The designed briquettes are light-weighted and characterized by a flameless combustion that do not emit toxic substances during burning. These new briquettes were shaped from amorphous carbon obtained by carbonization of rice husks that was carried out in an inert atmosphere (N 2 /Ar) at the temperature 450 °C, followed by desilication using caustic soda for 2 hours and demineralization using nitric acid for 2 hours. To the thus obtained raw material, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) used as biobinder was added to form the briquettes and bind the carbon-based materials. In order to obtain briquettes of suitable hardness for all purposes ( ca. 30 MPa of briquette strength), 20% of biobinder was necessary. Oxygenating reagents (NaNO 3 and NH 4 NO 3 ) were also added to ensure high performant briquette flameless combustion. Based on the fact that these briquettes are mainly carbon-based materials with the containing 70-90% and therefore are characterized with a rather light overall weight during 30-38 g.","PeriodicalId":36059,"journal":{"name":"Engineered Science","volume":"129 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86378919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to develop a low-cost, green and effective demulsifier, fly ash taken from the local power plant was applied to water-in-oil emulsions of various concentrations and conditions. A thorough analysis of crude oil composition and ash sample structure was carried out. Emulsion separation kinetics demonstrated that the optimal temperature for the crude oil emulsions was 60 °C, but the demulsification efficiency was not satisfactory. To improve separation efficiency Tween 20 was applied to the emulsions in combination with grinded coal fly ash. This resulted in a higher demulsification efficiency (100% for some emulsions) and was justified by the microphotographs before and after demulsification. The optimal conditions found were as follows: 60 °C, Tween 20 (1600 ppm), and grinded coal fly ash (1 wt %). Finally, the demulsification process was investigated with FT-IR analysis to justify the proposed mechanism.","PeriodicalId":36059,"journal":{"name":"Engineered Science","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135355456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cotrina-Aliaga, Manuel Antonio Cardoza Sernaqué, Christian Paolo Martel Carranza, Dhiraj Kapila","doi":"10.30919/es950","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30919/es950","url":null,"abstract":"Steganography is a technique of concealing secret information within an innocuous-looking carrier signal. Speech steganography has become increasingly important in a variety of applications, including military, satellite, and mobile communications. However, conventional methods have failed to meet the maximum-security requirements, resulting in reduced robustness and imperceptibility performance. In this paper, a novel speech steganography mechanism is proposed to address these issues by using shift invariant continuous wavelet transform (SI-CWT) for data hiding. The message data is hidden in the low-level speech bands using pseudo noise sequences, resulting in a steganography output speech signal. To recover the original speech and message signal, a zero-crossing rate (ZCR)-based speech activity and message detection (SAMD) mechanism is applied on the receiver side. The proposed steganography system is evaluated using various performance metrics, including robustness, imperceptibility, and security. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system outperforms conventional methods in terms of these metrics, indicating that it is a promising solution for secure speech communication. Additionally, potential limitations and weaknesses of the proposed system are discussed, highlighting the need for further research in this area. Overall, this novel speech steganography mechanism has significant potential for enhancing the security and reliability of speech communication in various applications.","PeriodicalId":36059,"journal":{"name":"Engineered Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89349983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
