In general, the terms of repair and maintenance of the ship are used together and involve the docking action of the ship for carrying out a standard maintenance routine, according to the requirements of the classification societies under whose supervision vessels are operated, at specified periods. Docking refers to the complex process of repair and maintenance of ships (on time and within the limits of the estimated budget based on the technical specifications of works) while stationed in the shipyard. The certification of the works is carried out, through concerted actions, both by the shipyard, as a contractor, as well as the owner / technical manager of the vessel, as beneficiary. The paper aims to emphasize some aspects of this process with a high degree of complexity, by schematizing, originally, the processes carried out.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135860670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The selection of engineering science courses that make up most of these programs of study is consistently preparing graduates for the technical aspects of their field of study. As employers tend to hire graduates who do not require additional training, the eligibility of job candidates on the labour market is also strongly reliant on the range of soft skills attained such as foreign language competence, communication skills, appropriate mindset in teamwork, stress management, etc. Most universities throughout the world feature soft skill courses in their curricula, which are primarily targeted at building professional qualities. In the marine industry, the STCW convention’s Chapter III/I code specifies standards for a marine engineer’s operating competence. To be deemed competent, officers in command of an engineer’s watch in a manned engine room or a designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine room must be qualified to “use English in written and oral form”. Therefore, instructors should focus on teaching specific terminology and communication skills as required by IMO standards and the international shipping industry in order to prepare high-quality seafarers in terms of maritime English. This paper aims to identify a method of incorporating communication skills and language proficiency into the engineering curriculum with a focus on Maritime English in MET.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135860675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The neologisms borrowed from French seem to have a privileged status, being dominant in the second half of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The contact between the two Romance languages contributed not only to the formation of the modern Romanian language, but also to the innovation of specialized languages. French was the language of diplomacy and international trade several centuries prior to the standardization of English as the international maritime language. As a result, many terms of French origin have entered the Romanian maritime vocabulary since the eighteenth century and continue to show strength today, in spite of the English influence. In this paper, we will demonstrate how linguistic contact has influenced the development of Romanian maritime terminology, focusing on the external means of vocabulary enrichment, namely the loan and the calque.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135860674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study of load transfers that occur at the interface, as well as the adhesion between the two components, is influenced by the treatment of the reinforcing fibers or filler particles.. These will have a strong negative impact during operation. Since these materials are created to serve well-defined purposes, it is necessary that their structure be stable over time or present certain properties specific to the requirements, for which the application of thermal treatments is imposed. The synthesis of various studies from the specialized literature emphasizes that the purpose of these treatments is to induce specific magnetic properties.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135860677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organizations must manage knowledge internally (through knowledge risks) and externally (through reputational risks). We define knowledge risks as internal human, technological, and organizational factors, and reputational risks as the effects of knowledge risks and external perils to reputation, credibility, financial status, and future success. An oversight of either risk type can cause significant damage to an organization. This literature review was a means to analyze, categorize, and offer best practices for mitigating risks within a knowledge management system.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"14 1","pages":"44 - 54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80252388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another relevant topic is whether artificial intelligence will replace human commanders in the army. While AI can optimize processes and perform tasks in dangerous situations, the human factor remains crucial for soldiers’ effectiveness. Factors such as leadership, morality, initiative, creativity and endurance are essential for success and the motivation of commanders is responsibility for their soldiers. Additionally, the commander’s influence on organizational culture makes them irreplaceable by AI in the military","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"12 1","pages":"79 - 87"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82669288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The local population decided, through the actions carried out from the very first moment of the invasion, to oppose the Russian occupation and was categorized as an extension of the armed forces and a central pillar of the Ukrainian resistance. The paper analyzes the pressures to which the civilians in Ukraine were subjected during the first year of the conflict, such as: the bombing of residential areas, energy blackmail, torture, killings, rapes, robberies or the deportation of children from the occupied areas. After a year of war, the resilience of the population continues to fuel the morale of frontline troops, and a future peace agreement cannot be concluded without holding those guilty of war crimes or crimes against humanity accountable.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"348 1","pages":"1 - 13"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75133374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article addresses the need to improve creative invention and innovation processes in the public and private sectors, highlighting the importance of digital transformation in the economic, social, technological and managerial fields. In this context, it is noted that digital transformation efforts focus mainly on large-scale changes to processes, systems, and operating models, while digital innovation is applied on a smaller scale and over a shorter period of time. One of the key elements of innovation is that it benefits from the use of artificial intelligence as the hardware and software systems it works with become more powerful. The review has shown that, in addition to the positive effects of the use of AI in different areas of activity, there are many concerns about the creation of a superintelligence that could replace the human factor or limit its access to different areas of activity. Important aspects of technological innovation based on AI were addressed and clarifications were made on the interaction between technology and AI. The article also highlights aspects related to the need to adopt and implement artificial intelligence and technologies based on it at the level of Romanian society, as a prerequisite and necessity on the evolutionary path to survive in a global market based on supply and demand.","PeriodicalId":36159,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Bulletin of Naval Academy","volume":"226 1","pages":"96 - 108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75907044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
