The validity of thus calculated electromagnetic parameters has been discussed by many authors. The first step of our study is to ensure that there is no anomaly due to numerical ambiguities in the inversion procedure. To this end, three different algorithms will be developed. The second step is to show the suitability of these inversion procedure to analyze various periodic media. Metamaterials having different electromagnetic responses will be treated. When the structure is resonant, peculiar frequency variation of the effective parameters is observed. Finally, the Split-Ring Resonator - SRR (main constituent of negative refractive index metamaterial) will be analyzed and an analogy between the results obtained for other resonant inclusions will be made.","PeriodicalId":360668,"journal":{"name":"11th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics [ANTEM 2005]","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126285119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Slots reduce antenna resonant frequency and are used for antenna miniaturization. However, as the antenna size is reduced, the feeding becomes more difficult, and input impedance becomes more sensitive to the feed location. Bilotti, A. Alù, L. Vegni, PIER 47, 1 (2004)] to the case of spherical and spheroidal geometries. Even though the complexity of the problem is not reduced after this rigorous mapping, a generalization of the Method of Lines (MoL) numerical algorithm can then be applied successfully. Starting from the generalized transmission-line equations that relate the transverse electromagnetic field components in a generic linear material embedded in a given orthogonal non-planar reference system, it is possible in fact to apply a 2-D discretization on the transverse plane, leading to a system of coupled differential equations for the line samples of the field. The theory and some numerical results are presented and discussed, showing the capabilities of this technique in terms of efficiency and accuracy, and underlining how a wise employment of non-conventional media may lead to interesting improvements of the radiating features of common microwave conformal antennas.","PeriodicalId":360668,"journal":{"name":"11th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics [ANTEM 2005]","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122708386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main drawback of such a fully planar design is the degradation of the omni-directionality beyond the first octave. The addition of simple orthogonal elements onto the monopole offers a very simple way to significantly reduce this effect. The improvements have been evaluated with specific UWB characterization tools.","PeriodicalId":360668,"journal":{"name":"11th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics [ANTEM 2005]","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123002325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hybrid method resorts to a spherical wave expansion to link the FDTD code to the ABT code, i.e. spherical harmonics are used to provide ABT with a suitable description of the source modelled with FDTD. This approach exploits the ability of FDTD to treat detailed models of the antenna and its nearby structures while ABT is able to perform the analysis of the satellite environment.","PeriodicalId":360668,"journal":{"name":"11th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics [ANTEM 2005]","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131391954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
