proportion is 1:4:4:1, the average response time is 2.25 ms, 3 ms, 4.5 ms, 5.5 ms. Generally, DCs are distributed at different nodes across a given optical network, and users access DCs through predefined routes. From the perspective of service providers, it is important to offer reliable cloud service while taking service delay and service cost into consideration. In this paper, we study the service routing problem in a given optical network to provide cloud services with high reliability, where failure probability and transmission delay of each link are considered as two coupled parameters. The objective is to minimize the total routing cost and design the access routes for the demands originated from each node. To combine together the corresponding delay and the failure probability of each link, we introduce two cost scaling factors which can be flexibly adjusted to control their relative importance (i.e., the weights). Based on mathematical approximation, a novel method is proposed to compute the failure probabilities of individual service paths. This translates our objective function into a linear expression. Then, we formulate an integer linear program (ILP) to solve the problem. To compensate the phase variation caused by fiber length fluctuation, passive phase correction technique is proposed with obvious advantages over the traditional active phase correction method. This paper reviews the recent developments of the stable RF transfer based on passive phase correction. The operation principles of several reported schemes are presented and the performance is evaluated and compared. Although good results have been achieved in such schemes, they can only be used for single frequency transfer.
