The current and voltage (I-V) curve shows a single peak point due to its non-linear relationship at uniform irradiance conditions. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller is required for operating the solar photovoltaic system at its maximum power capability. Among many developed algorithms, perturb and observe (P&O) is renowned for its flexibility and simple execution in low-cost devices. On the contrary, it has a downside during operation at partial shading condition (PSC). Therefore, to overcome the issue of PSCs, modified P&O controllers is proposed in the literature. Here, the conventional P&O algorithm is compared to three modified P&O algorithms where modified algorithms can improve the performance of various features. The simulation study has been performed for all the proposed controllers under the same test conditions.","PeriodicalId":361856,"journal":{"name":"2021 9th International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131235925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EAHX is designed throughout a parametric study in the context of the soil properties and the hot semi-arid climate of Benguerir, considering two of its significant parameters which are the pipe length and the burying depth. More than 120 combinations of these parameters are studied by carrying out more than 120 dynamic simulations using the well-validated TYPE 460 of TRNSYS software. The identification of the best combinations of the EAHX parameters is based on the maximum and the minimum EAHX exit air temperature for cooling and heating purpose respectively. Considering, the land availability around the house, it was found that the best EAHX parameters combination is constituted of 8 pipes of 51 m length and 0.15 m inner diameter buried at a depth of 4.5 m, operated at 3 m.s-1 air velocity. This system allows for 36% of the house's annual cooling load based on a set temperature of 26°C, while the system is not interesting for air heating.","PeriodicalId":361856,"journal":{"name":"2021 9th International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124404131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerous studies have been conducted to optimize the production of methane-rich biogas, most of these studies have been carried out with anaerobic digestion systems operating under conditions of total darkness. Therefore, little is known about the effect of light on anaerobic digestion processes. The present work aims to study the photosynthesis-assisted anaerobic digestion of municipal solid waste with an average light intensity of 500 lux, provided by natural and artificial light continuously. The effect of light on biogas production and composition was studied. The results showed for the lighted digester, a low biogas production as well as a low methane content of about 0.11 l/d and 51 %, respectively, which represents a reduction of 40% in biogas and a 21.5 % in methane, compared to the unlighted digester.","PeriodicalId":361856,"journal":{"name":"2021 9th International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"1993 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131048236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of this paper is to design a grid- connected photovoltaic (PV) solar carport system able to supply electricity to electric cars. Sizing the grid-tied PV solar carport system is to decide the number and type of solar panels, the inverter size, in addition to the AC control panels and the electricity meters. For a car parking area of 165 m2, 102 solar panels are installed with first-year energy production of 42150 KWh which declines yearly by a rate of 0.5%. This is analyzed using the software System Advisor Model (SAM). The daily energy demand is 65 KWh, for which a central inverter of 83KW, a bidirectional power meter, and an AC control panel operating on 120V/240V are installed. In addition to that, the copper wires linking the equipment of the PV system are sized. The capital investment cost of the system is 518962.22 MAD, the life cycle cost (LCC) is 902470.07 MAD, the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) is 1.23 MAD/KWh and the estimated payback period is 7.5 years. This solar carport PV system mitigates CO2 emissions by an amount of 657347 Kg during the lifetime of the PV array. The results of the developed design can further be used in other applications for solar PV system sizing.","PeriodicalId":361856,"journal":{"name":"2021 9th International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134459080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carbonate electrolytes are widely used in batteries but they exhibit low thermal stability with high flammability, and carry out secondary reactions with the electrodes which decrease battery performance. Replacing the carbonate solvents with ionic liquids (ILs) is considered as a promising strategy to improve the thermal and electrochemical stability of batteries. In this study we report N<inf>a3</inf>V<inf>2</inf>(PO<inf>4</inf>)<inf>3</inf>@C electrochemical performance in an hybrid electrolyte based on 0.5 mol/l of sodium bis((trifluoromethyl) sulfonyl) imide, 90wt.% of propylene carbonate (PC), and 10wt.% 1-hexylpyridinium hexafluorophosphate ([C<inf>6</inf>Pyr][PF<inf>6</inf>]) ILs.
