Data were collected from villages in Eskişehir locality in June-September 2013 by face-to-face interview method, after which the interview data were transcribed. In these texts, palate n (/ŋ/), wheezing ha (/x/) and open e (/ä/) in vocal tones were detected. According to the results; /ŋ/ vocal tone and /x/ vocal tone show global positive spatial correlation, /ä/ vocal tone is distributed randomly over the whole region. /ŋ/ vocal tone is spoken by Manavs, Yoruks and Turkmens which has also been proven by statistical methods. The spoken of /x/ vocal tone is significant for Yoruks and Turkmens. Turkmens use the /x/ vocal tone more than Yoruks. /ä/ vocal tone is more spoken by Balkan immigrants. This study is one of the first studies quantitative research method was used to understand the relationship with characteristic vocal tones and local constituents. This study provides a new quantitative research methods perspective to researchers studying on the issue of dialect features, dialectology","PeriodicalId":36226,"journal":{"name":"BELLETEN Yearbook of Turkic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69469906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In some Byzantine sources, the name, in forms of Atman, Ataman, Atuman; the recording of the Arab geographer al-Umari as Tuman / Taman in his work has led to quite different interpretations. Some modern Ottoman historians questioned the ethnic origin of the founder and entered into deep discussions. As a matter of fact, the name recorded as Osman in all Turkish sources with all Ottoman chronicles, especially the way of writing in Byzantine sources, is completely related to the features of colloquial Arabic. The difference in the phraseology and spelling of other words was also seen in the name Osman; which was spoken and even written as Atman, Itman or Utman in colloquial Arabic, in the region where the Byzantine-Arab theme was intense, it seems also to have passed to the Byzantine sources as Atman in the form of spoken and even written in this field.","PeriodicalId":36226,"journal":{"name":"BELLETEN Yearbook of Turkic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69469876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially “Index-Glossary” section is prepared and morphologically examined in a way encompassing all the words taking place in this poetry, and with the aim of depicting the historical course of development of Turkish lexicons in terms of phonetics, examples to these words from Old Turkish and Middle Turkish are given. Besides, in the “Introduction” section of the study, variations in phonetics, morphology and vocabulary among copies reflecting language properties of Eastern Turkish (commonly known as Chagatai Turkish) are given in a list. By using these data, some deductions are made on the archaicity of the copies. Following the assessments, it is concluded that copy B is showing archaic features; copy A is showing contemporary features and copy C stands closer to copy A between two copies.","PeriodicalId":36226,"journal":{"name":"BELLETEN Yearbook of Turkic Studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49215420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
