The questions concerned the lighting technology used, experience from changing lighting systems, plans, problems, apprehensions and expectations. The replies showed that the transition to LED has been much faster in museums than in theaters and 35% of the theatres do not plan for a transition to LED. Reasons given are economy, light quality, and dimming functionality. Lighting professionals are generally sceptical in exchanging halogen lights. The artistic expression in lighting design goes beyond the specifications and what is promised in the data sheet. To facilitate a smoother transition to modern lighting technologies, the quality of the white light and proper function of the luminaires must be ensured and the communication between the manufacturers, retailers, lighting professionals and other artistic functions must be improved.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123560773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing knowledge on the interaction between daylighting and seating preferences is limited. This study aims to understand what type of spaces are in more demand and the relationship between seat occupancy and daylight availability. Occupancy data of the UCL Bartlett library acquired from motion sensors located underneath each desk was used to assess occupancy, which was then compared to characteristics of space, including daylight availability. The study revealed that although daylight has a considerable impact on students’ seat selection, the seating preference of the students cannot be explained by daylight alone. The seats with a good combination of daylight, outdoor view and privacy are in more demand compared to seats that provide only a high level of daylight. Future research should involve individual perception in addition to occupancy monitoring data, considering daylight conditions together with other components such as privacy, outdoor views, and quietness.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123892097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is still controversial how well gloss constancy works under different light distributions. In this paper, we conducted three experiments of different light distributions to investigate whether the stable discrimination and gloss constancy of paper occurred with different glossiness levels at the different light source distances and illuminances. The results suggest instability of paper discrimination and gloss perception when both light source distance and illuminance change. Then we tested two additional conditions. One is setting the distance the same and manipulating the illumination. The other is setting the illuminance constant and manipulating the distance, respectively. We further verify that illuminance and specular reflection can affect material and gloss perception, regardless of the width of the highlight region changed by light source distance.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121020096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper analyses the feasibility to estimate the Daylight Glare Probability (DGP) at the user-level based on machine-learning techniques, sun position and a downward-pointing camera sensor mounted at the ceiling of a simulated office environment. Three different office cases have been considered: an empty room, an empty room with venetian blinds and a furnished room without venetian blinds. The influence of the sun direction has been considered as a parameter to predict the observer DGP. Subsequently, the best parameters have been selected to build a black box model using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Results show that, by using the DGP of the ceiling camera and the sun position, it is possible to accurately predict the DGP for an observer’s POV.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129832468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energy energy performance of road lighting is conveniently described by the pair of normative numerical indicators PDI and AECI established in European standards. This paper aims to present typical values of the AECI (Annual Energy Consumption Indicator) for different combinations of road arrangements, road widths, lighting classes and light source technologies to illustrate what benchmarks can be expected using this assessment system. Essential part of this paper is focusing on assessment of the performance for traffic intensity and traffic detection based lighting adaptation.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128559942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the radiation transfer between the transmitter and emitter shall be well defined in all circumstances. An important aspect herein is the determination of the Limiting Photometric Distance (LPD), which characterises the transition between near-field and far-field description of the light source. The LPD allows to determine whether simplified equations can be used in the V-VLC channel model. A first step towards this goal is the analysis of a simple, narrow beam, disk-source with uniform luminance. On-axis, analytical solutions exist. Off-axis, however, no closed loop solutions exist. Therefore, a numerical approach is used, which is validated against on-axis measurements and then expanded to off-axis scenarios. This allows to compute the on- and off-axis LPD of the light source, an important step towards a more accurate description of complex systems for VLC.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125901543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article describes a new experiment to accumulate the data under HDR (high dynamic range) conditions. The data were then used to test the performance of different colour appearance scales such as CIELAB and CAM16-UCS plus the recent extension by Berns’ Vab*, Dab*. The results showed those Berns’ scales gave reasonable performance. However, there was no scale capable of predicting colour appearance data covering a wide dynamic range. New scales were developed based on the absolute scales of brightness and colourfulness of CAM16-UCS and gave accurate prediction to the data.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127537108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An own method of preparation led to the obtaining of a photocatalytic pigment based on copper-doped titanium dioxide to move the activation spectrum to the visible range. The preparation method was designed so as to allow transposition into industrial production. The demonstration and measurement of the photocatalytic effect for certification as an industrial product was done based on an adapted method, starting from two existing standards. A washable paint containing the photocatalytic pigment was tested \"in situ\", the results demonstrating the reduction of microbial load. The paper is based on current knowledge about light-activated antimicrobiological agents (LAAs) in an attempt to further the study of visible spectrum radiation, which in combination with a series of photosensitizers excited by this radiation, have the role of generating photocatalytic reactions with disinfection effect.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128298904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To quantify the amount of stray light from a typical large greenhouse the authors have modelled several lighting installations based on a range of generic horticultural light sources. The impact of the stray light is dependent on the spectral power distribution of the sources employed, the intensity and distribution. Current standards for obtrusive light from outdoor work places do not seem to be suitable when applied to greenhouses.","PeriodicalId":363368,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Conference CIE 2021","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131717666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
