This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of histological pattern of polyp among colorectal polypectomy specimen concerning age, sex, size, and site and histopathological features and associated dysplasia. The study was done in the Pathology department in collaboration with the Gastroenterology Department on 115 patients. Biopsy was processed and histopathological features were studied with presence or absence of dysplasia. Most patients had constipation (40.87%) followed by rectal bleeding (40.00%) followed by pain abdomen and anemia. Male patients were 76(66.08%) followed by 39(33.91%) female patients. Among male patients most are of age range of 50-59yr (18.42%) and in females were of age range of 60-69yr. (25.64%). Grossly most polyp are of pedunculated shape (74.78%) followed by ulcerated type (13.04%) and least was of sessile appearance (12.17%). Most polyp were found in left side (descending colon: 40.87%) followed by rectum, ascending colon, sigmoid colon and transverse colon with least with caecum. Most Polyps size < 1 cm (90.40%) followed by size of polyp > 1 cm (9.60%). Regarding the histopathological evaluation of polyp we have reported tubular adenoma (53.91%) followed by hyperplastic polyp (19.13%) followed by tubulovillous adenoma (13.04%). Most of the polyp showed no dysplasia (94.64%) and dysplasia if seen both in tubular adenoma and tubulovillous adenoma. Colonoscopy is the most important tool in the detection of colonic polyp because of premalignant nature.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131272971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A clinician may not suspect a malignant neoplasm and the histopathological examination of the tissue may be missed out in such cases. Without any obvious clinical or radiological features, the lesion mimicked a periapical granuloma. The diagnosis was achieved after a thorough histopathological examination and extensive immunohistochemistry panel to rule out other similar histopathological entities.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121734073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Owing to the close morphological resemblance between giant fibroadenoma and Phyllodes tumor, here we are reporting a case of a young lady who was diagnosed with giant fibroadenoma clinically and by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC). Simple mastectomy was performed, and histopathology examination revealed a Giant Phyllodes. Thus, this report focuses on the rarity of the age of presentation, misleading clinical features and the diagnostic accuracy of FNAC compared to histopathology in differentiating these two close entities.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129667309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, microfilariae have been incidentally detected in fine needle aspirates of various lesions in clinically unsuspected cases of filariasis with absence of microfilariae in the peripheral blood. Microfilariae in cytological smears of malignant neoplasms is a chance finding. Cytology can be an effective tool for detection of asymptomatic filariasis and malignancy, thus helping in disease eradication and mortality. There are reports of coexistence of microfilaria with Ewing’s sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma of maxillary antrum and dentigerous cyst by different cytopathologists. Here we present a rare case of microfilariae in a cytological aspirate smear from left knee swelling with a malignant osteogenic tumor, osteosarcoma.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129139238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It commonly occurs in the head neck region and on extremities in adolescents and young adults. Less number of cases have been reported in the scapular region so far. Till now, no definite treatment regime is available for ASPS; early diagnosis plays a pivotal role in its management and patient outcome. Here, we are presenting a case of 23 years old male presenting with a recurrent swelling in right scapular region. It was diagnosed as ASPS on the basis of radiology, histomorphology and immunohistochemistry.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129238023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It presents with various clinical features, hence most of the times it is difficult to make diagnosis on the basis of single investigation. Multiple investigations should be done simultaneously for making appropriate diagnosis. We report a rare case of a 50 years old female, diagnosed as ovarian tuberculosis, who presented with complaints of dysmenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding and low grade fever for 4-6 months. Tuberculosis should always be kept in mind as the most common cause of granulomatous lesion in endemic regions.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124749813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Primary goal of Quality Control is transfusion of safe quality of blood components to give optimal benefit to patients. The aim of study was to ensure supply of safe and efficient blood component to patients.Quality control of blood components prepared between December 2019 to November 2021 were included in our study. Monthly Quality control (QC) of the blood components were done as per the national guideline, 1% of total components prepared or minimum 4 units. Packed red cell units were evaluated for haematocrit, random donor platelet concentrates for yield and fresh frozen plasma (FFP) and cryoprecipitate were evaluated for volume, factor VIII and fibrinogen concentrations.A total of 1302 units were tested for IQC. The mean hematocrit of RBC was 58.8%. In PLT, mean yield was 6.9 × 10/cu mm. Mean factor VIII and fibrinogen levels were found to be 377 IU/bag and 851.60 mg/bag in FFP respectively. Mean factor VIII and fibrinogen levels were found to be 311.81 IU/bag and 1694.4 mg/bag in cryoprecipitate respectively.In the present era, Quality Control is very important step in maintaining quality of blood components and the quality objectives of the blood centre, so that we ensure most efficient blood transfusion to patient. The IQC of blood components at our blood centre is in overall compliance and met recommended national standards. Implementation of standard operating procedures, accomplishment of standard guidelines, proper documentation with regular audit and staff competencies can improve the quality performance of the transfusion services.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125168529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it is a benign condition, its radiological picture and intra operative findings mimic gall bladder carcinoma- leading to misdiagnosis in most cases. We report a case of XGC in a middle-aged lady who presented with a lump in right hypochondrium. Computed Tomography (CT) scans of the abdomen was inconclusive for her. A CT-guided Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) was obtained, where findings were suggestive of XGC which was finally confirmed on histopathological examination of the cholecystectomy specimen. The characteristic cytologic features of XGC on FNAC in this case helped differentiate it from malignancy, thereby sparing the patient a morbid radical surgery. Preoperative FNAC and intraoperative frozen section are valuable tools for differential diagnosis of XGC and help guide the surgeon towards a correct surgical approach.","PeriodicalId":364340,"journal":{"name":"IP Journal of Diagnostic Pathology and Oncology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126342645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although in transit metastasis has been commonly described in malignant melanoma, there are rare cases of squamous cell carcinomas, presenting with the same. It is an uncommon form of metastasis through lymphatics and is found in immunocompromised individuals.
